Traditionally cave rescues have been managed using a T card board along with a hand written incident log.
This system has stood the test of time. So why change anything?
The aims behind the development of an electronic system were:
* To provide more information on the T card board to aid decision making, such as the time that the incident as been running, deployment times for individuals and the length of time that each team has been deployed.
* Secondly, to integrate the T card Board and Incident Log so that deployment decisions taken on the T Card Board are automatically recorded in the Incident Log.
* And finally to create a system that is simple and quick to operate.
The system was developed in Microsoft Excel, as much of the functionality that was required was already available using Excel functions and formulae. Additional functionality was added using VBA code.
It has 3 main components or worksheets:
* The T Card Board.
* A sheet for managing resources, that is personnel and equipment.
* And the Incident Log.

Excellent work. It demonstrates how far we have come from the days when someone had to ring round a group of caving friends asking for help to rescue someone in trouble underground.

Thank you. Much of the recent development was triggered by the 54 hour rescue of OFD when volunteers were called upon to undertake multiple shifts and needed to rest in-between.

@@CaverKeith Thanks Keith, a very impressive bit of software that must have similarities to e.g. UK Ambulance service. Although looking at the current NHS I wonder if people like you could do a better job of software for the NHS but suspect that you haven't the time or the inclination to lose all your caving time!

how come you dont use SARMAN?

As far as I am aware SARMAN is more about GPS tracking which is not relevant to underground search and rescue.
