RETRO is the new black is a retro channel for retro enthusiasts. The channel features retro computers, game consoles and gadgets from the 1970, 1980 and 1990s as well as new tech for old machines. The videos range from simple unboxing to repairs and sometimes even the creation of new things.
I try to upload two videos a week (one smaller QUICK SHOT video and one longer main Video).
Some machines featured in my (upcoming) videos are: Commodore PET, Commodore C64, Commodore VIC 20 (VC20), Atari 800XL, Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, Amstrad (Schneider) CPC, IBM PCs, Apple IIe, Apple Macintosh, Amiga 3000, Amiga 2000 and many more.

I wonder what the price of the extra 64k was at that time to make it worthwhile to market a different model.

It might not be a (current) Apple price difference for more memory, but I think it would have been about $100 back then. So that was significant enough.

I have both an Atari 800xl and 130xe. Unfortunately, the 130xe isn't currently working, and life has gotten in the way of getting it repaired.

I made a A8pico and used the available case online to print and it fit my xe. I got a 65xe new old stock a few years ago. I had the 800xl as a kid and always wanted it again. Love this system. I check RU-vid every once in a while for Atari videos and came across this. Thanks for keeping them alive.

Jan hat ja "nur" eine 320 kB Erweiterung versucht, 512 kB ist da ja eine etwas andere Geschichte. Ich habe die AVG Cart mit 512 kB und war auch so wahnsinnig, mir die U1MB einzubauen (die 1MB habe ich bislang bei keiner sinnvollen Software benötigt, ok, Atariblast Demo, cool, aber dafür 1 MB...?). Die 512 sind aber absolut cool, weil man da mit PDM Audio und Phaerons Video Playback "herumspielen" kann, ja, Falschfarben Fullscreen Videowiedergabe in 16 fps (!), aber PDM ist schon beeindruckend, damit kann man sogar mp3 umcoden und auf dem XL oder XE in wirklich annehmbarer Qualität (44kHz in 8bit mono) abspielen. Und natürlich einige nette Demos kann man abspielen, die brauchen aber sehr häufig ohnehin nur 128 kb , seltener 320kB und nur in Einzelfall 512 kB...

Ahh ok. Hatte irgendwie 512 in Erinnerung. Dann habe ich ja vielleicht bessere Chancen ;-) Natürlich ist das Overkill und (nahezu) völlig nutzlos ... aber was von all dem hier macht schon Sinn?!?

Atariblast Vollversion als ML-File benötigt 1MB RAM, die Cart-Version nur 16K RAM; PDM läuft auch auf 64K Computern mit 44khz mono oder 22 khz stereo; AVF läuft auf 64k Computern mit bis zu 509k/sec. und unter NTSC mit 60fps, unter PAL mit 50fps video+audio (natürlich ohne Kompression, denn das Dekomprimieren würde zu lange dauern); ein Bild hat ca. 8k, d.h. bei NTSC gehen 480k für eine Sekunde drauf, bei PAL 400k. PDM und AVF werden nicht ins RAM geladen, sondern nur gestreamt, PDM via Pokey, AVF via Antic. Phaeron ist Autor von Altirra und Virtualdub, kennt sich also mit Audio, Video und Atari sehr gut aus.
