Hi there and welcome back to something a little different this week.
A staycation with the family gave me the opportunity to take a look at some of the electrics in this beautiful house from the late 18th century.
Although we had the house and grounds all to ourselves for obvious reasons I didn't go around dismantling every fitting and accessory and certain parts of the house weren't filmed.
A quick run around the place shows some reasonably modern electrics along with various vintage type switches and stunning light fittings.
We're full on smack bang in the middle of the Welsh countryside on this one so listen out for a plethora of wildlife. I personally loved it and could listen to it all day.

It reminds me of when we went to the "costa del sol" in the South of Spain for vacation. My 1960s appartment to this day makes do with two 16 A circuits while the 1970s house I grew up in had a whopping four (now five). Both use gas for heating, hot water and hob. In the house in Spain everything was electric, and when I opened up the DB, I was greeted by, I think, 16 MCBs or RCBOs ( I don't remember the specifics). The resort we stayed at had transformer houses on the premises that would have supplied entire neighbourhoods where I live. What keeps amazing me is all the different locaions in a house in the UK you can find CUs and DBs in. I'm used to finding those in a dedicated area within 3 m from the front door.

In the UK we can only really fit a DB or CU wherever the intake comes in the house.

So you actually learnt about Tudor Life we had something similar in North Yorkshire I can remember doing a whole day living like a Tudor so traditional Tudor meals clothes, work, it was interesting but limited.

Impressive big house. When you opened that door with the consumer units I thought there may have been a 3 phase supply or 2 main fuses 80 or 100 amp each .I was surprised to see 1 single phase supply in a house of that size,but it looks like it is suitable .I saw a video of Dan's the engineer where he went on holiday and he did the same as you,checking the consumer unit in his holiday let and Jordan from artisan electrics left his room with an amazing sea view to go into the cellar and show us the distribution board and meter 😀. Enjoy your holiday,looks like a fantastic place

Hi Alan, I was surprised myself to see the boards in that particular layout. When you go places especially homes like this you can't help but put your EICR eye on everything and scrutinise it all. It was a fantastic place and we loved it. When we got home our eldest said "why can't we live in that big house with phesents in the garden forever?" (She's 4)

Thank you James, I enjoyed that, did you get a discount for doing a visual inspection for them? 😊.... I thought you might take a look at the earthing arrrangements for some of those Class 1 lamps as those fancy Next/John Lewis/ M&S ones are often not right. I thought your drone footage was very good as well, what model is it and was it difficult to get your licence to fly it?

Hi Olly, like I said previously I'd like to have done a full EICR on the place and put it up for everyone to see. I didn't want to get too involved with dismantling things incase I made anything worse (trust me that happens sometimes) the drone is a dji phantom and is usually over my shoulder in a couple of my recent videos. It's not difficult to get a license just a process of learning the laws and applying. It's done online.

🤣👌. This place might take more than a day. In fact I'd absolutely love to carry out a full EICR here. Might take me a few weeks? Ah well guess I could just live on site? 🤓🤘
