The Latera implant can be inserted under local anaesthetic and reduces wall collapse. I discuss it in this video.

A simple procedure that may eliminate surgery and therefore keeps the cost down makes perfect sense. Though some Medical Groups and ENT Surgeons may be reluctant to offer this since it's less money coming their way. Thank You Dr Veer...

Pleasure. The surgeon doesn't get more cash for using more exciting surgery, we just get paid by the hour on the NHS. But I guess privately that might be the case.

Hi thank you so much for this informative video, do you know if the latera implant has yet been used in the NHS ? I can only find one uk surgeon who seems to perform it. I have an irrational fear of general anaesthetic and the risks of a functional rhinoplasty going wrong and having to go under general anaesthetic again if it was to go wrong. Thank you if you read this 🙏

Great video Dr Veer! Really interesting topic and will defo look into this myself! Looking forward to the next one! Also found myself rewatching many of your old videos following my tonsillectomy and pharyngoplasty with yourself. Finally feel like I’m getting better and better, still not 100% but getting there. Can’t wait for the barbed suture vs expansion sphincter video!

Glad you are making a recovery. At the 8 week mark the catabolic state will be falling off and you will be replacing your protein / muscle stores. Keep going!

enlarged turbinates, deviated septum, nasal wall collapse - I seem to have all three. Breathe Right strips seem to help me. I've been wondering. Would the Latera implant hold my nose open as wide as the Breathe Right strips, or would they hold my nose open as wide as it sits before I try to take a quick breath thru my nose?

I’m in the US and have been researching this for my collapsed nasal valves. I had septoplasty with turbinate reduction but still have narrow, flimsy nostrils. Thanks for covering the topic 👍🏻

I'm pretty sure I have all three. I definitely have a pretty badly deviated septum that generally blocks the right side. However, if I lie on my left side, my left side gets blocked and my right side has fairly weak air flow. I'm guessing that's the turbinates causing the blockage? I also can feel my right nasal side collapse when I'm trying to sleep, which will lead to me snorting from my right side of my nose. This seems to have gotten better since using nasal strips. I need to get this sorted out because it is affecting my sleep. I wish you were my doctor! You seem so nice!

I am being treated at Royal London and recently I had a massive adenoid removed and septoplasmi but one side of my nose is always blocked. It depends what side I sleep on, the nos on that side blocks. How can I get to referred to you instead of the other doctors please? My heartbeat is erratic, I stop breathing during sleep and nothing has improved after the surgery.

Doc what if u have alot of the bone on one side damaged and u need significant amount of more structure there to support the nose being open.

Lots of ways to deal with that. Speak to a rhinologist as they are best at dealing with these problems.

Hello I live in Wales is it available all over the UK or just England please as this is something I desperately need to have done , I have sleep apnea can’t tolerate CPAP because I have a deviated septum this could be a game changer for me . Is this something that you do privately in your practice please ? As I don’t think my GP would refer me to London sadly . Thank you for all the work you do and the information that is so very valuable to so many of us 🙏

Hi, answered this before. I prefer to avoid middle fossa surgery. I go trans mastoid or use the round window baffle. Probably best to find someone that does all three.

Thoughts on vivaer vs latera?

@VikVeerENTSurgeon

two different operations for different problems. latera is for lateral wall collapse and vivaer is for turbinates. I'm not a fan of vivaer, i think the risk is too great, but i understand that some people have good results with it. i will look at the data one day but i instinctively don't like the concept due to the risks of ENS. but i've not used the device before. I have used devices very similar in the past so i'm pretty sure that it will have similar issues. i know its big in America so I don't want to talk too much about it - perhaps one day I'll come round to it - but right now its not something i would consider for my own patients. I'm basically too scared of permanent damage.
