I believe you found yourself a huge hunk of steel. Lead would make dull thunk when you tap it. If a magnet sticks to it, it's not lead.

It’s super soft…it was my Fiskars shovel's steel that rang like that. I was worried about time, so I edited out the part where I scratched it with my trowel…revealing deep shiny grooves in the lead. It appears that they had melted a large amount in that shop, then poured what was left into a makeshift mound in the rocks along the foundation.

Hi Steve. I have a set of 4 drinking glass "coasters" with that duck on them. (Aluminum). Or my second guess was an ash tray like you said. Rk.

Thanks for the info, Richard. It’s nice that there are other things out there with that design on them. I would have thought that an ash tray would have had the little depressions for cigarettes…but "guessers can’t be choosers!"🤣 It was a fun couple hours, for sure!

That piece of of leaf may have been a farm tool counter weight possible.

It’s the right shape, now that you mention it, Robert. The non smooth side looks like large blocks of lead were added to the molten lead as it was cooling. Your idea has merit. Thanks! That never crossed my mind, since I was "in town" and not on a farm…

Thanks for watching, Mike! That really WAS a fun couple hours. I’m only a beginner…after about a year and a half…but I’m LOVIN' this hobby! I’m always amazed by the array of different things that are lost or "chucked" by those who lived here before me. My season is on the home stretch, as it was 16° this morning…but I’ll milk it for as long as I can!
