I have to agree with everyone here. This is such a fantastic video. The locations, information and editing is absolutely top notch. Possibly the greatest video you have done. I have thought for years the Action Cam would be the ideal camera for vloggin. I was looking at the Go Pro, but read about so many quality issues. I am glad I did not rush on the Go Pro and came across this video. I was already set on the DJI, but this video cemented my decision. THANKS!
I just got the OA4 after using GoPros for a long time. I am just fed up of the lack of mic support on the GoPro. Having to use a mic adapter, and a cage, and an audio cable when the camera has a USB c port and the mic adapter even has a USB c port, is just insane. Now I can plug my DJI Mic set direct into the DJI OA4 and I have a much smaller set up that achieves the same thing. I also got a bit fed up with having to pull the battery out to unfreeze the GoPros, they have all had that issue in my experience since the 7. I have the 7, 9 and 11 and they all freeze up randomly causing you to miss action.
Around the 08:30 - 08:50 ish mark.... I can't tell if you're in focus... The background looks crisp but you don't... I'm sure this was also an issue with the 3.
just bought the action 3 and a day later Action 4 comes out. Not too upset at the Action 3 is amazing too!! I have fallen inlove with the ease of use, no faffing ( im with you there) and the quality from the action 3 and im sure the Action 4 is the same, and it makes me want to use it more and more. So long GoPro.
Agreed! - Since i got my Action 4, i have switch to using that as my vlogging camera as well. Just not being bogged down with extra weight or a mirrorless and lens combo and so welcome. Still working on best audio option and am using ehat i have. I figure I might the DJI mic int he future as ultra small vlog solution.
Low light and audio improvement but I’m still happy with the performance of my 3, great kit, I’ll move up to the 4 next time. Use mine for motorcycle trips and walking, perfect for holidays….
Thanks again Mark your reviews are brilliant. Bought this for an upcoming trip to Las Vegas. Wanted the pocket three but couldn’t get in time for my flight Tuesday and it’s nowhere in stock, even for pick up in Las Vegas. For what I’ve seen this is going to fill in nicely. Beside I ride a Harley and want to get some video on some rides
I recently purchased the Osmo Action 3 and it has been great for me. What I also love is that charging pack. I have used it to charge my phone during two extended power outages. I am going to check out those ND filters.
Great review in fact this might be the only review that doesn’t compare the Osmo action 4 To the GoPro hero 11 black which I don’t understand it’s a one year old camera to compare it against. Though I’d really like to see a comparison against the Osmo action 3. Which I have and love that without a comparison video it’s hard to decide whether to bother with updating it. Thanks for the great review all the same
Just to prove I was listening, you said it has the same long life battery as the Action 4, which is a verbal typo, meaning 3? Amazing quality. Have ordered this morning, and it will join the Action 3.
A little bit off putting that the low light image jitter is still there 7:27, meaning one can't use the 180 degree shutter speed for 24fps, that's one the main reason I returned the action 3, but I'll check it by myself.
Sorry if this is an ignorant question but I only use a camera during our family trips. If I record using a camera like this, can I lift specific frames as photos?
Great video but surprised, given this is specifically a vlogging review, you didn't look at the special "vlogging combo" edition (it adds two DJI transmitters - one of which nicely fits the side of the Action camera - and a receiver). As usual the accessories seem to be a confusig mess. No mention of the ND Filter set you mention anywhere in the main or any other ancillary accessory page. Total confusion over the extension rod vs the mini-extension rod both of which are the same price but with the only visibile differentiator being the weight.
I'm looking at getting this camera for use on my motorbike & a trip round the North Coast 500. Would you recommend getting this camera or one of the insta360 cameras?
As the owner of a GoPro 7, 8 ,9, 2x 11’s and now an action 4. DJI have taken the crown. It’s great. No more GoPros for now until they up their game and stop repackaging same old stuff and the fact they could give the 11’s the firmware upgrades from the 12 just shows the greed of GoPro.
Super interesting video, did you try the invisible stick option? What postediting did you make to the videos? Or is the quality we see here the one we get from the camera itself (not sure i'm very clear :p )
@@MarkEllisReviews waw it seems really like an awesome vlogging camera! Did you try the dji pocket 2? How would you compare them? Do you plan on trying the invisible stick?
The answers I got is yes that and the SmallRig cage will fit. The only thing that appears not to work are the ND filters, different thread or attachment. Look forward to mine arriving and seeing how much of this is true.
I don't know about the low light capability/ Bought the OA4 today, to replace my disappointing OA1, and tried it at night with my motorbike, in all the settings. The stadyshot, super steady, horizon balancing and another horizon balancing setting, in 4K 2.7k, 1080p, hyperlapse, limiting iso to 800 or 12800, in all those settings, the footage was way to shaky, blurry and unusable. I've tried it in the living room as well, with bright lights' although not daylight, and the image was pretty blurry. I am really disappointed with it's "famed" low light capabilities. I am yet to try it in daylight, I am pretty sure it'll be better, but the hype around the low light capabilities, from first try, is way exaggerated.
You must spend a ton of time placing the camera, going back a bit, walking past the camera, walking back to the camera, picking up the camera and checking that the footage of your walking past it is satisfactory.
Very good, if you find this picture quality good, I think you should stop shooting video, it's not for you. You could use a camera phone and not notice the difference.
I have a first generation Osmo Action Camera and the adapter for the audio fits "somewhat loosely" into the side of the camera. Unfortunately, sometimes it gets a wee-bit loose and then the mic no longer works. Thus, when I'm using it, I have to squeeze the mic to the camera and make sure I see the little mic icon before I start talking. Frustrating. Does this new Action 4 have that same issue? Does the mic adapter stay in place despite (for example) riding a bike over rough roads? In a perfect world, you wouldn't need an adapter...the camera's own mic would be enough.
thx a lot for that video. I am really surprised about the audio quality. What I do not like that much is the video stabilization with Osmo Action 4, because if it gets darker suddenly the picture falls apart. (and much earlier than a Go Pro does)
Where is the part saying that user MUST USE PHONE APP TO ACTIVATE THIS CAMERA?! This is violation of freedom 0 of the user - freedom of use. Apparently all those "reviewers" were paid not to mention this IMPORTANT detail.
I wasn't paid by DJI to "not mention" a detail, mate. I found out about this just like everyone else (when setting up the camera) and, clearly, it was such an insignificant detail for me I didn't mention it in the video.
