here's my take on the symbolism: "friend" is the soul. jacob is the body. whitehead is the moral part of us. cutler and o'niel are human greed. friend must be the soul, for he cannot die. jacob is the body, he is always hungry and in pain.
Looks like I’ve hit the motherload! Brought up on a diet of Alan Garner, and deeply affected by pretty much every film/book/tv play mentioned by Adam. Need to find out how to watch A Field in England. Anyone else seen The Feast yet? Classic folk horror, very Garner!
Yes, Children of the Stones, The Owl Service made a big impression on me as a youngster. Not sure if the Beasts "Baby" episode or the extremely weird Artemis 81 counts as folk horror, but they have stuck in my memory too.
This film has nothing to do with politics. It’s a great film. And don’t presume that people are going to watch it on the back of your personal review of this great film. I think your review is pathetic.
What an incredibly disgraceful to interact with people you don't know. Amazing, Vincent. You do realise there are layers here referencing John Kelly and John Dee? Once you know even a tiny amount about them, then you realise it is impossible to not link this to 'politics' in a broad sense. The Irish, Welsh and Western English ( the more Briton parts ancestrally ) backed the Royal family against an emerging yeaoman progressiveness and independent liberal type ideas. So, ask yourself the irony that implies, in a modern context for a start. It is not a mistake he chose an Irish Royalist, who behaved as a royal and raked the others over the coals?
