An Eastern Market (1928) - filmed in Rawalpindi 

Nearly 90 years ago my dear mother was born in Rawalpindi. She died ten days ago. Fascinating for me to watch this now.

This made me crying almost on every scene that was filmed i saw it repeatedly , I wish i were there too. at least that era was quite clear to breathe, easier to be with friends and purity of everything ..!!

My great grandfather had a shop in Rawalpindi before the partition.

As an Indian, lived in Islamabad 1991-95. My father was born in Arya Mohalla. My favourite was Raja Bazaar, seeking Guchhi and Dheengri. Best quality in world. I could spot likes of Raja Bazaar here... Good luck to all in Rawalpindi. Salute to Gordon College. Regards...

Days without plastic and pollution

Bhagat Singh , asfakulla Khan, Chandrasekhar Azad , Rajguru, Sukdev sab ek sath lare the Bharat ko azad karne ke liye , par unhone kabhi Nehi socha tha ki doh desh ban jayega.

In those days people were having very less facilities like no electricity, no bike, no buses and cars, no phone, no refrigerator, no fan, no water supply, no roads and no pizza burger but one thing definitely they had was the peace of mind and religious harmony. They were quite satisfied with a few facilities, a very few pocket money and kachha houses but relations were very much pakka.

Just few decades ago it was india(what a huge country). Hindus and Muslims were living together as shown in this video. But due to dirty politics of nehru and jinnah this great country got divided. In today's world it would be a most powerful country if it had remained united. What a hell these leaders has done.

British took whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted as long as they could and we are fighting like fools.

While the Brits were sitting in Pindi Cantonment briefing room and planning to induce another famine and drafting another policy to sow seeds of discord on religious lines between Indians.

even in 1960 Rawalpindi was a town and village like. i lived that time in Rawalpindi. Amarpura was just like a village.

Where all people of Indian origin living together of all faiths. Respecting each other. That's how it should be now!

As a child I was engaged to the son of my father's close friend from Peshawar. Those were the days of plenty. Dry fruits, velvet, silk and gemstones. We lived in Rawalpindi in a house that is now Lodhi Hotel I'm told.

I’ve lived in Rawalpindi basically all my life and it amazes how much change this city has witnessed. I recognize the old buildings of general bazaar (although we don’t call it generall bazaar now) and the mosque,I’ve prayed there once.

The irony is they are making the claim on a clip that shows Muslims in Muslim garments, arguably there is one Hindu, around 5.46 and one Sikh, around 6.15, in the clip. The rest I'm sorry to say look Muslim by dress.

I think Hindu temple in Rawalpindi was destroyed and there are some remains of temple still exist in raja bazar.

The movements of the people in this video looks unreal for 1928. It is smooth like any modern camera. I doubt if this was really shot in 1928.

I am a resident of Rawalpindi city now its the fourth populated city in Pakistan, every thing has changed the lifestyle , the city , the people. The beautiful Jamia masjid is still situated in the middle of the city and a most crowded bazar as well near by still serves to be as the cities busiest market place.

Life was so simple and un complicated. Really nice to watch something old that existed in history.

Golden days passed without being felt. Overpopulation and its aftereffects now wrenching the human life from throat. Pollution, plastic, adultration, dust, dearness, affluence overnight all has weekened the bond of humanity among people and different faiths. Darkness ahead.

By birth, I am from Rawalpindi. My family moved from there when I was just one. Despite of the traffic jam, pollution etc, I love this city..

Before 47, it looks reasonable Hindu community was there. Where it disappear.

That time was great era of living people. Simple and caring life. !!!!!

We as people should also do our fair part to keep things good instead of always depending on governments. Because the government culture is first people in the governments (specially in Pakistan) are corrupt with no exceptions of any political party or Military dictatorship. In the west common people not only pay their tax honestly but they also participate in keeping things in order. A simple example is people throw their garbage in the garbage cans. Those garbage cans are provided by property, business owners, parks, schools, hospitals. This is the culture that some of these things are available everywhere i.e. Bathrooms/Restrooms/latrines and garbage cans almost everywhere. If you go to a restaurant or any other store they have these things available for the public and free. Do we have those things in Pakistan and other neighboring countries? Answer is No. Then who should be blame? I think we need include these things in education. Kids are taught what should go in the garbage and what should go in the recycle bin in the schools in the US. The result is it is clean everywhere. I dont thing if we can find that much garbage sitting here and there in the entire country like US as much it could be seen just in one city Rawalpindi. We need to educate our politicians as well. But generally it will come with the education. The interesting thing is cleanliness is part of the faith in Islam and everyone hears and reads this but no one practice it. We have another bad culture to have peons in offices and drivers for any low level office in almost all the government organizations and this is considered such a shame to do any work by your hand if you are a person who works sitting on the chair. In the US a big person holding the position of CEO will do their own work i.e. they will go and get their coffee, water and meal for themselves. But in country like Pakistan this is just not possible. A Pakistani engineer of any level will never touch their work with their hands as they dont have culture of working by themselves and wear work dress at the site but they will be dressed with three piece suit or ironed shalwar qameez. Well there is whole allot but I am going to stop here as the message is getting so long. I probably should write blog instead. Short story is we as a nation have to change to have a good change which wont take too long may be one or two generations...
