I was surprised as well to find out they’re charging $100-$230 depending on model for literally a bottom watering planter with grow lights. Also, for all of you talking about using your own soil, etc- plant growth in Click and Grow is entirely limited by the nutrients and root space available in those cups he showed and the “Smart Soil”. The standard cups that come with all their gardens do NOT allow roots to grow outside the cup in any substantial amount. So, you COULD use your own soil, but with the modifications you’d have to make to the system in order to keep them fed and growing within the context of the cup system, you should save money and just get planters and grow lights. It doesn’t make sense to spend money on this unless you plan to fully buy into the convenience of the food. The huge caveat with click and grow is that with their pod system the plants grow to the max size they can within the construction of the pods, use up all the nutrients in the so-called smart soil, and then die. In this way they continually keep you buying pods within their system. They essentially guarantee the plant becomes root bound and runs out of food. They offer “Pro” plant cups that are perforated so the roots can reach the reservoir, but at that point just buy a real hydroponics system. Click and Grow really pushes the convenience factor but it’s really just an expensive way to make plants disposable for a subscription service.

Exactly, well summarized! This should get more thumbs up. I think that this makes it an interesting toy to play around with, but nothing serious over long run, unless you modify it as you said at which point why not doing DIY from ground up.

One of the best comments. Thank you for taking the time. A few questions I had was what kind of fruits and vegetables I can grow and whether can I use my own soil/seed. I figured there must be a caveat to a system like this because it looks too convenient.

Thank you for your review. I have the smart garden 9 and 3 Aerogardens Harvest and Elite, Kent hydroponic system with 15 pods, Hortuzz growing system. I like all of them. I bought the Click and Grow 9, because of the design and I really enjoy growing it. I first time, I mostly grew greens, and it was fantastic. I also grow my own seeds, they came out really well. I ordered the pro cups with the slits for my tomatoes and peppers. The tomatoes are growing very well, however I have to thin them out, and put some of them in a kratky system. The smart garden is in my bedroom and it looks so chic. Would I get another one, definitely. I am looking into another garden Just Smart and LP H Max 4 in 1.

I kind of impulse bought this item as a gift for my spouse this Christmas since she excels at growing succulents but basically nothing else. I also did none of my usual product research prior to buying this. Tonight, after looking through some reviews, i kind of panicked thinking i made the wrong move. However, your very professional video has changed my mind. Thanks for that!

@WhitepepperFarmshomestead That's cool to hear. If there's a video I'm sure I'll check it out. I figured it would be fine for herbs at the very least. I like the point you brought up about replanting once they reach full growth. I like the though of using this as an incubator to then get a better feel for keeping indoor plants

5:15 I can just transplant 8it if I want to yeah. I think this is more of a plant starter. that way you dont have to continuously buy plant pods to always have a fresh plant. use the plant pods to start a plant then transplant to a soil pot.

@Nannan52

If you don’t mind, how big do some of your plants get/how long do they last in the standard cups? I’m very torn between this an Aerogarden, because it just seems like Click and Grow is trying to make you spend money with the growth restrictions of their cups. I’ve seen both systems from other people and I almost want both just to try myself!
@shinyy160

@@Nannan52 I have 2 "3 pod" machines and ended up buying my grandpa a "9 pod" for his birthday because he wanted one so badly, I have not tried any pro cups but I really want to because of the huge water basin I think they would do well. You'd actually be surprised how big the plants can get within the little cups, it varies for each plant variety. I grew a single snapdragon in one of my machines and planted it in a huge I think 12 inch pot outside and it FILLED the whole pot! ive transplanted some lettuce too and after some dieback its doing well now. out of having this for about a year ive only had 1 pod that didn't grow which is amazing (pretty sure their guaranteed too) personally I love the simplicity and sleek design that I don't have to mess with a pump (that you have to clean) and any other nutrients. And because of the pods it keeps the machine EXTREMELY clean which settles my mind. you only really have to clean out each pot between uses ( though I wash the whole thing out) overall I think it depends on what you want out of your garden, which the pro cups its practically the same as the aero garden without the pump which I love. I was debating on them as well and glad I went with click and grow, ALSO look on their websites for what plants they come with if im not mistaken click and grow has FAR more options. It doesnt feels like there keeping you in a subscription service for me if anything id rather only have to buy the pods them all of the nutrients. ill stop talking now lol hope that helps you decide 😅😂

The Pro Cups made a vast difference to my plants. I have 3 Click and Grow 9’s and bought 18 Pro Cups late last year. I used 9 Pro Cups so far and the plants absolutely thrive. They have been in my Click and Grow for 4,5 months and I harvest on a regular basis. I have Basil, Arugula, Celery, Dill, Mini Tomatoes, etc in my current batch and will be able to harvest them for at least another 4 - 6 weeks before replacing them. The turnover in pods is vastly reduced, which also saves me a massive amount of money, offsetting the rather steep price of the Pro Cups in my country. Adding nutrients to the water is also really no problem at all and is much less of a hassle than to have to repot pot-bound plants after 4 - 6 weeks. I would not recommend Click and Grow at all if people are going to use the standard cups, given my experience with the Pro Cups.

yes ive done it many times and it works good actually even better then their premade pods if your transplanting them!
@Nannan52
@Nannan52 Год назад
If you did that there wouldn’t be any point to purchasing this system. Without their so-called smart soil, the system is literally just a planter with a bottom-watering reservoir and grow lights. Plants probably wouldn’t do too well with your own soil either, because their pods contain concentrated nutrients that the plant needs when growing in the constricted environment of the cups.

Hi! It isn’t something I ever tested, but I never saw any noticeable increase. The lights that are running on it are relatively low powered LED lights. In our house we normally run quite a few high powered LED lights during the winter months so this one adding to that wasn’t noticeable at all.

There's no way on earth I'd buy this. Why? * You're locked into their system, where you have to buy their "smart soil cups". No thanks. * Even if you do something like fill the cups up with soil, the plant size is severely limited. The roots have nowhere to go but to remain inside those tiny cups. * The footprint is tiny. You can't grow much with this thing. I'd much rather 3D print a hydroponic tower and in 1 square foot of space, you can grow SO MUCH MORE! Basil, mint, kale, a few different types of lettuce, cherry tomatoes, etc.
