Sounds like we all want Mrs Quilty to be successful is my first thought. With that being said, I hope this constructed criticism is helpful! We want designer fabric! What is new and on trend. The magazine is too basic, and maybe most of the money is spent on that. So I think a really cute pattern with designer fabric and a technique that is used with one of the notions given. I have a so called fancy machine that I saved for and enjoy it everyday! So no machine shaming😂 Look at your competition and see which boxes sell best, to get an idea of what quilters want. This box would be great for a student in junior high that maybe is just learning to sew.

I have to say that I watched two Mrs Quilty reviews recently, and it seems like they have actually listened to feedback & taken steps to improve since you received this box back in 2023. The fabric looks nicer, no duplicate prints, and I liked the notions that were in the box (both reviewers received the same box). Even the magazine looked better. One of the reviewers mentioned receiving a card with corrections to errors in the patterns, which credit where credit is due, means they actually tested the projects, caught their mistakes, and did what they could to rectify it before sending out the box. The other had stitched up one of the patterns - a rather attractive, if simple, pot holder - and said she had no problems with it at all. If future boxes are of that quality, they just might have a subscription worth getting.

New quilter here. I appreciate all of the comments from Ms. Holly and such seasoned quilters. I have been perusing several 'quilt box' subscriptions and Mrs. Quilty populates a lot. My stash is about 60% from thrift store finds, including donated bags of sewing fabric (Lots of yardage.) collected over the past couple of years. I buy yardage otherwise. I can usually recognize 100% cotton from a high cotton-low poly mix. I want to try high-quality quilt cotton, so I am interested in the various quilt box subs options. The fabric Ms. Holly is reviewing from Mrs. Quilty's quilt box looks like a cotton-poly mix. Handling the fabric sounded like a lightweight utility fabric with a coating. I am still interested in trying a quilt box that has high-quality 100% quilt cotton. Thank you Ms. Holly for the review!!

The only improvement from when I also purchased this box about a year ago is they included the measurements of the templates. Thanks for sharing the "new and improved" Mrs. Quilty, I won't be getting it again though. I found all of their reds and purples really bled, I would be very cautious using the red and those "flowers". Have a great Tuesday Holly, can't wait for the new room reveal!!!

Dear Mrs. Quilty, This is the opinion of a quilting hobbiest. I enjoy traditional piecing with high quality fabrics and cutting out my pieces with rotary cutters and rulers. I enjoy practical high quality notions if they are being added to a box. Extras that are commissioned from a company whether here or overseas for a very low price point to "fill" a box are truly a waste of money, your time and will end up in a landfill. This is not good. Unfortunately, this box would never make my "Gotta Have It" list. While the packaging is cute, the fabric is not from one of the high quality fabric houses. The notions are not the high quality practical type that I would pay for. Suggestions to make it better: 1. Reduce the amount of fabric and purchase from a known quilting fabric company that produces high quality cottons. 2. Add a pattern from a known pattern designer. 3. Include one high quality notion and stop there. No need to add something else. I would leave out the magazine as paper is expensive and most of us get our information with technology now.

I agree with 99% of this, up to the "one high quality notion and stop there." I like little surprises. Doesn't have to be much: a sticker, a recipe card, a little note or poem. Something to make the box stand out from the crowd. Otherwise you are spot on: quality over quantity would be the way to go.

I am in alot of bag making groups. Half the folks want to dimensions for cutting out when squares and rectangles. The other half wants templates like in the book. I find that book a waste of trees as 90% of the people will throw it out and we as a nation needs to be better with printing less paper. Fabric quality has gone down as cotton prices have gone through the ceiling in the last years and has just gone up a huge amount so fabrics prices will be more by December. I find that they could have done that digital and you could print out the templates if you want to print out a square template.

Hi Holly! I liked some of the prints but to be honest I would rather buy less of a good quality fabric than to have more poor quality. When I first began quilting a long time ago I bought poor quality because I didn't know better but the more we handle fabric we can easily tell good from poor quality. These days we have an array of fabulous fabric to choose from. If we only get a small amount of something we love its fine because eventually we will use it or trade with our friends. I love needle minders for epp but only use certain ones that are good in my hand thus a small collection is growing with me.

