What’s worked for me is just taking a pair of pliers to the top edge and just giving a good crunch and yank. It will break off a piece fairly easily but I’d also recommend some eye protection.
I tried a few different ways that did work, but the splinters flying everywhere was a pain. The drill is the only way I can find that avoids this, for the most part
Have you seen the few videos on books becoming damaged in these new cases due to the case being warped giving the book creases and spine ticks? people suspect the new way of sealing the case may be the cause. People weren't happy about it as CGC told them it's not a mechanical error and within tolerance. However you can end up with a book graded at 9.8 that is clearly lower than that.
Yes, I've seen it but I think it adds a slight bend to the book, not sure if it would lay flat again perfectly once removed. It's definitely concerning, I may be publishing a video about it
Have you noticed any warping/bending on the inner well on these newer slabs? This seems to be an issue with the way cgc is sealing books now. It’s been discussed on FB groups and other forums as well as vids being made.
I am going to inspect my latest submissions more closely, and if I see anything I'll do a video on it. I just watched those videos you mentioned and am concerned. Kinda scared right now :(
@@ImproveCollectingComics Yah, I have about a dozen raw books I want to get graded but I’m thinking of holding off right now until they correct this problem. Hopefully if enough people complain cgc will actually do something!
That works but I have always looked at grading comics as a scam. There was some comic pressing company that just got arrested cause they where stealing everyone's books and sealing them online so I don't trust anyone.
Having comics professionally graded is just a tool to help buyers make better and safer buying decisions. No matter what you hear, read, or what someone tells you, 99%+ of the time they do a good job. We only tend to hear about the 1% oops stories. And most of the mistakes are mechanical errors or human error. Of course, there's the human element of grading, (Loose Larry vs. Harsh Harry) Oh, and I think that was Heroes Restoration that turned out to be a thief
