Sometimes we travel for miles but there can be good country walks closer to home. I shot this on evening in late May with a new camera (Sony HX9V), however, the battery wasn't fully charged...
It certainly doesn't seem like "not much of a hill" when you are walking up it! Looks like you chose a really nice evening to go up there though, and the camera footage is great.
Loved running up and sliding down here when we were kids back in the 60's, lived in Holcombe Brook, so were very close to it. Thanks for the memories, lovely video
It's amazing what nice places can be overlooked locally in favour of going further afield. Looks like a great little walk. That tower looks very odd. Striking from a distance, but almost prison-like up close! That image stabilisation looks like it's working a treat. I noticed a big difference when I went from an old point and shoot without, to a proper video camera with stabilisation. Makes a big difference.
I used to play up there' Holcombe hill when i was a kid, i grew up in Elton Bury, a group of us would get the bus up to Ramsbottom then walk up the hil, spend hours up there, there was the fireing range over the other side , there was also an assault course which was used on the tv programme 'The Krypton facture', i remember coming across this thing and being amazed that we had found' an assault coure of tv!!!!......., life slips by~
Yup, I remember the temperance bar when it was owned by Mr Fitzpatrick and, following him, the Waddingtons. Blood tonic (red fizzy stuff) was awesome. Have you tried putting foam (cut out piece of bath sponge) over the mic on your camera ? If you can't cover it easily you could try using blue tac to hold a small piece on. It doesn't eliminate the wind completely but it does deaden it :o)
I live just down the road in Brandlesholme, near Greenmount. I know Rawtenstall well. No doubt you frequented the Temperance bar? I go to Rammy a lot too, local town and market. Good chippy too! Small world eh? When I can get a mic with a dead cat strapped to it, I might do some more. Usually the wind noise annoys me!
Hello Bob! Long time no speak. I'm doing the Welsh 3000 this week and didn't want to take my GH13 along with lenses etc. The camera is a Sony HX9V. This video was shot in AVCHD 1080 50p and it has a big optical zoom range. Ideal for taking walking and of course, it takes pictures too!
I've tried various things. I intend to get myself a Zoom H1 recorder and a mini deadcat (deadkitten?). That'll do the trick! I need some blood tonic since we're doing the Welsh 3000 on Monday!
I feel the need to travel a little lighter myself these days! My GH2 offers a really good compact solution for 'Video' but I have allowed my Canon 7d to become a bloated beast, too heavy, too many lenses for convenience. I use the 7d for controlled 'shooting' but I feel that I will soon return to Camcorder perhaps with a larger sensor.
The stabilisation worked brilliantly. Which side of the hill do you live on? I was brought up and lived in Rawtenstall which is also 5 mins away and in plain view (depending which direction you look of course). Spent many hours in the pubs in Ramsbottom in the late 80's and early 90's too. :o) Nice to see you commentating, I think it adds something to the experience :o)
Hi Alan. Good impromptu Video walk. A remarkable Camera...is it a still camera with Video? I watched it in 1080 which is pretty good....did you 'upload' at 1080? Bob
Yes historically its Lancashire as was Salford, Liverpool, Barrow etc but no longer. Factually Bury is Greater Manchester. I can quite well believe that you still write the incorrect county as your address, you seem very stuck in the past.
Not here, like most of Bury’s younger generation we have always known Bury to be in Greater Manchester and make sure we use on our postal addresses. We are very proud of our great city and Greater Manchester. How dim using a cricket argument and very easily dismantled. Warwickshire cricket club in Birmingham. Surrey and Middlesex cricket clubs in London. Remind me which counties are Birmingham and London in? Stop living in the past Foggy, you can’t halt progress, all the towns within Greater Manchester have done very well being linked to one of Europe’s greatest cities, Bury in particular has done rather well as one of the busiest commuter towns in Greater Manchester. Foggy it’s happening whether you like it or not, just accept progress.