I am an experienced beginner. I have a nice machine and love using quality fabrics. I don’t feel beginners should use bad quality anything. Would anyone use bad quality brushes for a beginner art class? I agree cheap fabric for learning how to sew because you are just learning on smaller pieces on how to use the machine. Beginners should start with small projects. Fabric is what motivates and inspires. It’s my favorite part of quilting. ❤❤

Since I am not a quilt snob..... The Walmart fabric is hit or miss, so I was surprised at your comparison comment. Some of us do not have the budget to purchase high quality fabric. Seems like it was a good quantity for the price, not terrible quality, and cute design and variety. For 16 FQ (if they measure that way) and a private design, for me this would be a good purchase.

Good morning y’all🍁🌻 I’ve sewn/crafted my whole life. Just recently dove into this quilting world!!! I’m soooo hooked on every aspect. Fabric- I loved the colors/prints! I could hear the scratchy sound, my first thought was heavy sizing. Needle minder-?do you put 1 on each side of the fabric!?! Book- ya it offered some good information, but I too think it is a lot of $ to spend on printing that to include in the box. Perhaps more of single type sheet or flash card or like someone said option to print if you prefer. Templates I’ve not used yet nor have I done any subscriptions. I’m Thankful for Holly and her knowledge and willingness to share it! You look darling today😀, and thank you for the breathing!!! 🥰❤️😀

I can see a template for odd shapes and circles but not for all the squares, rectangles & strips. I suspect you put the two needle minder leaves together on opposite sides of the fabric. I wonder how much money they waste on the fancy magazine that could be used for the box. I like a couple of the fabrics but they are too red for me. The pricing seems reasonable. For a beginner quilter this would probably be a good box because of the info in the magazine. For a seasoned quilter - not so much. I'd have to give it a 3.

Beautiful magazine but I started quilting with templates 30 years ago and would only want cutting directions for squares and rectangles. Nice projects. This looks like a good box for a beginner quilter, but two sets of the same fabrics are kind of a bummer. I like that the fabrics are usable colors and very pretty and fun. This seems to be a good box for someone wanting a value box and are a newer quilter. It may not be for everyone, but this still looks like a good box for the money.

The bold fabric prints (Marimekko style) were very cute. The magazine seems to be great for a very new quilter. Working with poor quality fabric is sad when it doesn’t wash well after you put lots of work into a project. The needle minder is cute - if you can figure out how it works. I would give it a C because of the quality of the fabric - easily could be a B if the fabric was a better feel.

I wonder what the fabric will feel like after it’s washed, sometimes stuff that feels like ‘napkin’ fabric washes and is softer to the hand. It would be interesting to know. The fabric is pretty, there seems to be a fair bit of it too.

Hmmm, so the prints on the fabric are cute. That being said, I would rather get a box with fabrics I know are good. I was wondering if the fabrics might have sizing on them. My friend has a discount fabric shop here. Some of the fabrics she has with sizing feel stiff and coarse. They feel okay once washed. They don't feel divine, just okay, but when I have bought fabric from her and used it I was knowingly buying a discount fabric.

Hi Holly! I've watched other channels where people really like the Mrs. Quilty box. I think the fabric is really cute and it's good that they give you lots of it. I think someone should try washing the fabric to see if that improves it as it might really be the sizing that's the problem. Although I have to say if I were going to buy a monthly box I'd like something with more variety. I think the needle minders are cute. It looks like they gave you two of them. I've done a lot of cross stitching and they would cone in really handy for that. I dont think quilters really need needle minders unless they do a lot of hand sewing. All that said, I agree that if Mrs. Quilty wants to have a good product they have a lot of room for improvement. Perhaps they should buy other company's boxes or at least watch videos of other boxes to get an idea of what quilters really want. I am not a fabric snob. I simply cant afford to be. Yet I've found sources where I can buy good quality fabric without breaking the bank. As you said Holly. Other boxes have similar price points and better boxes. So all in all I really think Mrs. Quilty needs to do some research and do still more improvement.

I’m wondering if their focus is new quilters transferring from garment sewing, where you cut or trace a pattern. Unfortunately the magazine reminds me of the quilt books from the late 80 early 90s before rotary cutters. I’ve inherited a few books recently from a friend after their grandma passed.

