Hiiiiii!!!! can't believe this was uploaded 10 years ago!! hope you're still active these days!! Time goes so fast! i believe the time i got into this *precious* video was about 6.5 years ago. i remember myself being a 6th grade kid, on her summer vacation, just found out the term 'typography' and went crazy about it. to found this gold video again, i had to scroll down to my 3000+ 'Liked videos' playlist, so glad i found you again Karen the impression of a girl in her glasses being really passionate about typo and her high quality colorful video is rl in my heart (feel so nostalgic now) i am now a freshman of an art student, and when we searched 'typography' on RU-vid, your video won't appear, and that's a great loss for kids these days who want to learn 'Typo'...

I just looked up Papyrus to see what it was, finally. I can't see myself using it for anything. I can now say I know next to nothing about typography, rather than nothing! I may not be into it but I can appreciate the work done by those who are. Thanks for this, Karen.

she's pointing out typography, but completely ignored the graffiti hand styles at 1:01, hand styles are the evolution of typography. besides that good video, I appreciate the amount of work that went into this.

I think your vidoes rock...says an over the hill (40+) typography lover. Love watching. One word on today's it would be hard for a beginner to really understand the difference between kerning and tracking. I know you try to keep it short but.... You still do an amazing job. Thanks much!!

You know what? this video is pretty good. I've rewatched it a few times now but I really don't feel like it teaches the viewer very well. It's too fast pace and doesn't expand on alot of topics topics. For an example, in the first lesson on lesson one, it would have been nice to hear how ascenders work and what other letters they are common in. But then, before you know it, Lesson 3 has already begun at 1:03

Currently I am in a Typography class and this video is very helpful. Also, I sent this video link to my instructor informing her that it can be helpful in her future classes. Thanks for uploading all these videos.

In our daily writing, actually, we didn`t pay much attention on typography. We just use Microsoft word, and choose whatever looks comfortable. As I worked with our assignment leader who is a design major student, she is very sensitive with typography. In fact, her suggestions are always right, the document which is formatted by her looks perfect. This video I watched for many times. I watched other your videos as well in order to help me learn more about typography and related topics such as colors, logos. You present the topics in an interesting way, and you can appeal my attention. At first I only want to learn some about typography, but in fact I almost watched all your videos. As you gave the tour, I started to have a look at the logos, titles I saw in streets, some were good, some were terrible. In a word, a good design do have a big effect! I will try to present typography in a simple and interesting way like you.

There is one single scenario where in I feel it's okay to use Papyrus. And that's when handing in an essay about Egypt - but it has to be done properly. After it's printed, smear it over with coffee, and then bake it in the oven at low heat, until it's browned up and crispy. Then hand it in. But that's really the only scenario where it's mildly okay to use either of the two fonts..

Learning the basics of typography seems to be very important, and I hadn't thought about it until you started talking about it!!! I'd be very interested in more of these type of videos. Also, you may have answered this before, but why is it a complete typography crime to use comic sans and papyrus?

i have this theory that most if not all designers once loved using comic sans once they discovered the font selections. i mean it's a nice looking font at first. i figure to learn visually you must discover and love the fonts you like, whether or not you receive info of them being overused. then, as time goes by, you may tend to see them a lot or get bored of them. i don't really like the advice of not using papyrus or comic sans if you're not aware visually why you shouldn't.
