To me it’s a player’s guitar that sits in a place that prevents litigation, is affordable yet professional, and is built for the rigours of gigging. It sounds better and like nothing else in its price range, and at the end of the day that’s what really matters. I think Bill Nash has the working musician in mind with these, and for that reason I hope he continues to provide great guitars like these for years to come. 👍

I've played one of these Nash guitars and I'm convinced each one has a soul. They sound great to me because they have that old soul feel and playability. I love them and plan on buying one within the next year.

The lesson I take from this is to never play any really old, custom shop or higher-end boutique guitars because it’s just going to take the joy out of other guitars. I’m watching lightly relic’d Nash T63’s and S63’s on Reverb and I don’t care what kind of screws are in them.
@bdamotta
@bdamotta 3 года назад
I think it's important to buy exactly what you want. If somebody is after the most authentic reproduction of an actual 52 Telecaster, down to the screws, they should be prepared to pony up the dough for a Fender Custom Shop. A $2k anything from anybody else isn't going to fill that particular void. I mean, it says directly on Nash's website: "Our guitars replicate the look and feel of vintage pieces with updates that appeal to the modern player." So I dunno, seems kinda unfair to point out that they're not period correct specs when that wasn't their intention.

u can buy any screws / including aged vintage ones for guitars / brigdes/tuners/ knobs etc - literally anything to build the guitar of your dream for pennies. dozens great companies sells them ( kluson/gotoh/shaller/wilkinson ) so quite weak point of bashing this gitar for sake of couple of quid upgrades??? Also your guitar should aged with you and with your style of playing / handling and so on so Nash is a perfect start to own read deal huitar which probably stay with you longer that any custom shop that always pretends to be " an old" and worn - yep - only from distance- as soon you spot the "custom shop " logo on it - yep- its a fake relic...

My Nash s63 sounds as good as any custom shop strat I’ve played personally, but there is something special about Fender custom shops. The price and quality on these are just so good that I’m more than content without one, and that’s a cool feeling I never really had before. I’m unfortunately a guy who always wants more.

I have the shell pink Telemaster and love it. Prior I was just looking at gibson and fender......I played a 6k 335 and was not impressed at all. When I saw the Nash at my local shop there was also a new gold relic telecaster for 4800. Sat down with both of them and rolled off the tone on both of them and the Nash had tripple the tone......also I didn't like the small neck on the telecaster ..... I felt perfectly happy walking out of a shop with a pink guitar I never heard of........its been 2 months and I haven't had to tune it yet.

That's not a Mary Kaye. It's blonde. Mary Kaye was a 1950s pop singer. In the 1950s, translucent blonde was the standard finish on the Telecaster, and Sunburst was the standard finish on the Stratocaster. Fender would occasionally make blonde (ash bodied) Stratocasters, and vice versa. On rare occasions, Fender would also add gold-plated hardware to a guitar. Mary Kaye was photographed with a blonde Stratocaster with gold hardware in the 1950s. She didn't even own the guitar, it was loaned by Fender Sales president Don Randall. Back in the era before reference materials and books existed, collectors were at least familiar with the photos of Mary Kaye and began to refer to the blonde Stratocasters with gold hardware as "Mary Kaye models". Interestingly enough, this did come full circle as Fender did reach an agreement with Mrs. Kaye in the 2000s and did license her name to officially make a "Mary Kaye" model (in 2007 IIRC). But it was never an official model, just a description of a particular combination of features - a 1950s, maple neck, translucent blonde Stratocaster with gold hardware. Of course, one can refer to the color as "Mary Kaye blonde", but it's redundant, as "Blonde" is the translucent finish. An opaque white guitar (Olympic White or a custom color) is not blonde. A blonde strat is ...a blonde strat. In the same way that a blonde 1950s Tele is a blonde Tele. That's the name of the translucent finish. Not that I'm still salty, but this leads me to one of the single dumbest things anyone has ever said to me in an online guitar forum, in this case in the early 1990s. I think this even pre-dated the Internet and was on FIDOnet. Some genius aggressively argued that the term "Mary Kaye" meant ... pink. Yes, pink. Because ... you guessed it. Mary Kay. The cosmetics / MLM tycoon. At first I thought he was joking but ... you know how some people just figure something out on their own, and simply can't be budged with ... facts ... once they've made up their minds? Yep, he was one of those. And this was during an era when sending a photo meant using a scanner, and dial up and ... some people just aren't worth correcting. All this is to point out that, for heaven's sake, for the love of all that is holy, it's "Mary KAYE", not "Mary Kay". One was a musician/artist. One was a cosmetician. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Up next, we will discuss the difference between a "maple neck", and a "maple neck with maple fingerboard".

I'm with you! I thought I said that in the video. May have edited it out for brevity. It's definitely blonde and not mary kaye. I called John Shultz with True Vintage Guitar and he confirmed this color wouldn't have showed up until late 54 or 55.

Danocaster makes the best vintage correct guitars. I've owned and played many Fender custom shops, Nash, and original '50s and '60s Fenders and Danocaster guitars are spot on with the vintage Fenders. Of course, they cost over 2x as much as a Nash, so you decide if it's worth it.
@SuperCrazylegs26
@SuperCrazylegs26 2 года назад
That’s the biggest drawback for danocaster. They are double the price of a nash guitar. Hands down you can tell the difference from the look and the feel but personally when it comes to spending 4000 I tend to lean towards the custom shop. There are some danos that do look better then CS guitars though.

To me Nash guitars are kind of “what if” or “fantasy” type guitars that give people the option of owning an excellent instrument that replicates many elements of extremely expensive vintage guitars at a reasonable price. The liberties taken with them re: color, etc, make them fun and provide an element of fantasy… I don’t they’re trying to fool anyone.

I appreciate you’re entitled to your opinion, but personally after having been a Tele player for over 25 years I think greed is the order of the day for Fender lately. Sure, their guitars have some of the best fit and finishes around, but you CANNOT get proper vintage tone in anything under Custom Shop. I’d say that Fender should be embarrassed, but it’s not that they lack the capability, it’s that they want to extract as much money from consumers as possible (good for a short term business strategy, but long term disaster awaits) Most people want value for money, not pretend glitter and that’s why the competition is growing. Just my 2 cents 🤷🏻‍♂️

Other than Fender Custom Shop's pickups and relic believability, it's by far the most overrated and overpriced offering on the high end market. They're more "art" than instrument, though I do agree relic guitars have the beauty of holding onto massive value for resale... Bc added dings and light pick scratches in the finish won't devalue the guitar (at all). As cringe as Gibson's marketing may be, at least set-necks are more difficult and time consuming to construct, thus "slightly justifying" a higher price tag. Fenders are literally assembly line instruments; Ford motor style guitars. Designed to be made in the most cost effective fashion. Fender needs to stop making 8 consumer levels of Strats and actually start making super strats that other companies have been doing for decades: ie) responding to inherent design flaws held up by nostalgia

This review is absurd. Nobody who can play cares anything about the exact specifications of the knobs or little things like the finish being slightly off. The custom shops are not exact to the early teles either. They all have some modern appointments. I purchased a $5k custom shop tele that was great. But a few days later I picked up a Nash in a guitar shop. The Nash was supior in every way. The pickups. The neck. The feel of it. The attention to detail of how this guitar was put together - not vs other guitars - was impeccable. These Nashes are $2k-$2.5k not because they're low quality vs a 6k, 7k, or 8k custom shop. They're less expansive because Nash, who's a very unique guy, wants it that way. You're lucky you can even find something like this. Bill Frisell thinks so. Cold Play thinks so.
