Great trick Brian. I have an extra step for you. On stage 3 if you see them take the poison card you can play around a bit like "tell you what you can choose the rest of my cards" or "do you want to swap one of my cards for the cards that are left" Or something like that.

This trick is a thing of pure beauty! I have loved it ever since I saw Ricky Jay preform it at the end of “Hustlers, Hoaxsters, Pranksters, Jokesters and Ricky Jay.” Also that Domain ad was great! I really do appreciate how this channel and the Modern Rogue always makes me feel like I’m just googling off along with these guys.

Leave a note in the card box or your shoe saying "Don't worry, I let you win the second game" in case they give you the King and do a grand reveal at the end - if they don't give you the King, just don't reveal the note! Great trick.

8:17 - this is my favorite part about Brian's videos. I watch all magicians so differently now. I pay more attention than ever to how they talk. It still doesn't cause me to figure out the tricks (and honestly, I prefer not to and to just enjoy it), but that adds a fun part of the show for me. Thinking about how the "lead the witness". Great video as always!!

It's kind of cool that there are 252 possible hands with this. It makes it feel like there's a decent amount of chance involved even though in reality it's just 126 different ways of getting fucked over by a magician.

uhm how did you get to that number there are 30240 options because you need to calculate one hand because the other hand gets the rest so 10*9*8*7*6=30240 if you keep the control of the poison card in mind there are 9*8*7*6=3024 ways you get screwed over by the magician

True. But it is simple to plan the idea (at that moment) that "You can even decide to SWITCH piles at any time". That sounds extra fair. If they do not accept the offer anytime during the process you simply EMPHASIZE it at the end. "Now that you have seen ALL the cards, you can swap the packets if you wish". In more than 99% of the cases they will want to make the change; being suspicious of your actions.

Or you could plan for this and have a kings at the bottom and bottom deal instead? And a different card will be the poison card

If the poison card is already marked you only have to shuffle it to the top using the markings. Someone might notice you moving it if your obviously looking through the cards then moving it to the top after having them shuffle it.

I assume you can scale up the number of cards total but still need a odd number of "threes" like 5, 7, 9 sets of 3 and the poison card would work?

Good question, i guess so, but then you need to mark 4 cards, maybe a good way to mark would be to as you put the cards down you bend a little the corner of the poison card, that dosen't give it away too much, but also has a risk of not working if the mark is lost :/

After stage 1, collect the cards and position the poison card 2nd from top. Give them the packet and say ok, your turn to deal....one to me one to you. That way they deal themselves the poison card.

I normally dont do this but this seems like a trick I learned earlier so I'm going to leave this comment no at 2:22 and see if I'm right this will be my scam school exam for me. I think there is one card you need to track which makes or breaks the hand and I think it is one of the eights.

Wow, this is a trip down memory lane.... Though to avoid marking a card, and to use a borrowed deck, you could put the king on the top of the pile in the last show. I noticed that my index finger tends to stick to it and so I'll finger the poison card before we begin.

OK, I just done this to a friend of mine and neither of us know anything about poker. This is the hand I delt him (k of clubs being the poison card, and yes it was the first one delt to him) HIS HAND: K of spades, Q of spades, J of spades, Q of hearts, and J of clubs. MY HAND: 8 of diamonds, spades, AND clubs, Q of diamonds, and J of hearts. It LOOKS like my friend won, with the poison card, is this right?

Friend has 2 pair, Qs & Js. You have three of a kind, 8s. 3 of a kind beats 2 pair in poker. From worst to best: High card. Pair. 2 pair. 3 of a kind. Straight. Flush. Full house. 4 of a kind. Straight flush. Royal flush (really this is just the highest possible straight flush).

What if the poison card is the king of spades, and 3 other card r queen of spades, jack of spades, and 10 of spades. Can they noy still win if they have the poison card AND the Q, J, and 10 of spades if the king of spades is the poison?

a poker hand is always to so just prep your deck with the then cards you want to use on tip deal out 5 cards for each of you and than put the rest of the deck away

I wouldn't ever recommend marking the card. If you're good enough to control a card to the top/bottom, you can just keep your eye on the card while spreading the cards over the table one by one
