This was totally fascinating. Was not aware that this service existed in the US, and just assumed you guys flew or drove or rode trains as passengers, but to be able to take your car is such a great idea. Here in the UK, we can put cars on a train service that travels UNDER the English channel to France.......also a cool idea 🚗🚅
Oh cool, yes totally. We have seen on RU-vid how some Americans and Canadians have flown into London for a couple of days there, then travel down to Southampton(not far from London) to pick up a cruise ship that will sail to France, then the coast of Portugal (for Lisbon) then sail into the Mediterranean for Italy, Sicily, South of France Etc. Just a thought. @@phoenixbluedesignstravel6403
Thank you, 95SLE! I learn more and more with each video, so I hope to increase the quality of my videos and how I'm presenting the information with each one. Take care and enjoy your travels.
When I started working for Amtrak as an Onboard Service Attendant I was hired to work AutoTrain and Dinner was included in the cost of the ticket for both sleeping car and coach passengers. I worked AutoTrain October 95-April 97
I don't know why Amtrak stopped including Dinner for Auto Train coach passengers, probably a cost cutting measure, but we loved it. I wish they would bring it back!
@@phoenixbluedesignstravel6403 haha I just got home from my 2nd amtrak ride and on this last trip the person who went to the bathroom before me did not flush. I am guessing she couldn't find the button 🤣
Good info, thanks. I’m considering the auto train soon but the roommette price just seems too much when I can fly and then rent a car. So I’m interested in the vids that mention coach. I’m glad you showed the bathroom choices for coach. I think I’ve heard others mention them in vids but no one has shown them. How was your nights sleep in coach? Did you walk around on the train at all? Is there a place for coach to sit besides their assigned seat? How was the Wifi in your car? Was there a place to buy snacks or any hot food onboard in case I can’t walk to the Jersey Mike’s?
Thank you, I'm glad you found the information helpful. My nights sleep was okay, but I'm a shortie. My husband is tall and he felt like a pretzel by morning. We normally turn our jackets around and wear the hood over our faces to block out any light. I only walked to the bathroom and to the dining car. You may be able to sit in the dining car. Amtrak Wifi is good. We watched a movie on RU-vid last time we went. I bought Lovebuds so we could listen to the movie together. Yes, there's a cafe in the dining car where you can buy snacks and hot food, but the food is pricey.
We started doing the auto train in 1999 when we move to Miami, we had a roomette that and later times 7 since than a bedroom, I thought that coach all ways had to pay seperate for there dinner. When we started they had cheese and wine tasting back in the days.
Hi Matt Brewster, No, they didn't say whether this was temporary due to COVID or not. Hopefully, it is, but I did enjoy my Jersey Mike's. 😂 There's a shopping center with restaurants in walking distance of the Lorton, VA Station and one about 15 minutes from the Sanford, FL Station.
Hi Daniel Just Daniel, My sister-in-law peeped me to the auto train. I love it. It's so convenient. Only Coach passengers on the Auto Train got their meals included. But, that's no longer the case now.😫😂
Sadly, something happened to your audio. I've noticed a trend in that area where the resulting audio is too loud in one segment and then too quiet in another.
Yes, it happens when I use my camera sometimes and when I do voice overs. I'm still trying to get the volumes set correctly. I'll get it right one day.
It's definitely not a miserable experience, especially if you're able to book seats on the lower level. The lower level seats are normally reserved for those that need handicap accessibility, but you may still be able to get a seat. The coach seats recline way more than airline seats, but I wish they reclined even more. However, it's way better than the brutal drive down to Florida and I don't like the inconvenience of flying. Hope this helps you with your travel plans. Also, I think Amtrak has a flash sale going. I saw the sale information this past weekend though.
@@phoenixbluedesignstravel6403 thanks for your reply! I am going with my wife and son I’m wheelchair dependent (cerebral palsy ) So we’ll be on the lower level hopefully it’ll be a good trip sounds like at least something different and fun!Have a great weekend.
@@mattm1686 I just did the trip last week for the fist time and really enjoyed it overall. One important thing is to try to dress such that you don't get hot out cold. My husband was too warm the whole time. Meanwhile I used a blanket. I slept better than he did. In my train the bathrooms remained fairly clean and people respected that for one another but that will vary by luck i highly encourage you to bring a little pillow. I had a neck pillow and it wasn't quite right for me. A small pillow would have actually been better. Just my opinion. And bring a lunch bag or small cooler with food because you'll be hungry..
@@phoenixbluedesignstravel6403 We are worried out sleeping with masks on. We have never done this before and it sounds like they are very strict on that. What was your experience with sleeping with a mask? any tips? Thanks for the great video.
My girlfriend and I are trying to do this the next time we go down to Orlando from NY. I want to play golf down there but would rather not deal with having to schlep my gear on a plane if I can help it since its an extra checked bag. I can deal with a 5 hour drive to VA, and $230 round trip per person is way cheaper than flying with checked bags PLUS car rental.
Yes, we want to take the train down to Orlando again, probably the Auto Train so we have our vehicle. Taxis were expensive last time we went, so we ended up using Lyft. We want to visit Discovery Cove and check out Universal's Epic Universe when it opens. 👍🏾
