Whilst on holiday in North Wales, we decided to call into the Rhyl Miniature Railway for the first time in 50 years.
This great Tourist attraction based on the West side of Rhyl in North wales, today 'Joan' one of the original 1920 built 4-4-2 15inch gauge steam locomotives built by Albert Barnes & co of Rhyl was the power for my visit. I understand than 'Joan' will be withdrawn later this year for major boiler works to be undertaken as apart of maintaining her 10 year certificate.
It was a special day for me as Vernon one of the Drivers asked me to join him on the footplate for part of the run around the large lake, and I was also informed that if I was intending to video Leander on the North Wales Coast Express, then I might get something a little special, as they would postion their train near to the Main line, where Jubilee 45690 was working a Liverpool Lime Street to Holyhead Excursion, and open the possibility of catching both trains together...This was an opportunity not to be missed.
A wonderful visit, a big thanks to all the staff that looked after me, and something I will remember for many years to come.
