Rakim is the only rapper never cust on nun if his songs what mcs can do that I rap but I can't even d o it that's what you call real mc n dope mc real talk bro
It's a trip watching a legend like Chuck D (who's actually older than Ra) talk to him with so much respect and adoration. We can all learn something about humbling ourselves.
Look at the respect they have for each other...today's artist need to learn from this...no stupid ass beefs...etc..it's ok to love and respect your brother...
These rappers these have ego trips. They don't dap it up too selfish we killing our our musicians or our people most of us don't teach and don't come together . I wish hip hop now was like the golden era of hip hop. I wonder about the future of hip hop
Rakim spoke on that in this interview. Back in the late 80s nothing but love between all those artists until they get in the studio and get more competitive
Could not agree more @Dee Fair. There are too few of us for us to constantly beef with one another. The uniqueness of the Black man's struggle can only be understood by another Black man, but Charlie would rather we believe that another Black man should be our mortal enemy.
The main reason dude's today can't/don't respect one another the way Chuck and Rakim do/will, is because they don't/won't respect themselves, plain 'n simple...
I tell people all the time. Rakim may not be your favorite rapper, but I bet he's your favorite rapper's, rapper. Much respect to the God MC and Sir Chuck D! Where would hip-hop be today without these two? It would still be around, but it wouldn't be as good. Peace to the Gods...
He introduced concepts and topics in Hip Hop such as esoteric Gnostic knowledge (Freemasonry, Cosmic Thought, Egyptology). Rakim's parents were also both musicians and part of the late 60s/early 70s Progressive Jazz movement fusing jazz, bebop, funk, rock, classical, punk and found sounds (early sampling?) So that was a factor and influence as well. Rakim is Hip Hop Perfected
Without these 2 hip hop would NEVER be the same. These 2 kicked Knowledge, Wisdom, and Understanding, especially RAKIM. Don’t throw it away, just think about it, BLESS!!
Yeah, but chuck knows how to big people up like he did. Only because Rakim's book was the focus. Rakim wasn't around in the late 70s and early '80s'. His Album came out '87. That's about 8-10 years of the movement passed.
GEN X Hip Hop Lords....Rakim-G.R.A.T (Greatest Rapper of All Time) and the Greatest Truth-Teller Chuck D....this is MJ sitting wit Prince. Chuck Berry sittin wit Little Richard. Robert Plant choppin it up wit Jagger. Much Love & Thanks! #KeepOnTruckin
Ra is like the toughest ever coming up in the game and to have Chuck interview with his intelligence makes this one of the most monumental moments in hip hop history. Peace to the culture and may it continue to inspire and enlighten.
TRUST WHEN I TELL YOU THAT RAKIM'S FATHER AND MOMS WERE THE COOLEST.. AND HUMBLE . LOVING PEOPLE... I MISS THEM,,,THEY HAD ALWAYS OPEN ARMS TO US ALL...
@Huckleberry Quick NO DOUBT,, WE HOPE ALL IS WELL WITH YA FAMS...WE WILL BE BACK ON THE ROAD SOON,, BUT FIRST THINGS FIRST.. WE MUST WATCH OUT FOR ONE ANOTHER AND SHOW LOVE,, PEACE.. FROM THE PAID IN FULL FAMILY...FED D...
Two living icons chopping it up. Two goats chopping it up. Two legends chopping it up. What more could we ask for? Godspeed to both of these Kings 👑🐐🐐👑
Rakim crafted the best HipHop track in it's history..."Follow the Leader" no track can come close to that but P.E. "Welcome to the TerrorDome" is my 2nd fave
It was/ is that unparallel song that people used/use as a land mark to TRY AND SURPASS.!! I have NOT heard ONE YET!!!( Mc, rapper Lyricist, DEAD OR ALIVE)
THE MOST INTERESTING SAID HE NEVER THOUGHT HE WASN'T INTERESTING ENOUGH JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT HE WAS JUST BEING HIMSELF THE MFKG KOOLEST OF THE KOOL THE MAJESTIC GOD MC LOVE THIS DUDE PEACE LOVE & BLESSINGS!!![999]
Chuck D is a bad man himself. I met they brother in Downtown Memphis while PE was on tour. He gave me a hat while we chopped it up outside the Radison hotel next to the tour bus. Very cool and humble brotha. Chuck D, Ra and myself are from the same era. Those were some good times back then.
That's a testament to the vile nature of the internet. Thing is though, neither Chuck's nor Rakim's blood pressure rises by even a point in the face of haters.
