Gun parts, utensils, coins, mason jar lids, and a find I could HARDLY lift keep me on my knees a LOT, on a gorgeous fall day. C'mon along and see what we find...
It’s super soft…it was my Fiskars shovel's steel that rang like that. I was worried about time, so I edited out the part where I scratched it with my trowel…revealing deep shiny grooves in the lead. It appears that they had melted a large amount in that shop, then poured what was left into a makeshift mound in the rocks along the foundation.
Thanks for the info, Richard. It’s nice that there are other things out there with that design on them. I would have thought that an ash tray would have had the little depressions for cigarettes…but "guessers can’t be choosers!"🤣 It was a fun couple hours, for sure!
It’s the right shape, now that you mention it, Robert. The non smooth side looks like large blocks of lead were added to the molten lead as it was cooling. Your idea has merit. Thanks! That never crossed my mind, since I was "in town" and not on a farm…
Thanks for watching, Mike! That really WAS a fun couple hours. I’m only a beginner…after about a year and a half…but I’m LOVIN' this hobby! I’m always amazed by the array of different things that are lost or "chucked" by those who lived here before me. My season is on the home stretch, as it was 16° this morning…but I’ll milk it for as long as I can!
