I have a feeling, that Lenovo (and Motorola) are going with Aperture Science philosophy. They're not asking "Why?", they're asking "Why not? Why shouldn't we make this?"
"Why are most of our products so strange? Why not marry industry standards if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent an industry standard door that won't hit you on the butt on your way out? Because YOU ARE FIRED! Not you, Mr. Fisher, you're doing fine. Yes. You. Box your stuff! Out the front door! Parking lot. Car. Goodbye!"
I think something everyone should always remember is technology can be impressive and useless at the same time. There is a ton of stuff here most people will never use
Hi Michael, Appreciate your clear, direct and comprehensive disclosures. I am pretty sure other reviewers got free food and drinks from HMD etc. but did not disclose it. In their defense this may be irrelevant but appreciate your extra effort in this direction. Cheers!
11:30 the ball bouncing thing! I did something pretty much identical in highschool, about 10 years ago. We used Arduinos for the balancing part, and a Kinect for the vision part.
HMD fusion could actually work. Their interface is super simple (it's just USB2 and an ADC pin), which makes it really simple to implement anything on it. Kinda bummed that I already bought a new phone this year, otherwise I probably would have started developing a side-slider version of my Fairberry keyboard attachment for this phone.
The phone you saw for a second is the Punkt MC02 a $750 (+$17 per month after the trial ends or else you don't get to use the included apps) phone running the mid range Dimensity 900. It just runs modified android, a fork of grapheneos to be exact. If you want a privacy focused phone ironically google is your best bet, that + grapheneos gives you the best camera, good performance, and since prices for pixels drop like bricks a better deal. the best thing I can say about the punkt phone is that it has a headphone jack and microSD
My first thought was "Why?" Who would want that thing? Did they do any market research at all outside of fresh out of MBA school dudes who greenlight anything with the letters AI in it?
The Motorola inverse screen bend is more fascinating to me not because of the screen, but it's more of the inside that is more interesting. It shows that they have really flexible motherboard and battery and no bound to rigid designs.
Great video as always. Also, I respect the full transparency of even the companies that provided food and drink during your travels and not just the ones you're financially involved with or provided funding. Tip of the hat. 🤠
What the developers at humane should do is to keep the AI Pin concept alive and pair it with AR glasses. This would totally revolutionize our smartphone experience. Picture this: when you want an immersive experience, you pop on the AR glasses, seamlessly integrating your digital world with the real one. But when you want a more traditional experience, just take off the glasses and use the AI Pin independently. It's like having the best of both worlds And let's talk about those AR glasses - with powerful built-in cameras for capturing memories and collaborating with the AI Pin for hand tracking, it's a game-changer. Plus, imagine a dimming feature right in the glasses for added convenience. This is not just the future of smartphones; it's a whole new era of tech that's both exciting and practical. I think this will make the AI pin a little bit more appealing .
The only Moto module I don't own is the Hasselblad one, since that was like $250 and near impossible to find. I do have the projector one and the 360 one.
PLEASE do a review of the Oneplus Watch 2! I've been wanting to switch to Android from iOS but the one thing holding me back is the android watches. This new watch looks promising!
06:00 They could have atleast used Mediatek Dimensity 6100+ which is cheapest 5G processor offered by Mediatek. ( I don't understand why they choose decade old 4G compatibility only.)
9:23 it's valid to notice that even high end devices like Michael Fisher's at this mentioned moment, when using the front facing camera for video, completely ignores the polarity of the referred camera, when it comes to audio. Inverting left and right, channel sounds.
The Motorola phone concept as a bracelet looks amazing when worn. I would totally wear a smart-bracelet over a smart-watch any day, and I say that as a GW6 user.
That humane ai pin is super sketchy. There was a big controversy when it was announced online about how a lot of the information it displayed was blatantly false/incorrect. Sure, that happens with AI, but I don't know if I trust a company that can't fact check their own advertisement before posting it with my data, much less a battery cell on my chest.
