You could tell those workers had top secret security clearances. Who in their right minds would use that service?

Yeah if I didn't want to shred I would literally put my documents in my compost garden before I brought them there!!!!😬😏

You just can't get out of going through every f'ing single envelope without the possibility of overlooking important documents and information...Example: I spent >100 hours of opening/sorting/reading/organizing/shredding and if I'd just shredded everything without opening each and every single envelope I would have missed out on 2 checks for a total of $12.08! Don't tell me it doesn't pay to be meticulous!

So basically...you're giving sensitive documents to a company...and trusting that they destroy them as opposed to...I don't know...using them to steal your information? What part of this makes sense? You're throwing your stuff in a garbage bin where hundreds of people will surely have access to, employees of the facility or random people also there to have documents shredded and you're HOPING that no one takes the papers out of the trash and sells them...

I usually burn very important documents myself, such as personal checks. However, in modern days, many companies offer paperless statements.

So, I get a shit load of unwanted junk mail. Then, I'm expected to burn my gas to go to some place where I pay another 2 bucks to have it shredded? No. I like the idea where you destroy it yourself in a buck of water, and make paper machet, let it dry, and voila! Make fire logs.

If you're going through and blacking out the sensitive parts of the information, then you can dispose of it with your regular trash. This is not a safe alternative for documentation disposal.

Yeah, you can still read ink through any color marker, because they are not the 100.000% same exact color, so the ink shows through, or you can look at the reverse side of what is blacked out and still read it if the front side is too difficult. All blacking out does, is make it take more time.

And when those sensitive documents blow away before incineration I'm sure it will be just fine.

There's public charcoal grills near where I live. I'll go there periodically and burn them up. Quick and efficient. Just throw a few in at a time.

The message of this video was most likely meant in the spirit of helpfulness...while the actual information presented may not have delivered upon that mark for everyone. There are some distinct differences when reaching different goals...burning/incinerating IS NOT recycling and actually creates a small amount of pollution via combustion. Legitimate shredding services actually "recycle" destroyed documents and turn that raw material into new paper-based products, thereby closing the loop on environmentally sound practices. Please try and think about the goals of the material prior to deciding what options are truly best. When we decide to throw recyclables away, we only drive up the long-term costs of waste handling and collection, regardless if it's landfilled or incinerated.

Then these shredding companies need to stop charging so much money. Because it's extremely expensive to have them shredded.

That wasn't the point. The point was that they were supposed to have offered a convenient way to dispose of lots of sensitive material without having to go through everything. But now they're suggesting you should go through it to block out sensitive material. Which is why I said, if your going to go through every paper and mark out sensitive material then you could just throw it away in your own trash. In other words, "that service isn't a whole lot of help". I'd also like to say if it wasn't for trash, lazy scumbag thieves we wouldn't be going through all this.

"If it wasn't trash, lazy scumbag thieves we wouldn't be going through all this." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gunny: I agree with you one-hundred percent. Unfortunately, these will always be around. The one's who are extra adept, adroit and possess the patience of a lion to do what these "clean" thieves do. It is so ironic that now Apple, Google, and others are challenging to any individual who can successfully hack into their systems. The reward could be hundreds of thousands of dollars and probably a high-class job in their security department! One would think that Apple and Google with all of their gloried, sagacious and erudite employees that they would have the sufficient wherewithal in order to fight security breaches, but, this leaves me wondering -- Is evil overcoming the good? www.cbsnews.com/news/companies-hire-hackers-to-break-into-their-systems/

So you pay $2 to have someone light it on fire... Well, if all they do is burn it and don't filter the output, you can do that at home and have entertainment worth at least $2. I thought this was going to be more environmentally friendly than just burning it. I guess the only advantage this has, is that you don't have to worry about starting local fires on accident from flying burning papers picked up by the wind and don't have to smell it or if you live somewhere that trash fires are prohibited. I see the water + bleach + hand mixer, but that requires a powertool. I'm looking for something more environmentally friendly than burning, but not requiring me to buy an electric tool. I have a Paper Shredders, but it is noisy as heck and slow. There has to be a cheap and quiet and elegant solution for destroying paper documents without using much physical work at all and not being as harmful as burning.

@@aquaearthnfirequ_pinsnsavi1721 I've heard redworms used for composting can eat junk mail, but it is also recommended to feed them non-colored non-glossy soy based ink newspaper, so I'm not sure how effective that would be. They also say to tear the newspaper into strips, which is basically shredding.
