I always thought a knight look for Optimus would make sense considering how he usually portrayed in fiction, its just that this movie incarnation doesn't match it. Same goes for Megatron. He usually starts with noble entention but goes down a darker path, like a fallen knight
I'd say the galvatron body fits megatron, because the body is very gladiator-like, and he was the champion of Kaon, so I think the design fits megatron, just remove the chest hole.
This is definitely the best Third Party Knight Mode Optimus Prime figure as far as I'm concerned. The Toyworld and Alien Attack versions may look nice but holy hell, they don't look too fun to transform. The Unique Toys wins hands down as far as playability goes. The transformation looks to be very smooth and enjoyable, and that is what I want from all of my figures. Overall, great review, That Toy Guy!
Btw on the topic of the head, only the 1st batch came out with the nemesis head. All other versions have not come with it. They simply re-used the same box. They never advertised having the nemesis head for this release.
Dude I loved Jobby’s review so much I freaking preordered the version 2. Thank God they painted those fingers though. It’s near perfect imho. 3rd party witchcraft is shaming Hasbro and Takara. Side note, I got a replica of the sword too. It’s so cool but has some stupidly specific batteries.
Reason for the head was because it did come as an accessory for him when you purchase Unique Toys Dragoon, but later came included as regular in later releases. Plus before his hands was unpainted in the first release. As for the storing the sword without the shield issue, BS-03 is a thing that fixes the problem
Transformation is kinda similar to the voyager TLK Prime? Aside from the torso, the arms and legs behave in pretty much the same way on both figures, the way the move and what alt mode bits they become
Yea thats the MP size and budget def benefiting an alr pretty ok fig for the time but also dated by now If a new SS version would come out, they should probably just be a straight up new mold like SS Galvatron was
Great review. I really like Challenger besides a couple limited areas in the articulation. If you don't like UT Dragoon because he's too big, you should get BS-02 Dragoon Megatron (a ko of UT Dragoon that's slightly scaled down to match Challenger). The paint and sculpt on BS-02 are slightly improved from UT Dragoon as well.
I swear, when it comes to this design, I always seem to get these around the same time as you. I got the leader around the same time as you too lol. This figure's great, glad you got to mess around with it now as well
I think that Black Mamba BS-03 is better because of the proportion, it's taller, it's comparable to Unique toys TLK megatron, It has more detail, better paint, more accessories, AND YOU CAN STORE THE SWORD ON THE BACK!, It also has some minor improvement. Still, I recommend you to look it up
I was lucky enough to have found the first release, used and complete (but no box nor instructions) for a really good price. Unique Toys did it again! And again! I have Peru-Kill, Nero, Challenger, and Dragoon. I'm really looking forward their version of DotM Megatron.
"Unfortunately Dx9 seems to have dissolved" as far as I know Unique toys and dx9 were sister companies at some point. Though those were Rumors I've heard from many sources and no actual evidence because 3p companies usually don't discuss that. It does seem to be an Acoustic Wave situation where Fans Toys released that figure under the name of a different company.
im getting this toy for 91 dollars and i been doubting quality and durability but this video made me commit to buy it so by augest 12 i should have this awesome figure
Great review. I just picked up my Challenger today and transformed him. Had a problem with extending fully the tailgate on the diecast slide (due to diecast flash). Robot mode is beautiful!
Something i discovered with this figure is that in truck mode there's a hole in the back of the cab that the end of the sword handle fits into to keep the whole shield+sword weapon sandwich from drooping like i saw you had it posed.
I put tiny rubber bumpers (they're stickers) on the bottoms of the feet/vehicle bumper of my primes where the feet meet the surface he's standing on. When properly placed these tiny circular rubber bumpers kinda blend in with the lights and rivet details on the vehicle bumper on my black mamba dotm mpm prime
Unfortunately with my copy (I had the black and green "destroyer") the tabs don't always line up and fit in, and the bottom of one of the smoke stack snapped off. I tried to glue it back on, but it wouldn't hold.
I am NOT a fan of the Bayverse nor of the Bayverse's designs... but, boy, do I love knight Prime! ... ... (And the dinobots... but that may be because I'm a sucker for dinobots)
I personally dig Knight Orion! Such a shame the qc on it sucks and literally everyone who reviewed that figure had it broken somewhere (except for the wizard EmGo). Not really a sucker for accuracy but Challenger just looks too blocky compared to the cgi model that it looks weird. Also the the truck mode of that one looks beefy and sick like a war machine rather than a civilian vehicle. Challenger's too squished horizontally … so disappointed that Black Mamba didn't knock off that one instead and perhaps fixed it, because they teased few years ago that their version of AOE/TLK Optimus would be based on Knight Orion. Hoping someone will make a better version of this Prime because this design is pretty damn creative. For years Optimus was just an red guy with the windows of the truck for it's chest, wheels in the legs, Ion Blaster, and may be some smokestacks in the shoulders. It really feels like Michael had some passion on it.
I'm still hoping for an undersized scale for this, like voyager scale. It might not happen but I just love how good this figure is, not even hasbro came close.
8:04 Do you mean Shadow Spark Optimus Prime? When u say u wanted the Rusty deco of the last knight leader class optimus prime? Also Big fan from the Philippines bro You inspire me to buy Optimus Prime figure.
The only issue I’ve had with him was his elbow breaking, I had to return it to tfsource for a replacement. His right elbow is very stiff, I had to put dish soap into his right elbow so it wouldn’t break again. Even then I’m still weary about transforming it. Do you have a similar issue with it?
As a knight Orion owner: smart call to not get him lol. He’s a bastard of a figure. Better than Alien Attack, but just as much of a pain in the ass in it’s own ways.
still waiting for a good Mp form of the first movie prime lol, all are off, even the blackapple. Looks beautiful in paint and detail, but the chest is off, the head is off and too small, the transformation is a mess.
I thought it did have a clip for the sword the one before did anyways U prolly lost it as well because I'm sure they do have one also U can plug the shield sword holder into the hole on the back
The KO of this guy is even better than the original, since the KO has a brighter, more accurate paintwork, improved sculpting , as well as reworked hinges and joints.
Quick question bro, where did you get this version of Challenger? I've been searching, but it's hard to tell what version each retailer is selling. If you could let me know, that would be great.
Trust me That old head sculp its horrible This one Its waaay better Yeah no lights, no blood on face but now he is handsome af Unlike the old one where you would want to keep the mask on forever
My toyworld wwii hotrod snapped in half on a die cast piece because the transformation was such a cluttered mess I had to step away from the damn thing or it would've been thrown in the trash. It's just an overpriced action figure with loose arms now so as an advice, avoid toyworld at all costs
