Here, we see Amtrak's Southwest Chief #3 making a station stop in La Plata, Missouri on Monday, May 23, 2011. On the back of the train were two Pennsylvania RR coaches: the Greenwich Harbor and the Greenwich Estate. Pretty good catch, if I do say so myself!

My first time riding Amtrak... I was on crutches but the staff was very helpful to me! I was heading to Richmond, Virginia for a vacation but I was unable to board the train alone. Three Amtrak Personnel came to assist me. One took my crutches and held them for me while the other two personnel both took to the side of me and helped lift me onto the train! I was given great disability accommodation boarding! It was just as excellent exiting the train and for the return trip back the same thing happened!

This is a WONDERFUL video! There is so much happening : One family with a welcome poster accompanied by the clapping and the hugs, all those grandchildren hopping off the train, as much Spanish being spoken as English, the attentive station caretaker who knows the conductor on a first name basis, with the fitting ending of the departing train proudly hauling those beautiful vintage Greenwich Pullmans.

Always amazes me how people will step down to the platform and stand in everyone's way.

So nice to see so many people traveling. Maybe we will see that again one day (I hope, I hope). Two Budd Streamliner cars on the end are frosting on the cake.

The Empire Builder comes thorough Red Wing Minn. and occasionally there would be passenger cars from Milwaukee Road Hiawatha and sometimes the Ceder Rapids observation car is in the consist. Have a great day everyone.

Where was this trains departure point and ultimate destination ? Anyone know? Cheers Oh and I loved the whole upload, only one constructive point, if you had panned left slightly, there was so much human stories going on, would have made something terrific something great... I thoroughly enjoyed it nevertheless . Best F

Rheatown217 thanks much appreciated, I am ignorant re US geography, but will look it up, I guess it's quite a journey.. As someone else commented, for such a small town, a lot of folk got off the train. Seems LaPlatta has a hidden secret 😁😁

Well I have to say. I’m quite shocked that in 21st century America. That everyone gets off through 1 door on to a stool. It’s fucking unbelievable 😂
@hawkeye-vv4kb

That stool looks very primitive but I suppose still a very cheap and effective way to get on and off.

Carpetlay1 I have no idea how American trains work, But, given the length of the train (I didn't count carriages) it seems eminently sensible when approaching a small town with a small station; that a specific carriage is nominated for departing passengers. The stool, whilst a kind of relic from trains of a bygone age, is also perfect for the job.. A train like this pulling into main stations with raised platforms has no need for anything as platform is level with open carriage door. If it ain't broke then no need to change it.. Your use of language, I leave to others !!

No offense meant to anyone, but sort of reminded me of the "clown car" routine in the old circuses.
