I think they brought out the action 4 so fast because they realised the focus issues on the 3 was a mechanical problem that could not be fixed with software alone. I got a action 3 the other day here in australia brand new and i had to take it back the dreaded focus issue was there. I think the action 4 is damage control for DJI to be honest well at least this is what some of the big retailers told me.
I have a random question,I accidentally shot some footage in hupelapse,is it possible to convert to normal speed,also will the normal speed audio. Be available or is the footage practically useless and just has to be deleted,in mostly concerned with having the audio as top priority. I’m not sure how I even did that,and the footage is rather important,but I just need to find out. Very disappointing right now . I guess I need to use backup recording on the mic 2 transmitter as well just in case I have a situation like this. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

@@norie3096I don't think it is about batches i think they just released a huge amount of them and now have totally switched to the dji 4 cause they released it so fast and a lot of camera experts were saying the lens was not set properly in production on the action 3 because apparently it is a infinity lens.
@@silverpro8356 thanks for the reply. I ordered a DJI Osmo action 3 beg of July. It was out of stock on Amazon and I was supposed to get it in the next days ( end of this week). Last week I discovered that the action 4 would be released soon. So for sure will not keep the action 3. But I'm waiting for side by side comparison btw 3 and 4 to see if it 's a real upgrade. Or only a release to firefight the bad reviews on the 3 ( focus issues)
Almost perfect. If they can figure out how to smoothen out that little bit of artifacting / pixelation from the digital stabilization in 1080p when you're moving this camera will be unbeatable. Everything else looks on point.
I’m blown away by the well lit shots. Best image quality ever from an action camera. So good that it can be used for wide establishing shots in my professional projects. The lowlight is a step in the right direction but still doesn’t look that great in very dark scenarios! Sold my action 2 today and pre-ordered this bullock.
The audio sounds good but it would be nice for us DJI Mic users if the Action 4 also had a built in DJI Mic receiver since plugging one in via USB-C doesn't seem very action-friendly. It's an opportunity they inexplicably overlooked on the Ronin 4D even though its audio module was delayed nearly 2 years and it looks like they did it again.

Been waiting around for something to replace my gopro but up to now the gopro image quality is still better. Hope this will be the one because I'm dying to jump onto DJI action cams after experiencing their drones. Also really despise having to use gopro since they did the stuff with media mods etc effectively charging us $100 to connect a external mic.

Would you prefer this or the Insta 360 Go 3 for a family trip? I know Action 4 would give me much better quality footage but that form factor of the Insta360 GO 3 looks like it's going to be most enjoyable to use during a family trip

I have been dying to ditch gopro for years. hate them as a brand but their image quality so far still trumps dji. This could be the one that gets me to switch ..

If comparing against hero11, I would love to see exposure in bright sunny conditions. DJI goes with bigger sensor and more open aperture but I feel that the sky gets blown out easier. I just got a GND8 filter rigged on my action3 to help with that.

Damn. I just picked up a GoPro Hero 11 over the weekend cuz I couldnt find a DJI Action 3 anywhere and earliest ship dates are the end of the month. Just my luck the Action 4 drops only days later.q

Yes, Normal is good to go without needing to do anything. I, however, apply a few adjustments in post. But as this was a review I didn’t alter the Normal footage in this video.
Wish one of these Action camera companies would do a 1" Sensor F1.7 Lens like on their drones. It would be game, set, match. I know everyone will be comparing this to the GoPro 11 & 12, but the real competition is the iPhone 15 Pro. That said, this looks great.
Hi Tamara , i will be filming myself fishing , i will be on a seat box with a wireless mic and the camera on a tripod , i currently use a S22 with a wireless mic and the phone on a tripod . i operate the phone /Camera from a remote , my question is i was looking at the Action 4 but you mentioned that the 3 is more of a click and go camera than the 4 , so would the 3 be better for what i am using it for than the 4 ? It depends if you want to have a bit more control over the final output (the look) of the footage, if you’re not bothered then the 3 will likely be fine, otherwise I’d go for the 4.

I like your content good quality stuff, I been using the gopro hero black 7 for few years now but overheating and freezing too much I think I need a upgrade this look like it longer battery life and better low light

Sorry if I missed it but what is the minimum focus distance like compared to the action 3. Just not sure about getting this after all the lemons I got with the action 3 😂
You only need a gimbal if you’re planning on filming with a slow shutter speed when using ND filters or in low light because the shutter speed drops. In terms of how it is compared to the Pocket 2, keep an eye out I’ll share a comparison video soon 😊
After seeing noise reduction and sharpness level adjustmentablility, I instantly pulled the trigger on action 4 and the remote controller, I bought action 3 for twice but never can see my face clearly just because the extreme noise reduction builtin which can not be turned off, finally they are doing it right! Thanks for the video Tamara, even though this video is bribed by DJI with money/free device (correct me if I'm wrong), I still appreciated your video!!!