I would be very tempted to go ahead and wash one of those FQs and then compare it to the others. I do not pre-wash much fabric anymore, except for reds, purples, dark blues, but I would pre-wash fabric if there was the slightest hint that it had some kind of treatment on it. I need to know - before I take the time to piece a quilt with it - whether it will stand up to wear and tear and laundering. Also, I am on a kind of personal crusade against inferior quality fabric that says it is meant for quilting. I get a LOT of scraps and larger pieces of fabric from give-aways and other sources, and I can't believe how much of it is so thin you can almost see through it. I am constantly culling out fabric that is too thin from my quilting stash. I keep some of it for certain crafting projects where the thinness of the fabric doesn't matter, and I have used a lot of it for other things besides quilting. I also give a lot of it to little nieces and nephews to play with and practice sewing. Even the boys enjoy doing hand-stitching, and they love fabric scraps. So the thin fabric all goes to good use, but just NOT in any quilt that I make. For the price of fabric these days, we should demand better quality.

I do think the fabric felt better than what you get from big box stores (at least from my experience). I have come to realize that beginners are usually not looking for the quality of fabric I am though so for a beginner I think it's pretty good. I want to get more into that magazine though and see if there is really value in it or if it just looks nice.

I think this box is a decent beginner box. The magazine looks nice and I would’ve liked the advice when I started quilting again last December. Some of the fabric is cute (love the large flowers and animal prints), but I don’t like the 2 more traditional prints with these. Other than being red, white and blue, it lacks some cohesiveness to me. I can’t comment on fabric quality, but I trust Holly’s opinion. So, I’d give it an overall 6/10.

I think the magazine concept was nice and the patterns were fine (although I think the scale of some of the fabrics is too big to use on the houses). I agree with you on the quality of the fabric; I will not buy fabric that isn't from one of the reputable fabric manufacturers. A lot of time is spent on our projects and I think it's a waste of money to use inferior products that don't feel nice and won't last (and could possibly bleed when washed). I also wasn't a fan of the prints as they didn't really go well together. I really appreciate that you give honest reviews and allow subscribers to provide constructive feedback. If I was a company providing subscription boxes, I would find this feedback invaluable.

If you are just starting out it is OK to get a plain sewing machine. My first machine was a plain Kenmore with straight and zig zag stitches only. Used it for 30 years. When it comes to fabric ..I graduated from Wallmart fabric years ago. If you want a project to last for years such as a quilt , wallhanging, clothing or a nice bag then buy high quality fabric. For a beginner just dipping their toe into sewing and want a learning experience Mrs. QUILT would be ok. I myself would not buy the box. I give it a 3 out of 5.

Hi Holly, I re-watched the other 2 Mrs. Quilty boxes you opened 8 months ago just for comparison reasons. I think their book is helpful if you're new to quilting. As far as the fabric goes, the designs are cute and somewhat whimsical. It appears the fabric is not 100% cotton, but it's hard to tell without touching it. I know the box is only 29.97 but I would prefer getting 1 bundle of fabric (larger pieces) instead of 2 identical packages and maybe something else in the box. Overall I would give this box a "3"out of 5.

I am curious if there is just a protectant on the fabric. As far as the magazine goes. It's set up dumb. Have a tips and tricks section. What's new section. And put the patterns in as pattern and ditch the templates UNLESS it is a crazy cut out. Put the name of the patterns on the front over for easy recall.

