I'm happy you mentioned Arkanoid. It's a simple to play game that's not on the 64 maxi carousel. Never mind, I can make a new firmware with some of the games you've reminded us that are great or underated. 4 super tough games on all 3 machines, Speccy, 64 and CPC, are Exolon, Spiky Harold, Cauldron 2 and Frostbyte. They are'hair-pullingly-out' annoying.😊

Bruce Lee on the Amstrad was blocky as hell, even worse than the C64/Atari versions. The Speccy version played faster than all the others, but I liked Atari/C64 versions (they were near identical) best. Head Over Heels on the Amstrad was awesome and the best 8-bit version.

3:00 FEUD - I spent my of today hacking this game, I managed to get invincibility but so did my nemesis :)))) Tomorrow I'll do it right. Exolon clearly isn't perfect, ZX version is much better. Too bad you neglected "Rogue Trooper" it just shines on Amstrad CPC leaving ZX and C64 versions far behind. Thanatos is also the best on CPC. Tau Ceti is amazing and would be the best if it were not for its sluggishness on the stock CPC, good thing we have emulators that allow us set 125% speed (or more).
@ClassicReplay

I think Exolon is brilliant and just as good if not better than on the ZX Spectrum. Rogue Trooper, just found it boring tbh 😴 Thanatos is better on the Speccy, but still good on the CPC. Despite its lack of popularity compared with the commodore 64 the Amstrad is surprisingly a great machine whose games are comparable to the commodore - that chase hq is undoubtebly better than the commie and ik+ and emlyn hughes are pretty much the same. Its a wonder why this machine didn't get the notoriety it deserved when compared to the 64 (perhaps it was significantly more expensive to the 64) with its much superior color pallet.
@ClassicReplay
@ClassicReplay 7 месяцев назад
It’s no surprise to me and the 3 million others that owned one. I’ve said for years that IK+ on the CPC plays a mean fighting game and ChaseHQ leads the pack. Emlyn Hughes is a bit slower, but that’s because it shares Speccy code and mode 0 graphics. It worked out to be more affordable when you consider you needed a tv for the C64. I think the C64 was ultimately the better games machine, but the Amstrad was the best all rounder.

@ClassicReplay
@ClassicReplay 6 месяцев назад
Nebulus is a very good game, frustrating sometimes getting knocked down, but I recall having fun with it. I never could complete it, did you? I might have to go back to it. Prohibition I was never a fan, I preferred operation Wolf and other such games. But I did later play it on the Amiga and enjoyed it a bit more. So I reckon if I’d have stuck with it things might have been different. ERE I think is French, so I probably missed out on most of those games if not in English. Very sad to this day that Iron Lord was never translated to English

First video of yours I've seen (I think so anyway) and really enjoyed this. I was a Spectrum kid, also had a C64 a little later on but it's way too easy to overlook the Amstrad versions of so many games, which in many instances were better or the best you could get. It's a shame there were a lot of lazy Spectrum ports (which often, by default, ran more badly) but when the developers put in the effort on the CPC it so often paid off. Subbed =)

Hello, thanks for your video. I remember Amstrad CPC 464. I used to play it when I was a kid. It was a gift from my parents' friend in the 1990s. The montior was green instead of colours. Sadly it went banjaxed years ago and it went to the scrapyard in summer 2014. I missed playing Amstrad CPC and I would never forget it. Anyway some Amstrad CPC games I've only played are Blagger, Paperboy, Sultan's Maze. Oh Mummy, Roland on the Ropes, Dizzy Fast Food and The Galactica Plague, one of the games featuring hoodies as enemies (sorry I forget its name) and Animal Vegetable Mineral. It was great at doing colours, and there were some really good games. I don't think it was originally thought of as a gaming computer, no hardware sprites, and bad scrolling. But you are correct, my biggest beef with the Amstrad is the soundchip. Yes it can be forced to make Sid emulation, but it comes at a cost. The soundchip itself simply can't do all the waveforms the Sid is able to. However check out some of the newest Amstrad demos, they are amazing, yes even compared to the c64, except the sound of course. A better non Sid soundchip would be the Pokey in Atari, it really has character, and sounds in some aspects just as good as the Sid.

I have not been able to complete the game, I was not sure what the goal was. I still have the melody in my head. Another one was called "Collapse" I think, it was a platform where you (looked like a bear on the cover) needed to collect some items from the screen. If anyone can identify these games based on my crude description, that would be great!

