I normally cringe at scarf joints, but that is one beautiful and complex build. Nice Chris Squire-type bass at 18mins too. 👍

Nice build Dave, it’s nice to see that you do must of the build by hand, I see so many doing builds with cnc routers. Keep up the good work.

This hasn't been an easy-straightforward build by any means. But you have overcome all the difficulties that it's thrown at you admirably. I think this is your best build to date and you get my vote. You must be very proud of this beautiful instrument!

Thank you! It’s only when you put these full build videos together that you realise all the bits that go into making the guitar. I always appreciate your comments and advice and although I’m supporting my friends in the #jurgscup I’m not wanting to be in the voting, the challenge for me is to make the thing. All the best, cheers Dave

Dave, (as I have said before) that’s ace. Loved this build and the aesthetics are spot on, the headstock and the body curves. You’ve inspired me to have a crack at a bass after I (eventually) finish my Jurgs build. With split post tuners I cut the strings to the next post along, pop the end down the shaft and wind. Locks them in tight and no sharp edges. I realise I’m probably telling you how to suck eggs, but someone may find that useful 😂

@DaveDickens I keep having to go back and change things that worked OK at the time but don't work now. All things to consider on the next build.

It’s an awesome guitar, sometimes these things take a while but hang in there! Oh and I always get to the end of a build and think, this is no good, there’s a bodge here and a bodge there. The thing is once it’s all strung up all those things just disappear. Cheers Dave

its a beautifully made basguitar , just wonder if it balance out hanging from a guitarstrap , with all the weight removed from the back part of the body i immagine that the neck want to keep dropping down might be able to counter it by casting a lead block(s) that are small enough to feed intoo the body through the opening of the rear pickup and somehow use the screw of the rear strap button to tie it to the back of the body
@DaveDickens
@DaveDickens 3 месяца назад
You are right it does suffer from neck dive. The total weight is 3kg about .6kg lighter than a typical Fender P Bass. I mainly use this in my home studio so the balance is not really an issue but your suggestion is a great idea. Thank you. Cheers Dave

@@DaveDickens its a pitty you didnt test it before gluing on the top wouldve been eazier to counterweight it , another option wouldve been to extend the top horn in the buildphase but that wouldve drasticly changed the overall look of the bas
@DaveDickens
@DaveDickens 3 месяца назад
@@watahyahknowfair point and something to remember for the future. I did want to create a light guitar but of course a long neck bass is bound to be neck heavy. I suppose another approach would be to put the strap peg on the back of the neck. Ah well it plays nice so that’s all good. Thanks. Cheers Dave
