I started playing Black Powder Epic recently. I can confirm that even with the lack of "real" assembly, putting together models gets sick after 30th or so stand.
Thank you! The mixed unit boxes has been sticking in my craw ever since I worked out what the fuck GW were up to. They know full well that some of those units are going to be over-specialised, or just plain shit, and would never make it onto the tabletop with any regularity. If they were put into their own boxes, they would sell poorly if they sold at all. By putting them in the same boxes as must-haves or solid, bread and butter units, they can use them as 'filler', allowing them to over-charge for the units you do want. It's the most cynical, anti-consumer bullshit GW have pulled in a long, long time, and it's going to be the slow death of the game. I dearly want to give it a chance. I love my tiny tanks, titans and knights, but if the small amount I have saved up isn't going to get me even a third of the force needed to play a full game, what is the fucking point? I might as well buy back into the Hours Heresy, buy a 3D printer and just print out my own vehicles. Hell, I might as well just buy into a different games system entirely. I hear Dystopian Wars is doing well for such a small game... FFS, GW. You're greed is going to kill the game before it launches. This is what happens when you put the corporate accountants in charge, and everything becomes about nickel and diming your customer base, just so a bunch of rich twats who own the majority of the shares can get even richer.
I hate to say it but it's been kind of par for the course if you look at every other bundle in other systems, like it wasn't that long ago we were getting "duel" boxes with 2 new models and 90% "you should already have this"/"actually it's kind of bad"
Idk if Im gonna get into epic. But if I do it will be 3d printed. I cant imagine doing it other wise. For full companies, vehicle support wings, drop pods... all that will be pennies in resin compared to plastic. I think this will be a game GW loses money on. And it will mark the begining of the decline.
we are disappointed and my main opponent and I have decided to pass. A few are saying, "oh I'll buy the main box and rule books and 3d print the rest. That is an option, but it is still time intensive and cost money -- and even a small community of players is highly unlikely. Not good.
My issue with current day GW kits is that they are boring. If you have a monopose kit, why is it not preassembled. I enjoy building but when I have zero construction input, i feel like i'm just finishing their job.
They seemed to follow the logic of scaling down 28mm assembly to this 10/15mm scale. They should have looked at Battlefront’s Flames of War tank kits, which have just a small number of assembly steps. But anyway, they won’t support this system long term based on their track record of the last ten plus years.
What do you recommend for those who were excited for this? Should we buy into it at least a little to support the system we're excited for? Or will it be best to just abandon it because GW inevitably will? If it's as expensive as your predicting ( i know it probably will 😔) then I wont be buying much more then the starter set, if even that. I was wanting the starter set, the box of knights, and a thunderhawk. But thinking more on it now that does seem pitifully small for a "legion" of Astartes, even with the Solar Auxilia back up. "So maybe I need 2 starter sets?" And I can already hear my bank account screaming in terror. Ultimately my decision will be based on the Canadian prices but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Personally? Get a hold of the rules, and print the rest. Why would I want to buy a starter set with minis I don't want/need when the box doesn't even include all of the rules for the selection of units we have been shown already? Seems like a failed strategy.
This could be interesting. LI is following the same format as it did “back in the day” as AT was originally set in the HH, AI was set in 40k and Spacemarine was originally set in the HH which then moved into epic 40k. So i think if there is enough uptake we could see that evolution into 40k and the reintroduction of the alien aircraft from AI? Wishful thinking but then it could get alien ground troops and may be titans lol. The pricing is the question if those sprues are the same size as the AI ones then i could easly see the MRRP for 4 Spartans being £26-28?
I think my biggest fear is the grognards (like me) are either going to be disappointed with the rules or uninterested in repurchasing their collections, and the new folks are going to FOMO in & drop it just as quickly for the next 28mm release :(
I love epic scale, ive played it since the early 90s, im really lloking forward to this system coming out so I hope you are wrong... But i suspect you are right. Its a shame if so. As for the multipart models, personally i dont mind that, I love the smaller scale. Love the vids, I guess we will have to wait and see.
GW flubbing the release on this means the game is DOA after launch day. The additional books needed for core troops for some factions just adds to the bloat. Epic Armageddon had everything needed for play in one book. Additional books just added more races. This was a game system that came out of nowhere, but had a lot of hype in a short amount of time. Now it’s sadly going to be binned by a majority of people.
Just stick to 3rd party models like we've done for decades. Its not like you can even play epic in stores cos they don't have tables for it, so whats the point?
@ZoomerStasi more like I want the company to succeed, just not whilst nickle and diming us. They had a great IP once, an IP that ensnared all of us, and they've squandered it IMHO in the name of FOMO driven sales targets to up that share price with no thought given to the long term. I talk because I want to see them turn it around and go back to the GW I knew as a kid.
@@rogaldorn8519your user tag is the name of a GW character, that's another line ticked off my "GW simp with zero ability to critically think" bingo card. Now, does that sound like a fair assessment of you? I don't think so, but you just tried to negate my fair and reasonable response by just calling me a hater, so how about you conjure up some real critique instead of some 'gotcha'?
