Legendary French comic artist Moebius speaks on an exclusive panel moderated by Director John Musker with special surprise guests at the CTN Animation Expo on November 20th, 2010
Jean Giraud “Moebius” - A once in a lifetime opportunity to see the genius behind the talent of this internationally recognized artist. Jean Giraud’s work has profoundly influenced the worlds of science fiction, animation, publicity, 3D imagery and video games for over thirty years. His drawings have also attracted the attention of great filmmakers including Luc Besson’s 5th Element, James Cameron’s Abyss, Steven Lisberger’s Tron and Ridley Scott’s Alien among many others.
Like the Moebius strip, whose two ends fold together to form a one-sided loop, the artist sees his identity as dual. Known as both Gir and Moebius these dual pseudonyms reflect his own shifting artistic identity resulting in a variety of fully realized styles, from the detailed realism of Blueberry, to the dreamlike drawings of Arzach.
“Going from Giraud to Moebius, I twisted the strip, changed dimensions, I was the same and yet someone else. Moebius is the result of my duality.” ~Jean Giraud
Having not been in the United States for over 15 years “An Evening with Moebius” is a rare exclusive opportunity to see and hear from this internationally recognized artist. Now less than 70 days away this once in a lifetime opportunity has limited seating and is designed to promote an intimate “special event” atmosphere that includes moderated interview, presentation, drawing demonstration along with surprise special guests. All attendees are invited to the cocktail reception directly following the event.
One Time Only - A very special evening!

I have a really good feeling after watching this interview. I´m new to french comics and have this great opportunity of discovering his works. It´s amazing how so many things are intertwined. Manga, Miyazakis and Otomos work which I was familiar with, Alien and Blade Runner one of my favourite movies. That tai chi part got me, as I do that myself. Been a great view. Thank you.

I used to read Starblazer, a British sci-fi comic anthology, when I was a kid and I swear one of them was drawn by Moebius. The artwork made such a huge impression on me I never forgot it. There were 281 issues and I never got to read all of them so it's possible Moebius might have done another.

Kurt Komoda He talks about a magazine from his youth, I pretty sure it is called just "Disney" with all kinds of comics. And in it a story by Alex Raymond. So that would be a short story or a story with Flash Gordon, Agent X9 or Rip Kirby. I also think that the letter is the end of the story, as in we will never know mysterious ending.
@brunowatel8646
@brunowatel8646 3 года назад
@@magichands135 I could be wrong but I don't think there was any magazine called "Disney" in those days. But there was a magazine called "Le Journal de Mickey." There was an entire collection (now gone) from the 40's and 50's in my grand parents' house and that fits the description of what Moebius describes as "Disney."

I wonder if Moebius has ever watched Blade Runner and what is his opinion on the movie itself .. does anyone have any info on that ? +Alexander Lindner I'm so happy to hear that :) ... I'm touched just to be able to hear from someone who knows Moebius personally .. thank you sir.. Blade Runner is likely the greatest movie ever made and it was heavily influenced by Moebius, one of the candidates for the greatest artist ever, in my opinion ... As an aspiring artist, I was astonished to find such a great artist not long ago but was very sad to find out he has passed away ... I learn so much about the possibilities of beauty just by looking at his endless imaginations so wonderfully realised .. he has expanded my visual aesthetics ..

uuduu7 Well I knew Jean a little, and spent some days at his house in Paris Montrouge, back in the 90's. He even cooked lunch for us both at some point lol. So yes, I ate potatoes prepared by Moebius. (and a chocolate yoghurt for desert, I remember that for some reason). I also was fortunate to see him draw Blueberry pages. He could draw without looking on the paper, like being on the phone in the same time and inking horses. Back then he had a little room in his house for working, just next to the living room, and two small children. I have no idea how he was able to concentrate and have the output he had. Very glad I could help you with your question.

Practice practice practice. I've been drawing 30 years and still draw in all my spare time. The beautiful thing about art is that as an artist, we are never satisfied with our work, there are struggles, and we strive to improve. It's about the journey and enjoying it, rather than the destination. Maybe make it a thing to draw oc's or write little plots down daily. Stick to it and observe how much you've grown in a year. What Turkey Raider said below is also great advice. But regardless, always be drawing!
@chaimcohen4538
@chaimcohen4538 3 года назад
@@HASTN I'm glad to read this. I would like it 17 times if I could. I wish someone could have told me this 42 years ago, when I first began drawing. I always thought the accomplished artists found some level of achievement nirvana where their legacy is secured (in their own estimation). I know I have always sought to improve while never quite feeling like I have arrived when it comes to personal output. Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm not really much of a visual artist but I like to write songs. I am often adverse to it, for some unknown ego-based reason, but I find my very best work comes when I find a collaborater I trust and feel safe with. I'll say find a like-minded thinker that doesn't draw and have them express their ideas to enrich yours, Moebius did this with Jodorowoski for The Incal. Jodorowoski just had a story in mind and would mime actions that Moebius depicted gracefully.

@@axun5002 Having a sense of pride (or a self esteem) and being a narcissist are two different things Imo. Moebius was quite humble and respectful with others. On the other hand, Frazetta was a true narcissist. He was totally involved into his own legend-making process. He was not afraid to lie about his life and process, by omission or not, building a god-like character of himself. Two different persona here.