You did a great job with your review. I am sitting here having just opened the November box. The fabric prints are desirable like you mentioned but the quality of the fabric is just not there (and where are the selvedges). It took me a while to figure out what and how to use the little gift. I quit after the first box but Mrs. Quilty thought that I wanted to be on hold. I think we are both on the same page now. I also get the Sew Sampler Box. I to think that this box is geared for a newer sewer. I've kept this box because of the quality products and I love this years block of the month. Happy sewing, Cheryl. ❤ P.S. I purchased two boxes last year from Mrs. quilty and liked the booklet, didn’t mind the templates, but I stopped the subscriptions because I felt the quality of the fabric was not good at all. I liked the Mrs. Quilty book which reminds me of the MSQC Block book. Lots of patterns, especially liked the house pattern, tips and it looked like a nice quality magazine. I liked the fabric patterns, especially the cherry pouf flower/tree thingy and animals. Question, is the last fabric of animals red or orange in with the animals. When you show the red fabrics on top of it, from my view it looks orange? Okay, you just flipped it back to the animals on dark blue fabric and the redish color definitely looks orange/rusty. With the needle minder - I'd just put it on my metal table lamp and stick a needle on it like I have the other ones...and I have a miniature table top trash can that I put my magnets and extra needle minders on. I have threaded needles on the lamp ones that my husband uses occasionally. It would be nice to know what value they place on everything. It does concern me that another viewer posted the fabrics bleed and that's horrific after putting in hours and hours on making a quilt just to wash it and it's ruined from the fabric bleeding. I've only had that happen once and it was a thread issue - I'm talking to you Coats and Clark! My first quilt and I didn't know the difference between Walmart thread that I had at home versus expensive thread like Aurifil from the quilt store. Did it saw in the magazine to wash the fabrics before cutting? Here's my next question, if you wash the fabrics first then do they have to be washed separately? I'm guessing so which I wouldn't like doing - I want to throw everything willy nilly into the washer and do one load not multiple - heaven forbid if I need to hand wash anything! Okay, they sent 16 fat quarters (pretty sure that was on the fabric label), two needle minders, and the magazine. If the fat quarters were $2.00 each, needle minders $5 for both and magazine $10 then it would be $47 value for the box $30 box plus shipping. I'd rather buy the magazine and the fabric yardage of the animals and the red cherry tree pouf. I like the amount of fabrics but I'm now leery of the fabric bleeding. If that's common with their fabric then I would put in a color catcher in the box instead of the needle minder. Reds are funny that's for sure. I love acrylic templates, LOVE THEM! I put those rubber sticker thingy's on the back of them (and rulers that glide easily) so they won't move around. Paper ones I copy onto 100# paper or see if I have an acrylic template of the size shone. I'm conflicted on this one. It does seem geared towards a beginner, I do like the patterns in the magazine (hey, wonder if those squiggles could be used in the book holder thingy along with other stuffing? If not, they would work great in the fire pit for starter) and the amount of fabric. If we are judging then I'm giving this an 8. Okay, I just saw Barb rate on a scale of 5, how soon I forget! I give this a 3.5. Holly! You just need some black construction paper eyebrows or a black eyebrow pencil - get your Freida on, embrace the artist!

Let's be fair, the price point is much less than other monthly subscriptions. The magazine would be more helpful to beginners if it taught about seam width and nesting seams and how to get points to match up, if you should cut fabric pieces.on the bias, more info on how to sew some of the.pattern pueces together than just, "sew the pieces together. As a mostly beginner, that is what is important to me. I don't see any reviewers actually sewing the I dicated projects. No reviewer has noted that there has been a checked fabric in every box for the past 3 months. I do like having a quilt block in every magazine.❤

Well I think I just love your hair today!! ❤️ Oh you know what my fingers are gunna say. Why why why?? Must they spend all that $$$ in making a decorative box that just going to be thrown away, and all that info in the book, not needed as we have RU-vid, google all these places to learn. In the early 60’s there was nothing. I’m straying, plus those shavings in the box!!??? Why are there shavings in my box??? I think you are being to kind with fabric and box giving it a 6. I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. Also Templates you have to cut our??? Really??? Save $$ on fancy box, big fancy book, shaving and add a ruler!! Plus make fabric a little better quality. If fabric doesn’t feel good enough for me to make a blouse out of and put it on my body I’m not going to make a quilt out of it to put on my body!! I think for a beginner cutting templates then fabrics would be way to much. ❤️ 🤗 Holly sorry I want them to do better so my thoughts 😢

FYI - i bought one of their kits and I found the exact same fat quarter bundle on Amazon and Temu for sale - exact same fabric collection - so I'm guessing they are importing the fabric they use in their boxes

That is what I think. They must source from the same place Temu does. Walmart’s fabrics are much better then what I got from Temu.

