Amusement Oddities | Six Flags AstroWorld's Marvel McFey & His Enchanted Animals 

Great memories from 50 years ago. I worked in rides (Spin Out, Astroway, Bamboo Shoot and AstroWheel) the summers of 69 - 72. I would hear the theme playing every morning in the summer as the cast danced for those waiting to go into the park..Even now I remember bits and pieces of the lyrics. Cheers everyone.

The world shall never see another style icon the likes of Marvel McFey. RIP Legend

Great memories. During the time Marvel & Co. was being phased out for WB characters my friends and I were really bummed. If they'd done 100% of the switch when the park was closed for off season it wouldn't have had the same sad impact as watching the characters and their area slowly vanish and get rebranded. It seemed like the switchover took quite some time.

UPDATE: Due to some things we learned about in regards to the Marvel McFey characters such as them being developed conceptually by Micki McClelland, which resulted in a royalty lawsuit back in the 1980s against Astroworld. We have decided to pull the characters from the Kooky Trails project in fear of being sued because Micki is still alive and I'm not sure if she would be happy with us using those characters; since we did it to pay homage to Rolly and Astroworld. So instead, we took the redesigns of the cast (which were already different from OG) and decided to make em more unique. Plus to better match with the two original characters sitting alongside them such as Glaire Y'Lynch and Jackal Vacher. On a relative note, Rolly Crump did do the character design, but the concepts were done by Micki for Astroworld. She wrote the theme song and wrote up the new characters when they did away with the very first park mascots. That and Fantasy Fair who designed Knott's Bear-y Tales did do the costumes for Marvel McFey. I got this information from the Facebook group of Astroworld Theme Park 1968-2005. Join the group on Facebook and search up Marvel McFey after you're in. It will all be clear. Kooky Trails from here on out is an all unique dark ride. Rolly Crump is still a powerful influence but the ride is on its own at this point when it comes to its style and feel. We now have influences from the likes of Toei Animation, Rankin Bass, Bill Tracy, and etc.

Unfortunately the park is long gone now. Mostly now used as a parking lot for NRG stadium. The Astrodome is still standing but the Astros now play at Tropicana Field in downtown Houston.

I really wish we had more info on these characters. Marvel and friends were awesome!

I went to Astroworld in 1989. It was a massive disappointment. The immediate area surrounding Astroworld was nothing but boarded up abandoned motels and various businesses in states of decay.
