Awesome demo. I like the accent, but more importantly, he demonstrates the models in an organized and useful method. I recently bought a used AMT P2 (Peavey-in-a-box) and really like it. I think these AMT pedals deserve a little more attention than they get in the U.S. (hopefully not due to the country of origin). They are extremely versatile boxes and actually fair-priced for what they do. Amazing range of sounds when he was working the EQ around the 6:00 mark!
Hi, I really like your accent, too. Well, it sounds like we Germans usually sound, when trying to speak a proper British English, I guess... ;-) I had guessed from your first sentence of the S2 Review that you're a German guy... Never mind!
Hi. It will really depend on your preferences. They are generally the same devices with a little different lead sound character. Out of those two I personally prefer S2 cause it's simply my kind of sound. I can imagine Marshall fans will probably go for Vt2
I'd just like to add that you can get both channels working with headphones if you pull out the jack slightly (assuming that it's a stereo jack you're using). This works with my O2 pedal and I can only assume that it would work with any other Legend preamp. It's either that or a mono to stereo adapter (6.3mm mono to 6.3mm stereo).
Nice job on the demo. I am very interested in this pedal, but also the D2. If you've tried both the VT2 and D2, how would you compare them? Not only amount of gain, but also the difference in lows, mids, highs, tightness (or looseness), compression (or openness). I'm trying to decide between these two, as a nice contrast to my P2. The P2 is tight, scooped and compressed, so I'm wanting something more open, and more massive in the lows, while still having fairly tight lows. Your advice is appreciated!
Hi. Thanks for your feedback! I didn't have a chance to try D2 yet. I ended up choosing S2 as my main preamp for several reasons. I used to play Soldano for like 8 years or something. I also had that VHT preamp for a long time but never used it. Mostly because I didn't feel tight enough for me in the low range. The same applies to S2 and Vt2. The first one is tighter and the second one somewhat has more grain. At the same time I just got R2 a week ago and it's very close to S2. I believe that if you're looking for something more open, Vt2 may be the right one for you. It's worth to check it anyway
Okay, thanks for the advice. The D2 and VT2 seem to have similar characteristics. The VT2 might be slightly higher gain, whereas the D2 sounds a bit larger and thicker in the lows. Although the rectifier tone isn't as appealing to me, could you contrast the VT2 and R2?
Thank you, that's helpful info. It's going to be tough deciding between VT2 and D2. Although I really like P2 for certain things, the other two have aspects that P2 doesn't have, such as stronger mids, bigger & looser lows, and more rounded highs, without the fizz. They seem good for both rhythm and lead. I'm ruling out the R2, since I'm not crazy about rectifier tone in general. It's often good for rhythms, but I don't care for the lead tone. I'll try to let you know what I think once I get whichever one I decide on---take care!
Like with all amt legend pedals the sound is really close to the original especially considering the price. And like with all amt jfet preamps there is still this jfet hiss, that gives out them every time. In this demo you are focusing on the amount of gain this pedal has, and i don't think it's right. You only need this much gain on lead parts, on rhythms you only need so much gain that sound becomes saturated enough, or your rhythm sounds will lack in attack and bite and become dirty. And most of the time this dirt sounds kinda ok with tube amps, but on this pedals more gain = even more this jfet hiss. And again it is ok on it's own, but at the same time this thing trully separates original and amt pedal. I had GP3 with 100w tube amp and i had an Ultralead - for some reason they sounded pretty different - it is special relation between preamp and amp, that solves the equation, i think) Anyway i had a few amt legend pedals and they are the best bargain for the price!)
@@fredriksvard2603 well, it depends of course. I just think that most of time people overestimate gain in preamp over their hands attack. Some guitarist don't use much gain, but their sound is crushing, others use a lot of gain and sound dirty in a bad way and weak. It's not a rule of course - there are a lot of great guitarists with really magical hands, who put as much gain as possible and they still sound great, also you may use a lot of gain for rhythm if it's you artistic vision, but you have to understand what you are doing, otherwise you may end with a dirty messthat doesn't make much sence. Tube preamps are very sensetive to attack and there is a balance between saturation and clarity of your sound. I think tube preamps will allways have more clarity in them, so you can put more gain without making sound too muddy.
Javier Aldan , both share the same roots. At the same time, i had a feeling that Vt2 has more of that British tone. I'm more familiar with S2, cause it's very close to the sound i've been using for years. It feels more saturated generally. Somehow, I have a habit to make all amps sound the same. It doesn't matter what i play, i still sound like myself. Even though S2 and Vt2 are different, both are capable of giving you a pretty wide range of possibilities from classic rock to evil shit :) I just know that S2 is my kind of sound and Vt2 doesn't get there. I was a little bit surprised by R2 recently. I compared it to S2 a year ago and didn't notice much difference except of gain. Now I have an impression that R2 is somewhat smoother and a little more massive. I tend to like it
Hi. Question if I may. I'm putting together a full pedal board rig. Looking at the AMT M2 pedal. Will this work well: coming out of the M2 preamp out into reverb and delay pedals then into mooer radar. I will also have pedals in front of the AMT. Cheers!
Hey. Yeah, that should work just fine as long as the reverb and delay have enough headroom and can take higher input levels. Most modern pedals can handle that
I've got a different question for you, since I've decided on a Diezel style pedal. I know you haven't tried the AMT D2, but what about the one actually made by Diezel---their VH4 pedal? I appreciate your responses thus far!
Cool, thanks. You would think that the Diezel pedal comes closer to their own amp's tone, but it doesn't always turn out that way (e.g. Marshall's own pedals vs Wampler or ZVex that emulate a Marshall). It's $300, whereas the AMT is $170, but at least I can get a big discount through my son, who is a manager at Guitar Center.
Hey, I got a bit of a question. I'm looking for an alternative to my P2. I like the scooped, tigt tone it has for modern metal, but I want something that's a bit more midrangey and thicker to go with it. Which do you think would compliment the P2? The Vt2, S2, or B2?
Hey. Out of those 3 you mentioned, S2 has more high end than other two. Vt2 has the least gain. B2 has the biggest low end, so I guess that's the one to go for
Thanks. :) Thats what I was thinking as well. Dunno what a Bogner Sharp Channel is, but the B2 sounds nice from what I've heard. Any opinions on the C2?
Hey. Yeah, as a matter of fact, i'm now working on a shootout of all LA2 pedals at once. Should take me few more weeks. Right now I can tell P2 has more gain (more gain stages), they have different mids and different grain, sort of
What I've gathered from watching many of these videos is that once you set the tones the same every preamp sounds almost identical, lol. Whether it's $100 or $2000.