Ok. I'm not opposed to templates. Id prefer not having to use them unless I need to. Patterns on their own would be great instead of the magazine. It would probably lower the printing cost as well. I love a needle minder, but i do tons of hand sewing. Designs on the fabrics are nice. Quality of fabric is very important. The way it looks and the way it feels work together to make you want to create with it. If you don't have both it won't get used.

I thought the fabric was great looking! Magazines cost $$ to produce, especially colors. The templates I saw were mostly straight lines and easily replicated with a ruler with the measurements included. The cost was lower than most. I guess I'd have to make and wash something to be sure of quality.

I was not impressed with the Mrs. Quilty box. The fabric sounded like paper when it was being opened up to be shown. And I fully believe that if you require or suggest template use. The templates should be included in plastic so they don't get ruined while cutting, and they can be reused then. I'll stick with other subscription boxes.

I think this box would be fine for beginners. The fabric design is cute and I can see people liking it. Any box, for me, is all about the fabric, and I only use quilt store quality fabric. I don't like paper templets, but if you are just starting out and don't have all the rulers and templets, it might be great. Good price point. For me, no

I think this box would be great for a BRAND NEW quilter. Someone show doesn’t know how to pick fabric, doesn’t want to spend a lot of money learning on first projects. And also doesn’t know a lot about notions. (The needle minder btw is just one but you can chose which side you want to look at). Also isn’t this the company that is almost impossible to cancel?? That right there is a huge deal breaker for me. That and customer service is two things I look at before doing business with any company. I did like the print on the fabric but I can literally hear that it isn’t good quality. Sounds like Walmart fabric honestly.

Hi Holly, I like the designs of the fabrics but because they sounded like they are stiff, I’d probably pass on the box. I purchased a kit once which had fabric that was awful quality and felt full of sizing. I tried washing it but ended up throwing it all away and buying new good quality fabrics to make the pattern. The needle minder for quilting doesn’t do a thing for me. I used them for needlework but just put my needle and pins in a pin cushion or in a magnetic bowl for quilting. I have no interest in paper templates either. The book looks very much like one for a young person starting to sew. But I don’t agree with some of the advice, especially about a sewing machine. From the beginning I bought the best machine I could afford. Basically I’d give this box a 4/10. I’d never subscribe to it. Sorry Mrs. Quilty. Be well and happy this week my friend. XOXO Carol from down the road

As someone who has been sewing and quilting for 40+ years, this is a definite no for me. Simple vs fancy machine is a personal choice. I have both and use them both for different things. I wouldn't say this is necessarily good for beginners because someone just starting out is forming lifelong sewing habits. Start with good fabric from the beginning as it makes it easier to learn without the headache of learning with poor fabric. I'm with Holly in that I prefer measurements as opposed to templates. The girls and I give it a 4/10. 🤷‍♀️

I agree with your assessment Holly. I always buy the best quality fabric I can afford because after all the work of making a quilt I want a quality product. And good quality fabric is nicer to work with. Also the magazine has unnecessary information eg all those pages on pins. You can google it if you need info. You don’t want to pay for info you don't need. I don't think a magazine is required. I'd rather just have a pattern. Templates to me are very old fashioned and most people would rotary cut with rulers and machine piece a house block using current techniques. Too slow using templates. Even though the sizes of the pieces to cut are supplied I still find the templates off-putting. And it's unnecessary pages in the magazine. That to me is a real negative with this box.

The fabric sounds crunchy instead of soft. Maybe they do have a lot of sizing. I guess washing it would help you find out if that were true. However, I can’t say that I would buy this box. Sorry😢

I watched this video and a couple of others last night and just literally received my first box 20 minutes ago. I have to say this video highly influenced me and I was ready to admit that I made a bad decision before I even opened the box). Quite the opposite happened though, I opened the box (I believe this is actually the January box, I saw others opening the same one) and was more than thrilled at the quality of the fabric. It's very tight-woven dress fabric and it's been starched, that's why it has a slick feel. The starch will wash out. The fabric itself is very good quality and I would say it's a very lightweight twill, similar to something you would use on bedroom pillows for example. With 16 fat quarters and the little wrist pincushion, I think it's a great deal, considering fat quarters where I live are around $2.99-3.99, so $48 to $64 in fabric alone and the box is about $40 with shipping and tax. I absolutely love 4 of the patterns, so those 8 fabrics (you get 2 of each color/pattern) would cost about as much in the fabric store as the whole box. There's a 5th fabric I know I'll use, not crazy about the color, (the green gingham), so all in all, I think it's a great value, with really nice fabric and beautiful prints. I was afraid it would be the cheaper Walmart type fabric with bad printing and not so tightly woven and coarse threads. it's nothing like that at all.

