I enjoyed this interview as I think he was very humble during this entire thing. His only brother and I are long time friends. Now he is VERY much a family man. I've enjoyed his concerts when he was with his group Raydio and his solo career. I remember when he bought the house for his parents in Southfield an exclusive upgraded area in Detroit. I'm glad he's doing well and I wish he and his family nothing but the best. 🤗 He truly deserves everything he has because he earned it.
Someone posted the following comment here, over a year ago, and it applies to me as well: "I was curious about his interview, and was only going to watch a few minutes of it. But I found myself listening to the whole thing. Ray Parker really is a down to earth guy."
I was wondering WHERE he was! Ray Parker jr. interview was awesome and he taught us all a lot on the industry! I appreciate him sharing his story and wisdom about the industry! Thanks Ray!
I'm totally inspired listening to Ray Parker Jr. Not only is he one of the greatest musicians, but he's a cool dude! Great interview for those stuck in dead end jobs.
Ray Parker Jr is in a class by himself, as a teen I grew up listening to all his tunes bought every album he ever made before and after going solo.I was shy back then and learnt a lot of lines to say to girls from his music lol ! 😂 boy back then growing up I got lots of girls .thanks Ray am now 56 yrs young married and settled still a big fan listening to his music, God bless you happy you are still around 🎊🌟👍💿📀💽💪🙏
I find him more handsome now than back then in the 70s and 80s. I wish they would have had in depth interviews like this with artist of the past. Makes them so reaI, and approachable. Takes them off the pedestal fans put famous people on. I really felt like I understood more of his personality and charm, as well as his intellect!! A very likeable guy!!! Kuddos Ray!!
All the greatest musicians are dying too soon, gotta enjoy this humble down to earth man while he's still around. Mr Parker I love your music God bless you.
The knowledge he just dropped is priceless and if you seek advice from a music lawyer it would cost...kudos to Ray and may success always be his friend
This guy is literally a musical genius. IMO he's right up there with all the greats and if you've listened to the radio for about the last 40 years he's written a significant number of the songs you grew up with.
Thank you Ray for that adviceIi am a musician and songwriter this information was very helpful. Thank You from the days of RAYDIO , Jack and Jill, Love those songs when you were in a group and solo artist you have always inspired me . God bless you, you are A very gifted person.
One of the Classiest men in the music business since day one. I grew up with his music and still love it all to this day!!! Ray is THE man!! God really blessed Ray, because he knew he could handle it!!
Such a lot of great insight and advice for not only music - but for life too! Whatever you want to do, go after it full force. Even if it fails, you'll atleast know you gave it your all - and that will always give you the courage to try again, try something else, whatever...just keep moving forward like the general he spoke of! I was a big fan of his as a teenager. I loved his voice and James Ingram too! I've recently been listening again to a lot of the 80s R&B...aah memories! So glad Mr. Parker is happy and healthy and still sharing his gifts with us 💕 Thank you!
Incredible interview on perhaps the most underrated Pop/Soul/R&B artist of all time. The list of legendary musicians he's written for, or collaborated with, is incredible. And the list of musicians who grew up in or lived in the metro Detroit area is insane. Very cool.
Hugely inspiring Producer, Musician and a fab human being. His name on the countless credits are just a testament to his giftings as a in demand session player as well. Fully packaged!
I absolutely enjoyed this, and found myself sitting here at my desk acting like a church-congregation member... "well..." "go head, brotha.." "preach the word!" ..etc. ..lol.. What a down-to-earth, intelligent, thoughtful, and knowledgeable guy.
Ray is not only an accomplished guitarist, but he is also a tech geek and private pilot. I remember when we connected over a decade ago he had Cisco setup in his home with servers. He was also into programming. Really smart guy!
I grew up listening to Ray Parker Jr and Raydio. I so enjoyed this interview, not only is he so talented and humble but has very deep understanding the music business .
3:22 When he said "I'm going to play you the rhythm track for Superstition") I had said to myself "Stevie is going to start singing "Superstition" True and very cool :-D
Ray has always been an idol of mine and someone as a kid I looked up to and emulate. He has always been a positive roll model. I really appreciate hearing his advice.
This might have been the best spent half hour in my life. This guy puts more wisdom in one sentence than Kaye West has ever strung together in his entire life. Yes, I am that frustrated old guitarist that has always said he could do it. I am 55 but still feel life hasn't really started yet as I have not gone out there and do what I have always believed was inside me. Ray Parker Jr, you're more inspirational than anyone I have listened to before. This interview should be used in all music lessons around the world!!! BTW, what an incredibly nice guy he is. One of the most genuine celebs. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Ray, you got a very interesting musical background. What more can I say, but I love your "Ghostbusters" theme song. You are a very down to earth kind of guy.
This is good stuff. I made my son watch this video. Ray is telling it like it is. Ray's advice is applicable to other arts as well. Thanks so much Ray.
Ray you are genius I knew that the first time I heard you I'm a drummer/vocalist and I have your albums love your voice sounds like you were talking that's the way I felt.if you have any new music I'm ready to hear it. 💯 💯 💯 💯 💯
From the moment I listen to Ray's music and saw his videos, I thought to myself, what a cool and smooth musician. He and many other Detroit artists, grew up a stone's throw from my neighborhood. What a humble, and ageless man. Kinda like Billy Dee Williams! 🙏
Been a fan of Ray since 1978. Back then, Ray music was not like others. He had his own sound. some of my favorite song to this day is Rock On, A woman needs Love , Two Places At the same time. I still have those original albums today.
ray parker jr name is on the back of a lot of album covers so that tells you what kind of guitar player he is just listen to want ads by honey cone when he was a teenager or fish aint biting by lamont dozier
Ray Parker Jr. man you still are so handsome 😍. Such a wise man with wonderful advice to the beginners and up comming stars 🌟. Such a beautiful smile still.
Gonna say it now not even half way through, this is genius. Wish I had seen this a long time ago. Bill Withers is another guy I could listen to all day, wisdom and thankfulness from these Motown legends.
This is one of the good thing of our time to finally meet those artists and musicians who were with us all the time in our early days. I’m about his age, and the only info I had at taht time was on the record or in some magazines. And now it’s like meeting our neighbour😆 Thxs!!!!
