"When I finally parked it(Bolt) at my home charging station, it had gone 322 miles on a single charge. Not bad for a car rated at 238 miles per charge. Even more impressive was the fact that I didn't really try very hard to get that many miles out of it. I spent plenty of time in traffic, which helped, but there were a few sections that I was moving along at 65-70 mph as well. No matter how you look at it, 322 miles out of a Bolt is pretty impressive." - Ed Hellwig Edmund's
Good review. Note that for the time being, as of Jan 1st 2023, due to the Inflation Reduction Act, the Bolt qualifies for the $7500 Tax Credit again. Also the MSRP price has dropped nearly $6000!
Love to have a Model 3, but price increases and current wait time of nearly a year, I'll have a look in the Spring and see where things stand for the Bolt.
Gr8 car. I have 2017. Chevy giving me new battery pack with more range. I got this off lease with 42,000 miles. Couldn’t be happier. I don’t care about taillights. 😃
Many people confused about Sport Mode. It does not in any way give you more power. It simply changes the sensitivity of the gas pedal to bring on more power earlier. In other words? You will go 0-60mph in the exact same time with Sport Mode Off or On.
I'm excited for the Bolt series. Getting the Bolt EUV and can't wait. Test drove it and was really impressed. Seems like most of the EV cars are big and large which I didn't want. Bolt fits nicely as a sub compact. The Tesla is becoming very dated compared to the others out there and over priced. Looks like GM is getting their EV strategy right.
Picking up a 2022 Bolt Ev. It was a no brainer. 8k less from last years 2021 Chevy Bolt. Then another 8k off with Prov and Fed tax incentive, plus free level 2 charging installation, and since I work for a certain company I get Employers price. This is Canadian pricing of course. With all of this going for the 2022 Bolt you can actually make your money back by saving on fuel. All other EVs as of today are still over priced and will never make up for Fuel.
@@gillfowdy For the 1LT B.C Pricing is $40,500 plus tax. Not bad for a full EV vehicle and not to mention the Fed and Prov benefits. Most fordable EV to date.
I have a 2021 bolt and I love it! A lot of people stay away from them because of the few bolts that caught on fire but they do have an update that disables charging to 100% so maximum charging is 85% to prevent the risk of a fire until you get the modules repaired but it’s going to be a while till mine is fixed because they’re currently working on 2017-2019 models. I don’t mind the wait though
I have a 2018 Bolt, and it has the regen paddle and sport mode; the video makes it sound like both options are new on the 2022 model. Also, I use the regen paddle even when using one-peddle/Low drive mode. The paddle provides a more aggressive regen, and slows the car more than just the one-peddle. I like having the option of using either/both.
I have 2017 Bolt. Mine also has the Sport mode and Regen Paddle. I also like the option of using both one peddle and the steering wheel paddle. My disc brakes may last longer than the car lasts. :>)
Nice video! The new 2023 Chevrolet Bolt is now the cheapest EV in America! The Bolt is a quality EV with great range and offered at a great price. 🚗 ⚡️
We had a 2017 Bolt and loved it, but decided to go with a Tesla Y. We've only had the Tesla for a short time, but we've already sold and now have a 2022 Bolt on order. The Bolt runs so much smoothly and has many safety features that are absent on a Tesla.
i have the 2020 bolt. its a great ev for the price. i dont think anything else comes close for the price. the bolt should at least be on your test drive list before you buy an ev.
Thank you Chevy for bringing the bolt back, thank you thank you thank you...! I'm getting me a bolt to add in with my 2007 Tahoe that I am a proud owner of! Thank you so much!
I have the 2021 Bolt EV Premium & luv it. Wish it had Adaptive Cruise Control w/active braking but it does not. GM did the battery exchange w/66kw pack. As a city car with conservative to sporty driving I am getting 5.9 kw/mi. Full charge show 369mi range. I do not use heat or A/C unless I am carrying passengers. Very capable car.
I feel the tax credits are a farce - the credit only applies to money you owe, so again, the richer person gets the credit while those that make less money, well the credit turns to dust. I would be very interested in your comparing or commenting on which of the cars in this price range is the most comfortable and quieter daily driver to work and such. I think there were 3 cars that are real similar in price, what if one of those 3 or 4 cars offered a very different ride experience? That would be big information. Good video here, thumbs up 👍
Yes, one must have at least $7500 of tax liability to get the rebate. Plus, dealers just mark up the price by that much. Did you notice how the price of the bolt dropped as soon as the credit expired? It's a farce that politicians use to tell their voters that they're doing something, even though it makes it HARDER for the poor to purchase EVs.
