This was an editorial photoshoot for the winter issue of Nobleman Magazine. Braedon Flynn - Film Supply Club founder, was the photographer for the shoot and he gives us a behind-the-scenes look on his process, working with the team.
Braedon walks you through location scouting, showing different cameras he's shooting with and the results.
In this video, Braedon mostly shoots a Contax 645 medium format camera as well as a Pentax 67 with the 105mm lens (links below). Films Shot are Kodak Portra 800 and Kodak Portra 400 in 120 formats.

80mm on the Contax. 63mm on the GFX. For the still life images, those were all me, no stylist involved. Just something I do and am encouraging you do to when on a shoot.

Very informative on technique and ideas on promoting. You mentioned to post images that could lead to one being hired.... Not very familiar with social media, so what would you advise to post onto, or should one get a website? Many thanks, Mark.

Hey Mark. Good questions. It really depends if you're trying to get hired and by who. A website is definitely recommended. But posting on Instagram is one of the main recommended places you should also be posting. It's like a modern day, 2nd portfolio.

110% - film for the win. A lot of commercial gigs need film next day but I still shoot film for my own work because it typically is better.

Great shoot. In regards to location scouting... are you in charge or does the agency/client provide you a list? 50/50 , 90/10? Would love to see a sample breakdown of what your invoice looks like.

For something like this, they had the location as Nobu Hotels is an advertiser in the magazine and they wanted to feature the property. BUT, once there, all of the location scouting was up to me. I could confirm with them but ultimately I was in control of where we were shooting what. I also coordinated the locations with the stylist so we could choose the right outfit for each spot. Feel free to ask more questions if you have them.

For the invoice, it is generally a day rate. Often film is just something I shoot and I assume that cost within my day rate or other times I will add that as a separate expense: Film + Processing or if there's travel expeses, things like that.

@@FilmSupplyClub Thank you for the response. Question... life happens. Great communication is key but if there is a no show mua, stylist and show can't go on...dou you have insurance for these types of incidents? Any tips to amend the relationship?