I asked about that; apparently the launch video was created from multiple cuts and the end result gives the impression it's less reliable than it is. Now, I realize that sounds like covering their ass, and it well might be, but it came from one of the software engineers (not the PR team) and sounded credible when she explained it. Will explore this more when I cover it with a dedicated video.
Love to see a review on the OnePlus watch ! Great coverage on MWC btw, interesting stuff this year! Im actually pretty excited for HMD to get into the scene as a house brand. The modular concept is something I loved from my LG G5
Ok iv changed my mind on the ai pin. It’s too expensive but I would love a ruggedised version to take skateboarding/mountain biking. Similar to using a smart watch to do the same thing however the addition of the projector so I can watch videos/tutorial’s, and also so I have a camera I can use to quickly record myself and review how I’m doing.
Tbh, the idea of having a wrist phone with fitness tracking sensors seems pretty cool. 🥺 Could have a sports mode or something where it switches to track vitals only when a someone's working out... Just slap your phone on your wrist and you don't need a smartwatch anymore! 😬
This right here. Recorded this on an H2N handheld recorder in a blanket fort in my Barcelona apartment, instead of the usual sound booth with C414XLS in Brooklyn. Also trade shows are hell on my voice (and general health). Will sound better on the next one!
Dear Michael, thank you for covering the event for us. I clearly would like to see a review of the oneplus watch. And oh… maybe with foldables phones would become fun again.
I'm personally done with the flip phone experience. I had a slipperyAF, ZFlip 5. Flipping the thing every time I want to use something got annoying. The size and dimensions aren't good for content. Display crease, which becomes a gutter later, is very distracting. Bad battery life and average cameras. I've been on the fence to try the OnePlus Open, but I hope it's not going to be only foldables in the future because it's probably not for me.
@@pAirA_ I'm in the same boat. My Fossil Gen 5 Carlyle is overdue to be replaced. I did really enjoy that watch, but the battery life is down to 14 hours a day before a recharge is needed. I'm curious to see how OnePlus differentiates itself from Google and Samsung in regards to smart watches. I do like some of the Samsung watches, but I get the impression that you need to have Samsung phones to get the full effect.
One device I'd be interested to see more about, as boring as it may look, is that Punkt phone we can briefly see at 9:15. Their previous minimalistic feature phones were intriguing. (Oh, and sorry for the lack of feedback as of late. I've been apartment hunting and I'm preparing for a move, and I'm pretty sure you know how tedious and painful a process this is…) Cheers! //Rick
I’ve reserved my clicks keyboard today. I can’t wait to purchase it as I’ve been looking for a product exactly like it since I purchased my iPhone eight months ago.
the best way to go FOR THE "MODS" according to me are the MAGNETIC POGO PINS WHICH COULD FAST CHARGE THE DEVICE OR GIVE FUNCTIONALITY LIKE IT WAS A PART OF THE PHONE
The OnePlus Watch 2 is coming **just** too late. I was looking for a smartwatch with great battery life, a good feature set, and a reasonable price. I ended up with an Amazfit GT4. I really wanted a WearOS watch, but the only one with stellar battery life is the Ticwatch Pro 5, and that is just too bulky for me (as well as $50 more expensive than the GT4 even on sale). So that HMD Fusion development kit sure would make it easy to create a Clicks module for HMD, eh? Nudge nudge?
@TheMrMobile A small part of me thinks that the spinning crown that currently does nothing will eventually be an input method with a software update. Which will be a welcome surprise and they benefit by getting a 2nd round in the news cycle.
While Samsung and Apple have constantly launched the same mobile with new internal for years, Motorola and Lenovo are like "What if". They have their own Multiverse of Madness which sometimes makes you question other brand's R&D and Innovation. Regardless, compared last couple of years, MWC'24 was actually fruitful with some new innovation, cheaper & modular concepts, and technology which might actually help in Future. Personally, I am excited for Humane AI Pin, it will completely change the market as we know.
They need to think about the following idea: a smartphone in your pocket as a hub connected to the ring for health tracking and a Google Glass-like glasses to show you important info, plus Apple Vision Pro-like AR. That's all you need while on the go
