Rest in peace Joe B. Mauldin. Once of the great rock n roll pioneers along with Buddy Holly and J.I. Allison. Joe left this earth this past Saturday, February 7, 2015. A true gentleman I had the pleasure of meeting several times along with J.I., Sonny Curtis and Glen D. Hardin. So glad I had the pleasure of hearing them play together on multiple occasions when they came home to Lubbock, Texas. Legends all of them!!

These guys were the influence for Beatles, even the name was derived from the Crickets.

He was also a song writer, and session musican for the Everley brother's, eddie cochran and many more. Buddy Holly's death overshadowed and eventually almost blanked out the rest of the band, with many assuming buddy did everything and wrote all the songs. Which isn't true at all. Truth is buddy holly at the time of his death was a fading star whose last 3 releases prior to his death failed to make the billboard 100, he was always more popular in Europe than in his native country.. After Holly's death " it doesn't matter anymore" was immediately released to hopefully cash in on his death, it only scraped into the billboard top 100 but made no.1 in the UK. He had a few more top 20 hits in the UK during the early 60s but nothing in the usa, his popularity rose after the beatles performed many of his songs and mentioned his name in TV and radio interviews in the UK during the early part of 1963 when they were taking off like a rocket in the UK, as a result of this 3 buddy holly recordings were issued in the UK all making the top 10 and as a result of this 2 of those were issued in the usa but didn't do well. So early death, name check from the beatles and a musical later turned into a movie plus " American pie" help his legacy enormously.. Many of his recordings today that are regarded as classics that initially didn't sell well have sold many more copies after his death over the years than they initially did. Many history books ignore the facts in favour of the latter popularity of him. You only need to check out his discography to find songs you'll know well that are listed as " uncharted" or very low chart positions in the usa

@@alanhodges8839 I love the music of Buddy Holly also, but you should at least listen to early Beatles. The Beatles always said that the American rock and rollers where their idols growing up. In fact Sir Paul would throw a party every year on Buddy’s birthday. He still might be doing it.

If Buddy hadn’t died in that plane crash the crickets would’ve been just as big if not bigger than the Beatles in the 60s as Buddy was planning to start recording with them again after he got back from that tour that he was killed during

Actually, Jerry & Joe did not leave the Crickets. It was Buddy who left to pursue a solo career. The Crickets soldiered on for many years after Buddy died, with a revolving lineup around Jerry.

These goons shouldn’t have sided with Norman Petty, Buddy wouldn’t have even done that ill-fated winter tour.
