There's an immediacy working with hardware synths that sets them apart from software plugins that I find really inspirational. Today I put the ISE:NIN in Arp mode and jam away, discovering old tricks in a new light that get me wanting to write more.

Thanks for the video. To explain the aluminum choice over steel, we ship these from Tokyo worldwide. Size and weight were big considerations to keep the shipping price and the carbon footprint low. The first batch of Deckards Dream was steel and it was heavy AF. The metal is done in Tsubame Sanjo, Japan and the wood cheeks are made from Tamo, so we kept it classy ;)

Thanks for this. Was on the fence til I watched this video. Of all the videos on YT, this is the only one where the ISE-NIN actually sounds like a Jupiter to me.

What a fantastic sounding synth ! And the envelopes are so snappy ! I hope to get one some day, this is my dream synth at the moment.

Aluminum is more or less the standard synth-building medium of choice for panels, enclosures, etc. Most modular panels, Serge panels and boats, Buchla boats, etc. are all aluminum. Roman (the heart of Black Corp) started in modular, so this was probably the logical choice. Anodized or painted aluminum is also virtually indestructable. ;) I build with anodized aluminum myself. Typically 3mm thick panels though, so there's still some weight to them. I guess it's good that they don't do what Compaq computers used to do. They'd put extra weights and heavier weighted parts in their cases to make their computers heavier. The reasoning was that corporate buyers would equate it with quality, and go with their products. I think it worked for a while. :D Nice video, and nice sounds! Has a nice space-game or cyberpunk-game sort of sound to it in your hands!

Yeah I only mention the "weight" because I used to own the Pulsar and that thing was super heavy and I "think" they def used some type heavy metal. I think Aluminum ultimately is the right choice but it's a funny psychological thing I guess. Thanks for stopping by and your thoughtful comments! :)

@@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE I have to admit, I do like something that feels a bit heftier as well sometimes. I guess it depends on the device really. The Waldorf M is one of those. Just feels nice all around.

@@hotcue4586 yeah Pulsar had to go to make room for Perkons. Nothing personal, loved Pulsar. Just can’t keep everything and that’s served me well in the long run.

For a module, I wouldn’t complain about the weight one bit. Attach it to something if that’s an issue. For a keyboard synth it’s different story imo. Needs a certain weight to it.

Very cool. Shows off some of the wild cross mod that 80's Roland can do. My biggest grievance about these units from black corporation is how cheap they feel. I had a Xerxes and it just felt like a tin tobacco box. If something is going to cost many thousands of dollars it should have some heft to it. Some build quality.
@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE
@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE Год назад
They are well built but yeah it’s the light weight that gives false impressions. Not saying they should artificially inflate the weight but I think they could have explored a slight heavier metal for the outer case or make the side panels solid block of wood or some other material. Look and feel is not paramount but it’s a necessary element for these types of boutique synths. It’s bummer. Would I have paid $500 more? Sure

You’re right actually. We’ve listened and definitely improved on the build quality from the first Xerxes mk1 (our first slimmed down table top). We’ve started using much better pots from ISE-NIN and soon to be shipping Kijimi MK2.

That thing sounds nothing like a real Jupiter 8. Not by a long shot. It sounds like a dull VST, even though it's a hardware synth.

Appreciate the feedback. Don’t own a Jupiter 8 and so I can only speak from my comparison to the Arturia plugins and I’d say they are markedly different to my ears. Not saying one’s better than the other generally speaking.

How can anyone justify buying this when you can get a polybrute or mateixbrute for the same price. This is ridiculous, I hope these synth manufacturers pull their heads out of their butts.
@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE
@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE 11 месяцев назад
I hear ya. When it comes to hardware, it's a rabbit hole slider of value, function, built, brand, etc. Niche products from my experience don't follow normal economic rules. I mean look at the modular market! :). That's why I think you have companies like Arturia and Behringher as main stream. Then you've got boutique companies like Black Corporation doing their own thing. So yeah, I've covered this whole topic in this video if you've not checked it out already. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dY-vEJs5290.html

Deckard's sounds nothing like the CS80
@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE
@DUNGEONMUSICTHEATRE 7 месяцев назад
I think Deckard’s Dream is a fantastic, small footprint, practical, complete analog circuit (not just filters) path attempt at a hardware homage to the CS-80. I think while I would agree the Deckards don’t sound exactly like a CS-80, it’s not far off. I think it’s not fair to say it doesn’t sound “anything” like it. Just my 2 cents but I respect your opinion. Thanks for writing in.

@@80smusicproducer That's fair. At some point I'll post more "organized" set of tracks on my channel. It takes a lot of effort so I try to separate "music" tracks from "demo's which is mostly "knob-turning" or in this case with the ISE NIN "slide pushing" :)