The 2025 Bolt is on the way and is going to feature some important upgrades. The Bolt had been officially discontinued for a few months, and then I suppose Chevy realized that people actually really like this car, so they have announced they are going to continue making them.
Good review but you should have mentioned Chevy moved the brake lights from the big tail lights you see to the bottom of the car. I think that's a bad move.
I'm really interested in this car (with updated battery of course). I would probably prefer a Kona over this but because Hyundai only sold them in a dozen(ish) states its hard to find them in near Minneapolis but maybe next year when those with more money area upgrading to Ionia 5's or EV6's there will be a few more around. Either way, when we get to the point we can seriously look at an EV, I will seriously consider a Bolt.
i test drove both, and bought the bolt. the bolt is the better car, better ride, felt more solid, and had full one pedal driving. you should drive both before you make your decision.
The Bolt was a fine EV .If someone really wanted an EV for around town travel the Bolt is the best choice. The only thing was the LG batteries supplied to GM . LG created the issues not GM.
July 2022. I have a '19 awd-e Prius, which is a fantastic car, but they're going used for $10K more than purchase price, so I'm considering selling mine and ordering a '23 Bolt.
Im not a fan of more than base model reviews that don't let us know what comes on base versus the model they are showing... I am one of the few Maverick owners and I'm considering going with this cause Ford "infotainment" system sucks. Its integration is bad, sound is bad (XL base that is), clarity is bad, and the rear view camera is really bad. They also missed programing the Hybrid side well at all for those of us who live not on flat ground. My driveway is steep and I can get about 10% regen back in the HEV battery going down. But if I turn around and go up the ICE will come on (needs to) and I get another 10% back in via the ICE while going back UP, which kills the MPG's. This will top off the HEV battery often, and I won't even get regen going down, as the battery is full. Its idiotic. But I really don't want a small cabin low to the ground EV, but the price sure is not bad on this.
I hope I can get this when I finally pay my GMC pickup off next year (May '23). Nothing "wrong" with that big boy per se; he gets 20 mpg, impressive for a 5,000 lb machine with a V8. But I like electrics for many reasons (none of them environmental/political). I'm nowhere near rich (work for a tree trimming service), but this is one electric car that *doesn't* seem too rich for my blood.
Yup I bought a 2014 Silverado V8 and and ready to pay off it off in a year. I don’t need it as a daily and am more concerned about my environment footprint. I’m trying to live with what I only need
Nice job. Your presentation style is significantly above average. You talk, but without a lot of wasted blah-blah. It's organized, not all over the place and disjointed. When you talk you are actually talking about something pertinent to the subject at hand, and that is likely something of interest to someone interested in the vehicle. Thanks.
Good review. I wish the Fed Tax Credit either applied to all EVs or no EVs. Why punish success? Or EV buyers tend to have higher than average incomes: why give them a government handout?
Which 3 electric SUV has the largest trunk space, please? I pick people up with large luggage a lot from the airport and this has become more of a necessity rather than a simple luxury. Thank you so much for this helpful video. Wishing you the best of health, success, and genuine contentment.
The batteries are a fire hazard, the seats are awful, uncomfortable in 30 minutes, slow DC fast charging, ride is stiff, no software updates, only one regen very strong. The good is, range is good, reasonable space, efficient except in winter no heat pump, no spare tire, nimble, pretty quiet, pretty quick, ev driving is great.
The higher and higher gas prices get....electric vehicles will become a more popular alternative. Though Americans will always want giant trucks and SUVs and complain when the gas prices hit $4 and up.
Seats are better, always had 3 ways to regen-and one pedal+paddle are cumulative , many new cars (including ICE) don’t have spare (and those that do are not full size)
Really like the car, but there is no way I'll pay MSRP for one of these, especially with the EVs that Hyundai and Kia will be releasing soon - they'll have a fresh federal tax credit and they are superior EVs. The Bolt is an economy EV, built on the same line as the Sonic, and it should be priced accordingly.
Hyundai and Kia in our area of Arizona adds a market adjustment charge or $5 or $10k The new inflation reduction point of sake $7,500 should keep the Bolt a best buy.
So Korea is offering a rebate on Hyundias and Kias? I know the US isn't giving rebates on them because I heard how pissed Hyundai and Kia are about it.
Great review ...very helpful ... excellent car (especially cargo space, which helps a lot in real-life situations) .............. Moan ... Not having the $7,500 tax break is a show-stopper. [Edit - more reading shows that sensible heads have prevailed and the credit may become $12,500 ...unfortunately, the tax credit legislation is stalled, GM recalled every last one of these vehicles, and none are being built. I'm not in a hurry, and hopefully, they'll stop burning these cars to the ground and get them back into production -- with a tax credit]
The Bolt will soon be moved to the Ultium battery platform, with much greater range and more space. Also, given the unfortunate LG CHEM battery recall, it'll probably get a new name.