2 of My Favorite Musical HipHop Big Brothas Right there.”The Voice of Power” “CHUCK D”.And The GOD MC “RAKIM ALLAH”.The Lyrical Savior indeed. But on a Real I really Felt “RA” Talking about His PARENTS.Understanding That! We are All Extended Versions of Our Physical Folks That Produced Us.And I can see that even talking about it now! That it takes a lot of internal Strength in doing so.But I’m glad He Found a Way to make Peace with His loss and Be Strong enough to make History.Salute to The “God RA” for Your Contributions.✌🏾👨🏾
@@Lnnelson0507 Lol...no sign of Rakim in the credits but check what Rolling Stone said: Rolling Stone magazine placed it at number 9 in its 2013 "Best Summer Songs of All Time", saying: "Over a funky laidback beat, a young Will Smith does a fantastic Rakim impression over a sample of Kool & the Gang's "Summer Madness." Even THEY knew what was up!
Ra inspired me as well , and took me and the whole game to a whole new level. But chuck D gave Black people PRIDE. Big up to both legends (For real)!!!
That's crazy cause chuck d provide introspection on a movement at the right time, that's heat. Along with Rakim who had to hold up to a nation's lifestyle, and that's dope.
My high school years were from 1994-98.... That was Biggie and Pac era and when the discussion who’s the best rapper alive came up my answer was Rakim. I was sipping the Juice early on
Nas kicked both pac & biggie ass on the mic during their peak era with Illmatic & It Was Written..Nas also the Longevity Rushmore that's still here emceeing like those days. Krs, Nas, Rakim, Chuck D the living Rushmores that need a movie while still here
@@2KILLAVILLE Illmatic was great and is legendary but all those rappers you just named came from the generation before. They are all greats as well for sure. NAS definitely didn’t kick their ass in the charts because BIG and PAC were way ahead of him in that sense. You sound like you just watched a documentary on illmatic and based your opinion off of that. You must have been in high school in the 2000’s right and not the 90’s
@@TstanDa-ManI know Nas & Scarface both was after them but Nas still my 🐐. Nas & Scarface both Rushmores as well so I put them in the Rushmore list with them..Nas was Deeper & can talk about alot more than Pac & Biggie & have the Advanced Sharp Complexed Vocab, Wordplay & Rhyming Lyrical Skills to go along with his subject/ Topics. Biggie even admitted that in his 95 source awards interview. I cant say nas didnt sell like them cause Nas 2nd album It Was Written in 96 went 2x platinum in 2 months & was # 1 Album 4x consecutive weeks. Nas was the hottest emcee summer 96. Pac even was even inspired by that album & the track I gave you Power which is why he did Me & My Girlfriend. Keep in mind Nas , Biggie blew up after 1 or 2 albums. Pac most commercial sales & success wasn't until his 4th album All Eyez On Me. 2pacalypse now & Strictly 4 my niggaz didnt sell much when first released.
I grew up in the 90's and start listening to Rap in 96...so PE was long in the game and i knew master ra just as a solo artist, but for me as a teen at this time, i fell in love with joints like the 18 letter, it's been a long time, the r, waiting for the world to end and when i be on the mic....my personal opinion is ra is the best that ever done it hands down and word up!! Peaze from Germany 🇩🇪✌️❤️
I feel horrible for this generation that didn’t see these guys back in the day!! Legendary hip hop artist that could never be replaced! Long live the legends of hip hop!
Let the rythem get um out cold fallow the leader untouchable 18th letter mind blowing all his work is out of this world! he will allway be my one and only greatest eemcee to ever do it !crazy part his life mirrors mines same birthday I was football quarterback star and wide reciver all city-state champ !
Rakim the man of tomorrow doesn't have an era he was the beginning of the new school. just like Jordan was the beginning of the new school style of play in the NBA, both supremely innovative at their craft
Blessed enough to brag on the fact that I've seen both these legends live on stage and they rocked it!! Salute to Rakim and Chuck D, Eric B, Public Enemy. Flaavvvv!
I never realized that Summer Time by Will Smith was done with Rakim's rhyme style. 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 Mind you that is probably his biggest song all time and it was inspired by Rah.
"I take 7 mc put em in a line..i take 7 more bro who think they can...n it would take 7 more until i go for mine...now dats 21 mc lined up at dat same time..."
They say if you’re lucky in the right place at the right time. you’ll get a chance to see the blue moon, this was one of those rare moments where two highly decorated emcees take the stage, our blue moon. Much respect!
TWO LEGENDS....We are so BLESSED to have these soldiers to be our Representatives to The World. Sending MUCH RESPECT form PHILLY (The Illadelph). ONE LOVE!!
Yo his dad was brilliant.. when you're raising a kid your job isn't to give them answers.. it's your job to point them in the right direction and teach them the thought process behind figuring out the answers themselves
Big Up to being, ALL WISE AND CIVILIZED, MOTIVATED AND ELEVATED, MAINTAINING AND SUSTAINING. The everlasting gospel. Move on brothers!! Here it is BAMM in your face, God damn, this is a dope jam.
Hope Hop Royalty. Bars not cars measure the ability of an artist. Two legendary heavyweights with undeniable influence based in conscious work. Salute.
They definitely sleeping on Ruth Brown. Go check her if you haven't. RA is the best and funnier than I expected too. What a great convo between two legends.
