After saving the world twice, I think we can all agree our main cast deserved their own theme's. Thanks Mason, and Chuck for these amazing compositions!
Well, he is a pilot at least. We can assume Wayne flies the ship since you have to stop the ship to wander around and interact with the party as Wayne.
Y'know what, I'll say it. Chuck MUST'VE known what he was doing while making this. Certain parts of this song have that stereotypically "sexy" sound of guitar. WAYNE IS THE EPITOME OF COOL DUDE. LEATHER JACKET, GUITAR, SOMETIMES EVEN SUNGLASSES. this guy is MEANT to make you jealous.
Such a strange feeling this song gives me. It gives me the image of Wayne just wanting to relax at home watching TV or jamming on a guitar, but has to go and save the world as a chore. Least the journey is with friends.
I love that this song is named An Endless Cycle. It's pretty well known by now that the game, or at least the dynamic between Wayne and Gibby, is a metaphor for the cycles of the moon. Wayne representing a waning crescent, and Gibby representing a waning gibbous. It's made clear in both their head shapes and their names. Judging by the sort of colony of Wayne "clones" in the beginning of Hylics 2, the idea of multiple Gibbys being out there as well isn't too farfetched. Maybe the pattern of a Gibby taking the throne and a Wayne overthrowing him really is An Endless Cycle.
Yeah... Of Waynes becoming Old Waynes', maybe Decreses are involved too, of an Afterlife you can always leave (I think), of Gibbies straying away from the path of righteousness and stuff... Like, I can't help but wonder if Gibby is of the same species as Wayne and Decres. He's gotta be, right?
Mason Lindroth: it's just a silly trippy RPG, no need to go too over the top. Chuck Salamone about to drop the hottest, most crispy and ear orgasmic soundtrack for no fucking reason:
LITERALLY. There are some parts of this song that made me STOP BREATHING because of how good they are. I almost wish the music was WORSE for this game bc it's quite literally TOO GOOD.
Understanding that Wayne of the second game is not the same as the first, it is strange that only a Wayne is the one who will face everything accompanied by friends of another Wayne, the truth I still do not understand because I am a Wayne who takes care of everything.
The names for the other characters themes are more blatant but this one Is in reference to how the Wayne’s seem to be infinitely propagating themselves into a species at the Wayne house
Probably also ties into the underlying theme of the games being about the lunar cycle. The antagonist is representative of a gibbous moon and Wayne is the embodiment of a waning moon both in design and name
There's also this concept of Wayne's as protectors living in a violent world where they kinda gotta go out and fight and die and be reborn in the afterlife day after day. This interpretation was put forwards quite heavily in the discussion
To die and reincarnate for all of eternity, constantly waning but never new. This is a goddamn excellent theme for Wayne! I'm so happy to finally hear the wild jammage that you and Chuck crafted together! Love how confident the music starts out, what with that wailing guitar, only for it to be overtaken by distortion over and over again yet still retain that steady initial beat throughout. Also I can hear a call back to "Fancy Meat Computer" and "Look Ma, I Fly Now!" at about 1:46 in. It could be merely a reference to the persistent rivalry between Wayne and Gibby, or maybe, just maybe, the two do have some things in common with one another after all...
“To die and reincarnate for all of eternity, constantly waning but never new.” i don’t know if you came up with that yourself or got it from somewhere else, but either way it’s a sentence i’ve been thinking about for the last 12 hours. incredibly powerful.
Oh sweet lord. Chills right down the spine from the second the guitar kicked in. Chuck nailed the tone and dialing on the guitars. There’s a marvelous, dissonant, chaotic, alien tone to this track that really shines among even the more dynamic tracks these two have constructed. I think these theme tracks convey the flavor and character of their tracks marvelously well. They sound like the character personalized through song and it’s such a charming realization of these delightfully mysterious and lovable characters through one of Hylics’ strongest points; immaculate vibes.
