AMTK 323's P5A Horn - F40PHR - 1985-1987

323 was one of my favorite F40s back in the day. I recognized its unique P5A horn immediately in the mid 1980s. Here is some of my video, audio, and photos of AMTK 323 from back then. This is certainly not even close to great quality video, but does show the locomotive as it was back then. Video was shot with a Sony BMC-110. The photos from 1986 are my slides taken with a Kodak Retina III, which was an ancient camera even back then. The 1985 photos were taken with my Kodak Disc 4000. The mono audio recordings were made with a Panasonic RQ-341 and the stereo with a Panasonic RQ-J36. Thanks for watching!

Old cast P5A with a newcast 2. Sounds glorious and your audio and videos and pictures are incredible!

Thanks. Yeah, it was definitely unique! 279 and 201 were also similar. I have recordings of those, as well. Will be working on those soon.

Holy smokes! Finally some footage of 323. Only if you have footage of 213 some of the 270s even 313.

Same! I’d love to hear 213, 214, 220, and 224 back when they had P5’s if you ever did see them! I get to seem all the time now on the Downeaster.

Since both of your comments, I have been combing through my P5A recordings. I do have an audio recording of 213 in 1988 - it has a newer cast P5A. It sounds pretty good. What I have of the 270s is mostly audio only. I have a recording of 270 with its SL4T and 275 with its K5LA on the "Amtrak Wolverine 1983 Reroutes" video. 218, 226, and 228 are there, too. 313 - I have some decent footage of in 1987 - it had an unusual K5LA. Looks like the only footage I have of 224 is in push mode. I seem to have nothing of 214 or 220. 261 had an awesome P5A for a while - I have several runbys of it, too. I do plan on making a video of that one. Look for some audio recordings of 201 and 279 soon, also. They sounded similar to 323. If you like 323's P5A - there is a Chicago to Valpo cab ride video from Railroad Video Productions that is in 323 filmed in 1985. The sound gets messed up around Hobart, though. The DVD is probably tough to find these days. I used to have it on VHS. Thank you for your interest!

@@wmuzeke 313 had a Leslie at one point back in 84-86? 358 as well and 368. 208 had a P3 for many years. 202 and 213 had a K3 well 213 at one point did in 86.

@@wmuzeke I would love to see the videos you have, Also the Albany engines on the Lakeshore 337-352 even New Haven engines lead on the Lakeshore at times. Can't wait to see more of the footage!