Thanks! I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. What was the temperature? And were you filming continuously in direct sunlight? That can play a part.
Yes it’s hot here, like 35 degree. I was filming for about 10min and it shot off due to overheating. I did a firmware update, changed setting to 2.7k and screens off. That seems to have helped 😅
In this video I had everything on Auto to make it easy for people to see the footage pretty much how it is out of the box. Though I set Sharpness and Noise Reduction to the minimum values.

Proper D-Log would be nice because Da Vinci Resolve doesn't have D-Log M as a colour space and I'm not great at the colour wheels. Still a great camera. I'm just going to treat the Normal colour mode as REC709, although I think it is a bit too contrasty. I love your review so much, I got one for myself :) Loving it so far!

Can you please tell me why not use Horizon balancing over Rocksteady plus? I don't understand its pros and cons; I can't really see a difference 😮 . Thx!!!!!!!
RockSteady+ is for enhanced stabilisation with a lot of shaky movement, HorizonBalancing is to keep the horizon level no matter if you rotate the camera left or right (+-45 degrees).
RU-vid really chews up this footage and adds a ton of artifacts during the stabilization clips. The road has a lot of pixelization. Yt needs to upgrade their video algo

As always great video ! I have a few questions : is it worth upgrading from the action 3 ? ( I have zero issues with it and dont shoot in low light ) Also do the batteries, cage etc interchange ? Should I upgrade or skip this time around ? thx in advance.
That video prompt feature is brilliant. After struggling to use the Insta360 Go 2 in a chest mount, I thought all action cameras should have this. Great video!
On the DJI did you set the white balance for each location or are you using like an auto white balance? Compared to gopro the colors just look a bit too cool sometimes.

Always appreciate what you focus on with these cameras for more filmmaking-minded creators. Does the auto low light mode set a minimum shutter angle (like GoPro Labs firmware does)? Still looked like a bit of telltale jello in the stabilization in that mode and made me once again be grateful for the Pocket 2. Please give us a Pocket 3 DJI. I've resorted to using the Mini 3 Pro in its place as an action camera lol.

Do we really need to put tempered glass to protect the screen and lens? I bought action 4 recently and the shop ask me to install one. I didn't install because I am not sure about it. Can you advice me?
I wouldn’t have thought it would be necessary. The front lens element is removable so if for any reason it got damaged then you could replace it. Otherwise you could also get a UV filter and put that over the front. What will you be using the camera for?
Wow, your Action 4 videos like this one are so good! If I was in the UK I would hire you just to get 1-on-1 training and walk with you for 1-hr sessions as consultant and student. I'm still blown away by your tip in another video to be aware that stepping into a low light situation requires you to stop and restart recording to engage the Low Light Enhancement feature. Who woulda thought?! And I have not seen that important tip by any other YT content creators. If you ever have a reason to be in Dallas Texas you have an 8-hr contract, 4 hrs talking head & post edit, 4-hrs outdoors vlogging. Really. I'm starting with your suggested "Change one Setting..." settings: Do they work as well in the home studio with lighting as with outdoor vlogging? IOW, in this video were your indoor settings the same as your outdoor settings? Thank you
Thanks. I'll share a video soon about the settings I find work well for a home studio setup with controlled lighting. But in this video, for the talking head shots indoors, I was filming with my Sony A7s III.
This looks much better than the 3 did. This review might be one of your best. I have my eye on this and some good filters to go with it. I was testing my Freewell Mega kit for the DJI Mini 3 Pro yesterday and the LPR filter at night made a dramatic difference. I didn't even need your LUTS or any corrections in the final edit.
Ayup Tamara thanks so much. I’m on the brink of the Action 3 because I figured there’d be a good deal on it now. However this action 4 looks awesome and the bigger sensor is a pull and the mics and sound may be the clincher. I’m still on the action 1 and it’s feeling it’s age. I use it daily for 2 years solid. But I’m seeing limitations in the mics now and the faff of the extra module to use an external mic is a nuisance for me. I’ve always appreciated your honesty and I look forward to all the footage from you over the next few weeks! Regards Darren

Thank you for showing a lot of sample footage. Camera looks great. The low light enhancement didn't look much better than previous versions, but looking forward to the sharpness setting. Focus also looks good at arms length.
