Today we take a look at the unseen areas of the Chateau de Puyvidal: the garden, classified by the French government as a remarkable garden of France, the unrenovated wing and the incredible outbuildings...
Julia's dream chateau came up for sale during the pandemic, but she couldn't travel from America to see it in person! So she asked me to tour it for her, and to send her a video. I put together a chateau-hunting dream team, and went with Philip (the Sherlock Holmes of architectural details) and Davy (garden designer and great problem spotter & solver) to visit the Renaissance Chateau de Puyvidal.
This is an edited version of the video that we sent to Julia, which led to her and her family putting in an offer the very next day!

I love the idea of restoring the chapel. Even if one is un religious, the last year has taught having a place that is dedicated to calm and peace is something so precious. And very respectful of the building.

Agreed. I love checking out listings for chateaux, maison de maitre, etc. But being in Canada, I can’t see them in person. As I get closer to retirement I’m also getting closer to buying one and moving for keeps. So I’d love someone to do this for me.

She made remark about how many contact her and how many there looking for chateaux. She makes it look wonderful... with out you tube or income, it has to be hard to maintain unless insulated and heated. water plumbing etc roof all good... I am losing interest in the buyers vlog cause they wont be there for a long time yet.

This is one of the most beautiful places imaginable. I can tell the previous owners really cared for it exceptionally well. I do hope the new owners understand how much money and time it is going to take to maintain this place. The costs will be staggering and this is a HUGE undertaking. This place in the wrong hands will fall to ruin and I would hate to see such a stunning Chateau be lost.

I would LOVE to see you get someone to groom your trees and forest areas at LaLande Stephanie. There is nothing more beautiful than cared for trees with cleared trunks, and freed of unhealthy, and/or dangerous branches... and keeping the ground cleared in the forest areas helps so much in case of a spark gone astray. There is an art to clearing out trees, so that the more beautiful trees can thrive with great health and shine.

Nick and Son are their super tree man/team. See the big tree removal Vlogs of the past. A long term plan is in place for the forest trees and Davy can have the new trees in garden and yard planted this fall.

The chateau is incredibly well maintained, must cost a fortune to do this , just to keep up with the gardens , the pool, heat the place and pay the taxes. Regardless of the on going deep pockets required to own this place , it’s a dream if you can manage it all. The forest and the meadow and stream would complete the property.

It’s absolutely stunning. I can’t imagine the resources it will take just to do the upkeep on it. I’m glad it’s not overly modern. I really hate when people make them bland and boring!

My thoughts exactly. Saw you commented somewhere that you bought a house in Puglia? As much as I adore Chateaux in France I love Italy with a passion! Minimum of five. Two for aII gardens, one for hand mowing and trimming, one for riding mower/tractor and one to manage and do maintenance. Add horses more heIp.

This chateau and its grounds are stunningly gorgeous! For the new owners, what a happy find and a wonderful place to call their new home. For the sellers....I wonder if they feel some sadness, selling their home? When our family ranch got sold after my father's death, I actually mourned for several years. But alas, new owners can be a blessing in their own way to a property! LOVED the tour!

It's a very beautiful chateau and amazing out door space, but it looks like too large and complicated to maintain to be enjoyed properly, you'll need an army of employees keeping that place in good shape, and those gardens...I can only imagine the amount of work that takes to keep those edges trimmed and the topiaries in shape, and the lawn ....

Besides Lalande, this is the only place I've seen on TCD that I'd want to actually live in. The decor, architectural details and out buildings - icing on the cake, cherry on the top. I'd happily rent the second apartment just as a away from home base during winters in Michigan.

A pool, a summer kitchen...gee....nothing to want for. Someone said they found it on a realtors listing and it sold for 1.5 mil including most furnishings. Someone else said 2.2 mil.. Anyone know "about" how much it sold for. It's well worth the 2.2 imo

This is so very awesome! The view from the courtyard up to the facade of the building reminded me of when I toured a manor home once. The future owner had my place a yellow sticky note on every window I looked out of. Then when we got down to the front courtyard and looked up, the windows with no sticky notes were the rooms the estate agent did not show up. So UP we went back! LOL As it turned out, two of the 3 rooms missed, had major issues so it was a sneaky sneak thing the agent had done. I am SOOOO looking forward to the new series! AND, looking forward to more videos of your chapel. I would love to know if any former residents were buried on the property. I am not being macabre, its just in the past wealthy families had family cemetery or vaults. Are anyone buried or memorialized in the chapel? Thank you!