@@rogaldorn8519 dude made valid points about painting a lot of tiny miniatures and then having to paint even more of them because those units get removed by the handfull, dude made a point about how much you need to invest to have a decent size army dude made a point about big boxes with all kinds of units people might not be interested in but get it anyways because of getting the units they do want. etc etc and all you took from this is FOMO and gw hater?? i just shudder to think about what goes on in some peoples heads..😮💨
You see titans in smaller scale are awesome because you can buy and make titans for a game focused on titans. No bullshit, just a good game about some of the most awesome vehicles in the entire 30/40k setting. Legiones seems like the same amount of work as regular game. If you will need to assemble like 12 rhinos, several spartans, multiple predators etc. No thanks. I can print them in one piece. Also there is a reason I love LOTR minis so much. 99% of those minis are single piece miniatures.
Longevity is a reasonable concern.. but... I don't see how putting together a multi part tank kit is all that different than putting together a multipart marine kit, or guardian kit, or hormagaunt kit. Tanks and dreads may be dying by the handful, but that's not really all that different than having your 10 man cultist squad get instantly tabled in 40k.
It makes a big difference when all your models behave like that. Putting together 120 models for a guard army is just not for everyone. But doing that for every army you create will be tough in a long term for every customer. And it can be completely avoided by 3d printing. Another huge effort has to be put into painting all of these now. The increased scale forces you to put a lil more effort in then just slob jobbing. You still can paint like that but 900 bucks worth of minis should be kinda treated differently xD
This is effectively an expansion to Titanicus that wants to be a real boy. I just hope the aeronautica inclusion is less token than in the old epic Armageddon. (Although given the scale difference...)
can,t see a big market for this tiny stuff, its main strength is that its compatible with titanicus and auronautica. big boxes nice but people want to buy seperate units as well, and that is just another productline that geedubs has to keep up and maintain(and they have problems enough as is with the existing supply chain demands for current line-up) they keep biting ever more and more and more stuff off that they can,t chew.(and if this goes on they will choke)😒 not that interested in other game systems for geedubs. there is not the attraction to me ,because of the modelling/kitbashing/painting side of the hobby is pretty difficult being this tiny and can,t be enjoyed much other than using binoculars to see the differences 😉 besides i have to decide for myself to not bite more off than i can chew so ill stick to one game system and cherry pick random stuff from other gamesystems to add to that.
Imagine thinking that gw making bigger and new models being more expensive ...would translate to smaller new models being cheaper compared to their size ... I cannot imagine the sucker who buys a generic something the size of one space marine, for like £40 ....
100% agreed. This is going to be a pump and dump game. No one in their right mind is going to pay 700-800 when you can buy a printer for 300 and print EVERYTHING forever. If the rules don't absolutely rock, people are just going to go back to older epic rules. I'm literally cringing at all the people in my epic channels that are fixated on rebasing their epic minis on these new bases because the game is going to be dead in 6 months.
It's a box full of half-baked dlc BS! I can't be assed to purchase a garbage mish mash of dlc in order to buy a FTON more of dlc just to make a semi competent force and I say competently as if you buy two starter boxes of TCG and don't dump tons on boosters and singles. GW just pushing more of the stupid half infantry box, bare sprue, limited unit models to force completion army buy. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so bloody expensive.
I will not be buying this stuff because it will be overpriced by factors compared to even the HH models .... Even so ...I'm incredibly sad over this video .... I'll walk away and I'll be fine ..but for a small amount of time I felt listening to this ..mild dread and I don't even care about it ..
Amount of Battle Tanks in Epic: You fielded either a Predator or Land Raider Company in Epic. Total ten battle tanks. That´s more than enough for a decent game and nowhere near the suggestion made in this video. Prices: Modern GW price are bad across all game systems. The only instance you can save a buck is from starter sets who have good values. It´s a bit strange advocating to buy Forge World products for Horus Heresy in other videos and lambasting the LI range for having stiff prices here.
I cannot speak for you, but I regularly fielded closer to 20 vehicles and transports, as well as sometimes taking the centerpiece of my force, a Lucius-pattern Warlord. I also remember guard players taking companies of shadowswords, baneblades, a dozen basilisks etc. Some marine players had thunderhawk transporters doing laps bringing on tanks or moving them around, I couldn't afford it at the time and was so jealous of them, I think I might do that for myself!
I know this sounds bad, but I hope this game dies immediately so there are more resources allocated to the old world. It's wishful thinking but I just want fantasy back. I'd love to hear your review of the foot knights.
The Old World isn't going to rock for a long time. They're basically focusing on two factions, with a half dozen others down the line, and the factions in the far west, the Lizardmen, dark elves, high elves etc. will basically just get rules and no campaign or anything involving them. The foot knights are meh, the sword version works for me, but why is there a chick in the first line, unhelmeted fighting? That's just wrong, that's the thing that made Repanse special, if any other chick can just be some knight, where does that leave "not-Joan-of-Arc"?
