Thank you for sharing. My family moved to Cavalier in 1972, when my father a GE Electric Engineer worked at the PAR sight for 2 years. We lived in the “complex” on Bjornson Drive. I have wonderful fun memories of Cavalier. My first job at the Chuck Wagon, my drivers permit at age 14, ice skating on the Tongue River, swimming in the public park pool and all the high school football basketball games, pep rally’s etc.are just a few...We even adopted a sweet little puppy from a friend and named her Daisy. Kind Regards. 😊
That's terrific and I'm envious. I was born in 1971 & served 5 years in the Navy from 1990-1995. As a 50 yr old living in NJ - I hate how they've ruined the U.S. I've always felt like I should have lived/grown up in the 1950's - 1970's. It must have been a fun, exciting time to live in that type of community in ND.
Great video! I'm retired Air Force and was the Base Civil Engineer at Grand Forks AFB from 1995 to 1997. At that time, Cavalier was (and still is) active. The Stanley R. Mickelsen Safeguard Missile Site was in Army caretaker status. We provided support to both sites. I visited the Mickelsen Safeguard Site a couple of times, but never got to Cavalier. The Safeguard Site looks like something out of this world. I often wondered what someone would think if they came upon it without knowing it was there. My assignment to Grand Forks was, hands down, my favorite assignment in my 20-year Air Force career. ...Great people, a great base, and a great mission!
You are very lucky. Sounds like it was a great time. I enjoyed my 5 yrs in the Navy from 1990-1995 being home based at NAS Brunswick, ME. It was great living there & was always sad when it was time to go on a 6 month deployment. I always wanted to go to Loring, AFB to practice touch & go's but never did. The two great military bases in ME are closed & long gone. So sad.
As a kid who grew up in North Dakota then, it is neat to see video of my dads office building in Grand Forks as well as the bank that i have an account at to this day. Shortly after the Nekoma site closed my dad took my siblings and i to see it. 1976? Amused they did not mentiin the negative 30 degree temperatures.
