It would be good if hardware manufacturers of kit like this could put the edge socket on a ribbon cable, rather than directly on the hardware (as Romantic Robot did with their Multiface II). That would solve your problem of not being able to see the screen as well as save on the wear on the connector on the CPC caused by pressing the top buttons.

My friend who died in 2000 was the inventor of the Amstrad CPC ramdrive for Amstrad funny enough he was Polish - he had a CPC 464 with 640K and could use and access any form of disk drive 3", 3 1/2 ect and formats I had an Einstein and he could write files directly to any system's disk format.. he was ahead of his time - selecting the files ... the de-bounce coding stops the keys from being too sensitive :D --- PCW 8256/8512/9512 :D loved programming them back in the day! my first database for the YMCA was written on a PCW 8512!!

Excellent video sir, as I got mine early I never got to talk about the upgrades. Also, some demos to struggle to load for some reason.
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 6 лет назад
Thanks =D Out of interest, can you remember which demos might not work - I will give them a go, because I am wondering if now the disks are working as native .dsk format, maybe they will work?!?

It's really cool how old systems are supported by modern storage devices like this one!

Nice piece of kit for the CPC, hopefully the bugs in the firmware get ironed out.
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 6 лет назад
Yeah =D The unit has worked with everything I've thrown at it, it's just annoying not being able to boot the file manager on the CPC =/

I love Zaxon's boards. For the Amstrad I've got a "CPC 6128 USB Lite" that connects at the rear port like yours but without screen and works great, and I've got also a floppy drive replacement with HxC software and Led screen (so a Gotek but with the face 3D printed to fit and also has floppy drive sound). BTW I don't need/use this last, you if you want it I've got an Amstrad PC board that needs to be repaired...
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 6 лет назад
Yeah, they are very nice! I am hoping as he creates his website he might find some time to document some of the features and things. For example, on this board there are a load of jumpers - who knows what they are for lol. Floppy drive sound is a nice touch - my HxC in the ST provides that too. It's a shame this board doesn't seem to support it. Maybe it does, but needs a mod to add a speaker - no idea. Thanks =D

Yeah those displays. I use them for the odd Arduino project, and they are a bit shitty. This looks to have some form of IC2 conversion board on the back of the display to make it compatible with the boards output. It may be possible to get a better display if you looked into it?

It’s a cool bit of kit, really temp for my 464 however looks like a few bugs still need working out first
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 6 лет назад
Yeah, a few bugs to iron out for sure. Although I would say I've found no compatibility issues loading stuff yet.

Personally I'm not a big fan of those small displays connected to pcbs. As with the 1541Ultimate for the c64, I'm not sure they're actually necessary. Looks like a well built piece of hardware and useful for the Amstrad. On another note Chris, does the traffic ever let up where you live? It's usually pretty busy when you're recording.
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 6 лет назад
Yeah, I agree its better when there's no annoying LED screen to use lol. No, traffic never lets up - drives me nuts! Will move eventually!

Probably archive.org initially - Get Amstrad CPC [TOSEC], and Amstrad CPC (GoodCPC v2.02). Also many games can be found on cpcrulez.fr/games.htm#D

@@GadgetUK164 thanks I'll try them, I've been using cpcrulez but I can't get b.a.t , north and south plus others to run from there. Thanks again

I read the firmware upgrade issues, and choose not to upgrade as I like the bootee and I have my hxc convertor setup to convert all my dsk quickly. I wonder how you would roll back. To avoid issues I stick with using converted hfe files. Nice built in memory upgrade in this version thought, perfect if you can't get hold of the d'troniks module
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 6 лет назад
Yeah, I wonder how to downgrade (same way as upgrade I think), but I have read that some people did revert back to prior version with issue. I need to dig into things on the forums to ask around I think. Thanks for pointing me towards this - this has opened up all the 128K stuff for me =D

No pen/pencil to tap this time... sorta miss it already lol (yes dripping with sarcasm) but I hope you get it working properly. should find some way to upgrade it to a 4line display might help
@retrogamer33
@retrogamer33 5 лет назад
Only thing I've struggled with is the Gotek in the Atari ST. The Seller said "Oh yeah it works with the ST without any issue".......Bullshit!, I had to change the software, the jumpers and disk images to get it to work after almost tearing my hair out.

What are the perfect tape images. Id rather have it load like it was intended. What file extension are they in
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 6 лет назад
I think (and I could be wrong) - .cdt for tapes. .dsk for disks.

Interesting video, Dont think i'll be getting one purly cos I've got a 6128 and I'm going to get a goteck drive to replace my current external 3.5 disk drive. But if i only had a 464 I'd definetely consider getting one. Also reminds me I've an origional DDI1 and drive in storage somewhere that i must get out and get going.

Thanks mate =D I filmed this 3 weeks ago btw, else I would have mentioned your PCW video at the point I was talking about the NEC 765. It was already ready to upload, just needed processing.
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 6 лет назад
And btw - what dimensions are that DivMMC board you were creating? I was contemplating building something to fit above the RCA sockets (in that Spectrum +2A/2B part 2 vid just uploaded). If it uses CF or SD the slot would fit nicely on the back there.
@Jayoldstuff1
@Jayoldstuff1 6 лет назад
the PCB is small 6cm by 8cm aprox and fits ontop of the CPU socket, it has a standard SD card slot on it. what you can do is add a second SD card slot on a ribbon cable. that you could attach to the back of your spectrum.
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 6 лет назад
That sounds awesome! Will wait to see how you get on with your video =D

The HxC is in the side where the FDD normally goes. The grey box on top of the ST is the Ultra Satan - a dual SD card dual HDD emulator for the ST.

This worked for me: My autoboot initially returned an error#31#. To boot from the screen (Autoboot) with the latest flashfloppy, you need to download the latest files from here and place in the root of your USB drive: norecess.cpcscene.net/news/hxc-floppy-emulator-manager-v35-released
@GadgetUK164
@GadgetUK164 5 лет назад
Thanks, I will give that a go!

This link us useful. Extract it first to your SD card and then overwrite the root with the files in the link I provided earlier. If the files in the link I gave you don't work for you (maybe your firmware is a couple of months older than mine as I only got my DDI3 today), try the older version also included within that same file as a subdirectory. The first file to extract to your SD card I recommend is mega.nz/#!7gUSARaQ!vCaLDNkV2_UBeSRIiQk8MvewzEEQVaeL4SfbBXV8lMc

The shitty USB stick thing is how they get em so cheap and disposable. Crap chipsets as well. And the keyring tags break off. I go for the Kingston ones all made of metal.
