AMV - Nostromo - Auriga 

I agree. But it still will be forever underestimated by modern watchers, since all they see is "a very good AMV". What you have to realize is how much of a revolution it was back then. One technical example to blow your mind: I believe it was the first time we had a 60 frames per second (fps) AMV. At a time when everything was 30 fps. Including the raw. Same for the diffusion supports. RU-vid couldn't handle it back then. 60fps was possible only during competitions and big event displays. For us viewers to get the "real" experience at home, we had to download the "high quality" version and run it on an actual player (VLC was out back then and could do it, while the integrated Windows Media Player would just crash). I still remember the shock I had. I had watch the RU-vid 30fps version a few times and absolutely loved it. Thus took the time to download the high quality version. It was higher resolution too, thus... heavy for that time. Took me a night of torrent download, that was this 5 minutes amv or a movie. Once I clicked "play" for the first time, I just was astonished. It was SO MUCH better. Back then, I though it was because of the resolution. Only much later I learnt about the fps trick. Now if you understand just a little bit about animation, you'll say that's either not possible or not likeable. One way to get from 30 fps to 60 fps would be by doubling the speed of display. Many AMVs does that, just to make it feel more nervous usually, and/or to match the beat... but they don't change the fps itself usually (e.g. delete one frame out of two), and it doesn't look exactly "good". Even if you do that from a 30 fps raw and transform it to a 60 fps, quicker show, it doesn't make the animation feel right. It will just be more like a teenager on drugs, over excited. But here, the clips extract are... just at the speed the creator want them and need them. Sometimes faster, but usually the regular show speed, which is in 30 fps. So how do you switch from 30fps 1x speed to 60 fps STILL 1x speed? That's right. You add frames. The freaking author added frames to the raw. And let's be clear. Just doubling the number of frames DOESN'T smooth up the animation. If you just copy paste each frame to have twice the number but only half the difference, it doesn't work. It's just exactly the feeling of 30 fps. That is NOT what's going on here. The author added DIFFERENT frames he recreated from the two existing in between, to smooth the animation. And he did that... 30 times per second of animation. That's just insane. Of course there are tricks to it, he didn't handwrite draw them, it's computational. And it's not for the whole AMV. But that's still for most of it, and still insane. And just ONE among the tens of revolutionizing ideas he applied. To be fair... the dude's a professional in big, only-happening-once animated events. Stuff like the New Year show projection on national monuments going together with the fireworks. He was doing AMVs "for fun", but still doing seriously the few he made. For that fps trick, you needed a LOT of computer power, which he happened to have at hand for his work. That plus his experience in creating the event, no wonder the competition had no chance.

This was so ahead of its time. Thirteen years later and it still slams. From the music choice to the choreography and balance. Everything is absolute perfection.

Yeah, seeing the amvs being made and hit popularity today, one really wonders how the knowledge about creating amvs as good as this has seemingly just been lost.

Those modern amv's you mention are just a bunch of clips with zooms and abusive light effects and colors... Made with zero effort and heart if you ask me... And i say this because i used to be an AMV maker some years ago...

Sorry, just busy with stuff. I am still constantly gathering footage in prevision for the next AMV though. Don't expect tutorials, there are already people making those much better than I ever could.

I'm thinking about remaking my old ones. Auriga still holds up pretty well, I could release an AI upscale I guess but I'm debating if I should do it now or wait for better algorithms.

Those two are my favorites too! P. Has made a lot of good videos, but he really outdid himself on those two.

@@Nostro- It could be pure coincidence but for me I've seen an animation in a webtoon that made me remember "Running Man" so of course I came and ended up rewaching all the others AMVs... leading to this particular realisation and comments :)

Hm, I mean the original footage is 16:9, are you expecting me to zoom in and crop to get 21:9?

@@Nostro- Oh, I was wondering if some AI tool could fill out the edges and if there were scenes in which you could cut frames to fill the edges as the camera moves.

@@kurtnelle The tech works well on still pictures but temporal consistency in video is far from optimal at the moment. I have been thinking about Auriga remake but I also have a lot of ideas for new projects. 21:9 in anyway would require way too much work.

hmm it says that my video has been suggested by Karen but I have no idea what, how or why. I never heard of her or that RU-vid had a suggestion system in place under videos.

40 secondes pendant les quelles je commençais à me décomposer en réalisant que le PC de diffusion n'arrivait pas gérer le 60fps et que le retard audio/vidéo allait tout foutre par terre.