I unsubscribed after a few months. People have said this would be great for beginners but with all the errors in the patterns, I can see beginners being very frustrated. Secondly, the fabric bundle I received one month was exactly the same as a bundle I saw on Temu's website for a little over $3. If they get their fabric from Temu, you are paying less than $7 for the fabric and $23 for the box, the book and the needle minder. Sorry but no more for me.

I'm also not a template person. I do like they give lots of information, but I'd rather they put the money that it took to make the booklet and put it into more notions or better fabrics and a pattern.

The fabric in this box looks cute. However, my impression is that this is not quality made fabric. It looks like the temu of subscription boxes. First thing i noticed was the americana theme. Not going to say anymore but you see that a lot from other countries trying to get Americans to buy their product. The magazine? I guess that's nice but it's just more wasted paper in my opinion. I do think the needle minders are cute!

I’m confused. Is this fabric box one that everyone should receive for October 2023.? My box contained fabrics of fruits and vegetables and I am disappointed. I would expect a box representing fall, Autumn! Pumpkins, leaves etc, not summer fruits and veggies. I did send a note to them, but so far did not receive a response. In saying that, if I don’t hear back from Mrs Quilty by The end of this week, I am canceling my subscription unfortunately

I think you should actually MAKE the product and WASH THE FABRICS, then determine how you feel about the fabric. It may surprise you..... There may have been lots of starch or sizing on them, which goes away after washing. So give it a try before you write the whole thing off. It might surprise you.

All in all, I'm still not impressed with Mrs. Quilty. It's good that they listened and asked for feedback, but they really didn't make a lot of changes. The only positive differences I see are the physical box is nicer to look at - but we don't subscribe to fabric delivery for the pretty box, do we? - and they added the dimensions to the templates. The fabric is still low quality, there are still two identical bundles instead of sixteen unique pieces, and the magazine is still really only useful to a true beginner (also their use of a large font & full-page photos/templates make the magazine look like it contains more info/articles than it actually does). I'll give them 1 star for the sturdy shipping box rather than a plastic envelope, 1 for managing to have a print that I liked despite the Americana/red-white-and-blue theme (I *really* dislike Americana, but that animal print was rather nice), and 1 for the price - $30 for 16 fat quarters and a notion is quite good - bringing this to a grand total of 3 stars out of 10 for me.

The solid red fabric, doesn’t even sound like the cotton prints in that box. Too much sizing?. I pressed all the fabric in my first box. Nice, they pressed up fine. Temu quality fabric. I even have the same prints included in a Mrs. Quilty box, i bought on Temu. Thin but sews up fine.

After looking at the website, i get the feeling this box is not put together by a quilt shop. Not saying it's not a legit business but the products for sale on the website are generic, kinda like imported stuff. The addresses given in the legal documents are in the Netherlands and a shipping warehouse in Oregon. The "our story" is non specific. The giveaway to me was the glossy magazine. No mom and pop shop pays for that type of printing and puts mediocre fabric in the box. If you like the box, cool. Just my opinion, but it feels like a corporate business generated subscription box, rather than a box from an actual quilting business like Cottoncuts, FQS, MSQ, etc. YMMV.

This box does not appeal to me. The fabric is cute. I would be curious to see how the fabric washes up. The magazine looks like you would need to take it apart to get the templates. It has 3 projects, but 2 just appear to be blocks. The fabric being fat quarters could limit the projects you can make.

I dont think anyone needs to give advice on machines in a box like this. I have had both cheaper machines and now a Bernina. They both have worked for me as I grew as a quilter. Like you said get what you can afford. I like the fabric prints and the idea of a quilt booklet, but templates ofr basic quilt shapes? Ewww if I was just beginning I wouldn't keep quilting. I love the fabric prints but I agree the fabric needs to be quality in feel and texture.
