Always loved visiting Amsterdam and am planning another trip. Travel is not all about sightseeing and eating strange food. It is also about meeting people and understanding how they have survived, lived their lives and built their city. We could all learn from this video and not just what to see/do in Amsterdam.

I hope my friend sees this video. Rick Steves show on public broadcast in USA, are always informs but more specifically points us towards the heart of each place he visits. Why travel if you just want elsewhere to be just like our own homes. Thank you, Rick.

You made some great points on what the US could (and should!) learn from the Dutch, but I fear you are preaching to the converted. The millions in the US who need to hear this, likely aren't travellers, because there is nothing like travel for opening your mind.

I ride my kids on a long tail cargo bike in the US but they HATED biking in Amsterdam. They did not like the bakfiets at all.

You should stop watching his show then, he's always been vocal about what's going on in other countries politically. It's eve in his books. If that bugs you, then he's not for you and just move on.
