Backstage at the Emmys, Ray Parker Jr. saw Jordan Peele and approached him. He told him in person how funny he thought this skit was. He later commented on an interview that he thought Jordan looked nervous when he first approached, as if he wasn't sure how Ray would react. Turns out Ray thought the whole thing was hilarious.

What's ironic is Ray Parker Jr. really wrote a number of popular songs that people didn't know he wrote. Like "Mr Telephone Man" for New Edition to "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing" performed by Leo Sayers. And he was the guitarist for artists such as Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight to Stevie Wonder. He had a very unbelievable career.

First of all, it's not normal or healthy to be so obsessively upset about someone ripping off a song well over 30 years ago (especially when they got sued over it anyway). This is such a masterful skit that I can't help but revisit. The set-up itself is hilarious without a doubt, but the details in this are absolutely exquisite. Like "*Ghostbusters not included" and his facial expressions. So many things tightly packed in this 2+ minute skit. Nothing short of a masterwork.

I've known of this skit for years.. One of my favs of Key & Peele.. Was showing it to a workmate today, she was absolutely cracking up to it!.. These two subtle bits are couple of my favourite parts, mixed in with the rest of this work of pure comedy genius.. This vid went down so well, then had her absolutely wetting herself to the Mr T public service announcement, and the Gremlins 2 writers room.. Comedy gold.. 😂😂😂❤

What's funny is that the song Ghostbusters was made intentionally to sound like a Huey Lewis and the News song after they couldn't get HLatN to sign off to make a song for the soundtrack. There was eventually a lawsuit and settlement because of it where Huey Lewis was given a gag order where he could not disclose of the details. But basically the song Ghostbusters was a rip-off of a Huey Lewis song, I Want A New Drug.

Hilarious skit caused me to do a deep dive on Parker, Jr.'s background and catalog a little while ago. Ray Sr. was an auto worker. Ray chose music over finishing college. Amazing work including rhythm guitar for Chaka Khan and others. His own songs for Raydio and solo work are funky and even rockin'! Certainly no one hit wonder like this may make one think. A lot of the songs I had heard and enjoyed as a little kid, just didn't know who he was until Ghostbusters when I was entering late childhood. Check him out!

It's one of my favourites, plus my lil girl loves Ghostbusters so I'm watching both original movies fairly often. I haven't seen any comments though mentioning how he seems to actually be spoofing the Run DMC song from Ghostbusters 2, not the Ray Parker Jr song from the first movie.

Ray Parker Jr actually wrote a ton of hit songs but he will always be remembered for the ghostbuster theme song which was a note for note ripoff of "Soulfinger" or "I need a new drug" depending on who you ask. It's a shame really that he will be remembered for a novelty song when he had much better hits before and after that came out.

No one talks about the first frame of this skit enough, like Ray Parker Jr. is having a massive throwback of his entire life lmao ! The beginning and the end are the same, it's a loop : he's imprisoned, trapped into a space-time continuum where all that's left for him is to write songs no one ever listened to (and surely no one will).