I prefer the 'squiggly' lights. Unique and more character. For my country I would prefer a hybrid. Our grid is not ready for affordable electricity. The Ford Maverick hybrid remains my pick of the practical, affordable Electric power assist vehicles.
I mean, if the 12.5K refundable tax credit gets passed......how could I pass the Bolt up? Especially since the cheapest tesla alternative costs $14,190(!) more than the standard 2022 bolt. I get that Teslas did a lot to make EV's a thing in this country, but its not much use to me when everything they manufacture is targeted entirely at the luxury car market. there needs to actually be a mass market accessible EV if there is going to be a real shift here from ICE to EV's. I'm thinking the Bolt has the best chance of finally fitting that mold in 2022
The only problem is once those refundable tax credits get passed, guess what happens then? Stealerships hike up that price of the vehicle and then buyers are right back to square one
Wait for Bolt EV discontinuation sale they'll be sub $20K with GM Ultium replacing them. Or just wait until first of the year when $7,500 tax credit will be reinstated.
@@normt430 What is the "Bolt EV discontinuation sale"? Are they discontinuing the Bolt or what? I think there will be a wait for the Bolt at the $26k price, don't you? And if it gets the new rebate it would be under $20k which is cheap even for an ICE car. I don't see how it can lose. I think it will be very successful, don't you?
@@joeking433 the Bolt EV was already $18-19K in 2018-2019 and with Ultium battery being made right now in Ohio, the Bolt EV won't be around for very long.
I try to buy one from my Montreal dealership and they told me they can make the order but they don’t know when they will receive the car. They are not very willing to sell me the car that is the feeling I have. I just gave up in the end.
Does speed affect fuel efficiency, as it does with gasoline cars? For every mile above 55, the efficiency decreases with a gasoline car, so I drive 60 mph on the highway, instead of the speed limit of 70, which most drivers exceed.
I and plenty others have planned to get the bolt and now this(they are getting rid of it), that is not a good look for keeping loyal customers...If it's not broke don't try to fix it with a chevy equinox that's the wrong answer...just keep what you got
Question is a surge protector needed when I stalling the 240 outlet at home ? I just got the outlet installed last week and the electrician said he would recommend a surge protector which would cost $520. Is he trying to upsell me or a surge protector is needed?
To the chevy CEO...It appears because of what price chevy has the bolt they could be losing money...but ...really really reaally consider keeping the Bolt... rarely does a vehicle come along that catches my eye...Like the 2007 chevy tahoe (that I still own) it is a game changer...look wise and all...reconsider...I think even if you raised the price some you still win...The chevy equinox is not a good bet...and I know when there is a winner...Im just not buying the sale price is rhe reason the bolt is gone...Fix what is going on with it and keep it going...Please feel free to right me back...I am a loyal customer of chevy
I would take this any day of the week over a Tesla. I do wish it was AWD, which the Tesla can do, but this is a much nicer interior and now that it's less than $30k, it's really about half the price. I just don't know if I could do this as I am an enthusiast. How about a dual motor RS version with ~300hp, Chevy?
Stations such as Electrify America, EVGo, blink, Chargepoint, even Tesla Destination chargers if you have an adaptor (not the Superchargers, the gray boxes.)
Times has changed...in a few months...M3SR is now at 47,000. Add 1 or 2 options it's closer to 50,000. Meanwhile the Bolt still 31,000 to 32,000. The biggest downfall is the 50KWH DCFC. Chevy, you should of bumped it to 100KWH. Or 75 KWH with a decent changing curve 10% to 50% at 75 then 50% to 80% at 50....
Do you still have to pay $750 for DC Fast Charging provision? The fast charging speed is still limited to 50kw. This will be huge con when taking this car to long road trips.
I'm glad other options are coming on the market but I'm not a fan of the interior or exterior design. Doesn't feel as exciting as the TSLA looks or performance. I also rather future-proof my car with option of FSD than be stuck driving myself in 3-5 years.
That's funny. ExxonMobil isn't going away in your lifetime. Do you realize how much oil is consumed outside of gasoline usage. It's in so many products that you buy on a daily basis
The recall is for every one, all 140,000 of them, all years. Waiting for the batteries to come in for the battery upgrade, I mean to fix the fire problem from the 238 mile range to 260 with zero degredation. My wife's is a 2019 model.
