Flying into severe storm with hail could be dangerous because there have been some incidents where commercial aircraft flew into severe hail that resulted the loss of engine power and Garuda Indonesia Flight 421 is perfect example. On 16 January 2001, A 737-300 lost both CFM56 engines while flying into severe storm with giant hail at around 19.000 feet. The aircraft made a water landing at Solo river in Indonesia. Of the 60 people onboard only 1 didin't survive and that victim is a flight attendant. Captain Abdul Rozaq was a hero along with his copilot that day.

Are you sure that the ILS depends on the radome? Are the antennas there? I vaguely remember the press writing about them using ils and a Cat 3a autoland.

On the Airbus A320 I understand that both the Localizer and Glideslipe antenna's are located within the Radome/Nose of the aircraft.