My Dad would take me and my brother to Toys R Us back in the late 80's. We always got to pick a budget game each. One time he picked a random game we'd never heard of, turned out to be Feud. No instructions, nothing. And we had no idea what we were doing. Years later perhaps 1990, I decided to load it up again and got hooked! Finished it eventually! Super challenging game but, once you've played it so much you know where every single ingredient is by heart, it's do-able. Feud is up there with Barbarian, Renegade, Croco-Magneto, Saracen, Jet Set Willy 2, Roland In Time, Anarchy, Terminus, Pyjamarama, Deathstalker etc. Definitely one of the best CPC games of all time. I prefer the original Dizzy over it's sequels. Something about it was just really simple and appealing yet really challenging game!

Not Green beret, Jet set willy, After the war, Satan, Army moves and, of course, Navy moves? Really?? Why you always forget about Spanish software?
@ClassicReplay
@ClassicReplay Месяц назад
I haven’t, I always bang on about Spanish software, especially La Abadía del Crimen🤷🏻‍♂️ Satan looks good but is ultimately a bit rubbish, too short and a bit blocky on the second stage. Navy Moves is average at best and most find it way too difficult. I will never choose graphics (no matter how lovely) over gameplay. What’s your top 10 Spanish games and we can discuss

My first computer was a CPC 464 and the first game I ever played on it was Harrier Attack. Man I loved that game. I loved a lot (if not all tbh!) of the games on your list! This was a properly enjoyable walk down memory lane! I actually have a brand new in box CPC 464 upstairs (no monitor sadly), just for the nostalgia lol Still fire up some of these games in an emulator now though... in fact... I know what I'm doing tonight!

Joe Blade is one of my favourite games. In the Speccy community it’s fondly remembered. On the Amstrad there’s hardly any love for it. Graphic whores if you ask me 😉 a brilliant game back in the day when you consider the price, music and challenge.

Arkanoid has horrible slow down. Rick Dangerous 2 is excellent though, very close to the Atari ST version.
@ClassicReplay
@ClassicReplay 4 месяца назад
All 8bit versions had their problems, but the Amstrad came out as strong if not better. Plus you have to remember that these machines were only 8bit. Rick Dangerous 2 shows the art of the possible and why the Amstrad CPC is considered the best 8bit. It could really sing in the right hands. True of all 8bits, but can't match the vibrant colour pallet of the Amstrad.

@ClassicReplay

Agreed! But you could probably name at least another fifty. I wasn’t a fan personally of those two games though. I felt TLL played smoother and faster on the ZX Spectrum and felt a tiny bit clunkier on controls for the CPC. For Sorcery, it always peeved me off that the sprites clashed, ruined the illusion for me. But on the whole, very good games.

Correction, Commando on Amstrad is not the best version, the C64 is by far, and its even had a stronger rewrite which is even better with all the arcade levels. Please review it and play it. The Amstrad version is ok but it's not a patch on the C64

Ah man, this is a great list. I played many of them for houuuuurs. Barbarian, Dizzy, Gauntlet (played in co-op with my sister, when we got to the end of the tape we just rewound it and pressed play),, Way Of The Exploding Fist (shame I never played WotEF 2 on anything other than the C64), Oh Mummy... ...spent so much time playing Bombjack too. and Spy vs Spy. And a type-in knockoff of Boulderdash called Splatch! So many memories playing these. 42 years up to my neck in playing and writing games; zero regrets.

Mission accomplished, core memory dump ☺️ my sister was amazing at video games, plus my cousin she was amazing at Space Invaders. I think they have both grown out of gaming now, but loved those days of watching them play and reach levels I’d never seen before. In fact I miss visiting the arcade and watching and learning from people and the best strategies. This made me a better gamer and I realised there was techniques you needed to learn, but sometimes your own style could be successful. All those games you mentioned also featured in my early life as well. Great times.

Great List! Harrier Attack and Roland on the Ropes kept me going for many hours.... Until I got some Proper Games that is... And Gauntlet, LOVED IT! ELITE was a game that I have to be honest, I never expected to ever like... But a Friend introduced me, I liked what I saw... And after I got used to teh controls... And switched from trying to play with Joystick and instead playing by keyboard... I literally lost almost 2-3 years of my life simply playing ELITE!!!! I even had ELITE for the Atari ST... That how much I loved it! Truly a great list, Even your honourable mentions!

BUY A MINING LASER... If you tap your fire key instead of hold it, It fires as fast as a Pulse Laser but will wipe out a Thargoid in only 4-5 shots!!! The WEAKEST Weapon in the game is more powerful than the Expensive Military Laser's...
