An Alaskan Moose Hunting Trip with an Argo Gone Wrong - Day 1

We initially planned a three day moose hunting trip in the wayback: Over the tundra, through large mud holes, across a wide braided river and countless streams to a location that was six hours from the trailhead. On our first hunting trip out of camp we had a unfixable problem that turned our moose hunting adventure into a self recovery mission. I really did not think we would make it back without significant problems; however, great teamwork can overcome large obstacles.
The vast majority of this trip is filmed in first person with a chest mount GoPro. That said, there are shots that would have been better filmed in third person.
In this two part adventure we spend day one traveling by Argo through some difficult terrain and end the day with the breakdown. On day two, we limp back to the trailhead and overcome several challenges.

Thank you, it was a pretty fantastic trip. We did look over a good bull, but it would have been a mistake to go after him. The season ended pretty for filling so no complaints here.

Not sure I’d go that far with only 1 machine. But. Hey. You look like kings. All the armchair hunters are full of advice lol. Fun times

Good fix on the track. Those river crossings looked a bit tense at times. I understand why you want and Argo. Lol. Stay safe.

I only included one of the floating adventures, but there were several when we were first trying to cross. I’m not too keen on floating.

You need to build/make you a pouch cozy for your meals to warm up in and rehydrate

Superb video. You are a lucky man live in Alaska (such a beautiful place) with all the hunting and fishing opportunities. I have been told it is a sportsman’s paradise. Your videos are proof. Two questions if I may: 1. Do you carry a sidearm for “Griz” as "Bear Claw" Chris Lapp said in the movie “Jeremiah Johnson”? 2. What caliber and manufacturer of rifle do you use for moose hunting?
@RaisedinAlaska
@RaisedinAlaska Год назад
I frequently carry a side arm when I’m out hiking or adventuring. I was recently charged by a extremely large grizzly bear in close quarters and now I carry one even more frequently. I’ll share some of that adventure on Christmas day. I was wearing a chest mount to go pro, but it didn’t get any actual footage of the bear itself, just his grunts. Needless to say, it was more adventure than I wanted. For a moose I carry a 340 Weatherby and really like the performance.

Thank you. Of the Russian videos I have seen, I think the Alaskan landscape is very similar. Thank you for watching. - Спасибо. Из русских видео, которые я видел, мне кажется, что пейзаж Аляски очень похож. Спасибо за просмотр

What was the average speed you traveled at?
@RaisedinAlaska
@RaisedinAlaska 5 месяцев назад
Average speed is probably only six or 7 miles an hour given that there was a lot of mud and tough terrain to navigate.

I didn’t think it was that bad: we did learn to leave it on direct heat for a few minutes instead of just adding boiling water and leaving it. It was easy for sure.