I discovered this game when spotify recommended me this at the start of the year, and honestly i've been OBSSESED with it since then. I want to kiss Wayne
@@Zeppelee We can take turns. I'm sure Wayne wouldn't mind getting a little more love. But i wanna smooch the rest of the gang as well. They all deserve a kiss
You know, I was wondering a few days ago if Mason had any other projects for after Hylics 2. Even though this is just an expansion on the great soundtrack it had, it's still fresh and new. Can't wait to see what he makes next.
I can't put into words how happy that makes me. Assuming that Mason would carry on with these alone was sort of just me being realistic, but knowing you'll be working together in the future makes me giddy.
A silly hope, but I would love to have both Hylics games on the Switch. Nintendo loves their indie games, and Hylics is just the perfect series to show off to confused people on the street (in an hypothetical world without the plague, of course)
man you guys are some insanely talented dudes. Recently got gifted hylics by a friend and its one of the best recent gaming experiences I have. need to play the 2nd and im hype for the 3rd
I remember first hearing a sample of this on Instagram and being absolutely entranced. When I realized this is what it was, I was blown away. This is absolutely the vibe I adore.
Driven, but calm. Has its sinister moments, but overall, the tone is hopeful and victorious. The phrase "an inevitability you have to work for" came to mind listening to this, and I think it's pretty descriptive of what this song is evoking.
I listen this song over and over in my most atmospheric moment of my life. When I was in depression all I can lean on was my emotions and thoughts and this masterpiece conveys perfectly how it feels to be in endless cycle of grief and joy.
Leitmotifs are all over these tracks and I love it! One that I've noticed that hasn't been mentioned to my knowledge is "That's a Big Stick..." at 4:40
I just picked Hylics 2 this week. Haven’t completed it yet, but I’m in love with the soundtrack. This was a pleasant surprise and I’m grinning ear to ear listening it.
Amazing how, if you showed me all the characters respective themes and asked me to guess who's is whos theme... I would get them all right because the characterization is so fuckin good. This song screams sexy '90s biker that wears leather and has an atitude, aka, Wayne
The world you guys created is something truly special. One of my favorite things to exist in all areas! Music, Style, and Flair of it all are so awesome! It really inspires me to try to test what art can be. Love ya guys :]
i'm not too big on games these days, but chuck's input coupled with the hylics style on these few tracks and on the games tracks took me by shock. so glad you two got along so well, the results blew me away. from one musician to another, this stuff really inspires me to make something as confusingly provocative
If you were raised on games like Marathon and Myth, it's no wonder you find the current crop so disheartening. Noita is a great modern game. This one is great too.
I will always be dumbfounded with how great these soundtracks are! The Hylics 2 OST is already amazing for what it is, but Moonage Lobotomy is in a league of its own. Most videogame music isn't stuff you'd listen to outside of the game itself. Mostly because all the "best" OSTs are compositions tailormade for whatever cutscene or setpiece or level they happen to be part of. People have an uncanny ability to pick out "movie/game music", and there are very few games that manage to transcend this barrier. The only ones I can think of that do this are Jet Set Radio, Pathologic 1/2, ULTRAKILL and Hylics 2. It's an incredible feat.
Thank you so much I for your kind words! Mason was cool enough to let me explore here! He’s a great dude. He let me really go far out there with Absent Moon, too. This world of his is so incredibly dense with unknown shit, so I feel like having a ton of music to express that makes it that much more rich!
@@chuck_salamone I always forget that you can see these and I about jumped out of my skin when I got this notification- not mad of course, just startling. Keep up the good work in your upcoming projects! :-]
even just by the guitar riffs at the start i was immediately already wanting to marry the entire theme and wayne himself im joking i do wanna marry the guitar riff tho like oh my god what is this eargasm
This song has been stuck in my head for god knows how long, I listen to this every day. (No joke, my friends have pointed out that I've been listening to this on Spotify for quite a bit ..) The vibes are just immaculate, and it captures Wayne's whole thing perfectly. I'm so glad I found out about Hylics, man.
