Astronomy at X-ray wavelengths is carried out using space-based detectors, many of which record individual photon interaction events, with information on event location, time and energy. This lecture provides a simple demonstration of how such data can be used to generate images, spectra and light curves of the sources observed. The common data analysis package HEASoft is introduced, and python based notebooks are used to illustrate a few tasks including finding a Gamma Ray Burst, detecting a Pulsar and spectral analysis using response matrix and forward fitting.
