The new Milwaukee M12 FUEL™ 1/2” X 18” Bandfile 2482-20 was covered in our other video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U33Q0wmtfU0.html - released this week, but in this iteration we'll be doing a deep dive into the tool where we explore its features in-depth and also put it head-to-head against two other predecessor tools from Milwaukee: the M12 FUEL™ 3" Compact Cut Off Tool (#2522-20), which was adapted for bandfile functionality, and the Milwaukee 5.5 Amp Bandfile (#6101). We'll be comparing the new bandfile against the adapted cut-off tool and older bandfile, going over pros and cons, looking at things like belt placement and other particulars, and more.
If you have this tool or one of the older iterations, let us know what you think about it in the comments below. And if you like this video, please 'like' it. If you're not already a subscriber to the channel, please consider doing so. Thanks for watching!

First, you DO NOT have to hold down the locking mechanism when decompressing the arm when placing a belt , it will lock on its on. If you find it difficult to compress the arm you can also press it down against a table instead of using your hand. Second, you need to make sure the belt is fully seated around the drive wheel before placing it on the arm, this will give you ample length to reinstall the belt. I made the same mistake when I installed my first belt. Beware that some aftermarket belts may not be a strict 18" making the replacement a little more difficult.

I like compressing the mechanism by hand, but I guess this is a case of do what works best for you. I feel like I have a better feel for what the mechanism is doing if I do it by hand. I don't think you need to have the belt perfectly aligned prior to releasing tension. Everything should center up on the drive wheels. You should be running the tool slowly or bumping the trigger to make sure the belt is tracking properly after each time you change a belt anyhow. Belt adjustment isn't a big deal, but it could definitely catch up new gamers. At the end of the day if what your doing works for you and you aren't having tool failures, a band file is a great tool to have in the arsenal. Thanks for the comment.

Great content and review. I recently bought the unit you tested. Question: Will the 3/8" Milwaukee band file arm fit the 1/2" power unit, and, if so, is the 3/8"x12"(?) band file arm available separately from Milwaukee?

That is a great question, I do not have an answer for you but I'll try and do some digging and find out. I'm thinking the two tools should be similar. The drive wheel may be a different size between them.

Wish you would have done a fair comparison to the original 1/2"x 18" adapter kit I made. It is significantly better than the 3/8. And cheaper than the new tool. Thanks

I might be able to make that happen.

I got some ideas to get some real comparisons with some data to compare. I gotta make up a few rigs but it should be fun.

I read in the specs somewhere that the origin is China, is this written on the box?

It says right on it, Made in China. Pretty hard to avoid with most the big brands these days unfortunately.

@@TalkingHandsTools Thanks You’re unfortunately right which leaves me in a dilemma.

I can't argue with that. One of the reasons I like older tools is they weren't outsourced there. Milwaukee was in Germany and the US through the mid 2000s the last place was The Czech Republic in the late 2000s with the Lok Tor and first of the V28. Eventually I'd like to follow the progression of all that a little better on the channel.

40 would be brutal. I'm looking into doing some further testing, I think we are going to use paper from Harbor Freight on all of the tools. What do you like to run on your band file?

Thats quite an assortment. Let me know how they hold up for you. Sometimes the cheaper products are a better value, especially with consumables like sandpaper.
