Amy Grant has built a long, successful career on music that matters. Ever since she burst on the scene as a fresh-faced teenager bringing contemporary Christian music to the forefront of American culture, the Nashville native gained a reputation for creating potent songs that examined life’s complexities with an open heart and keen eye. She became the first artist in Christian music to have a platinum record and went on to become a crossover sensation, her musical gifts transcending genre boundaries to make her a household name.
She’s earned six Grammy Awards and numerous Gospel Music Association Dove Awards as well as three multi-platinum albums, six platinum albums, and four gold albums. She’s achieved 10 Top 40 pop singles and placed 17 hits on the Top 40 Adult Contemporary chart as well as scoring numerous hits on the contemporary Christian charts. A longtime and active Nashville resident, Grant is as well known for her philanthropy as her music. She and husband, Vince Gill, are tireless in their efforts to aid worthy causes.

Amy Grant is without a doubt one of the most beautiful, genuine people on earth. I have seen her in concert twice and adored every moment. She pours her soul into everything she performs. This song is one of my favorites that doesn't get enough recognition. Her music is so cleanly produced. It gets inside you. Amy, you're the best!

She was/is the most exquisite beauty. I was 17 years old in 1987--recently moved across country by my parents and desperately alone. This song resonated. When I saw her in Milwaukee in 2023, this was the opening song as she came onto stage...I broke down in tears.

I’m sitting on my couch with my precious 16-year-old longhair dachshund named Edie (Eee-Dee, not Eddie). She is dying from heart disease and renal failure. We’ve made the incredibly painful decision to end her misery tomorrow afternoon. Until then, we are spending as much time as possible with her, doing her favorite things. She loves sitting in our laps, and as she sat with me just now, the lyrics to this song came to me and I knew I had to share them with her. I thank God for all the beauty and joy she has brought into the life of my family. She’s a beloved member of our family, and she’s a better soul than most humans I know. I am the most flawed and backsliding Christian ever, but I believe my Edie will go to Heaven as she crosses the Rainbow Bridge tomorrow afternoon. Thank you, Amy Grant, for creating this little gem of a song that has helped me smile through my tears. God bless.❤️

I don't think many people understand how remarkable the music production on this track is! Many think her voice (which is exceptional*) is the main-stay...but the production, downmixing, compression, and composition is a beast!!!! Dang!!!

A lot of Christian people got angry because they didn't consider this Christian music. This is when everyone realized that she was making music to specifically crossover.

I grew up listening to Amy's music. She was a good role model at the time, and probably a big reason why I chose to make the right choices while all my friends weren't.

This and several other songs of hers brought me a lot of peace during desert storm. And yes, the backup vocals are Richard Page: the lead singer for Mr. Mister.

One of those absolute writing-and-production classics of the mid-80s that didn't make it onto the supermarket playlists - you won't hear this today unless you seek it out. I had never seen the video before now, but it's absolutely brilliant artistic work as well. The main part of the song is so cheery, but the beginning and the end are so dark, and the videography really captures that... intense stuff. Written by Michael W. Smith & Wayne Kirkpatrick, with a spellbinding performance by Amy.
