Hello there, this tutorial video is AN INTRODUCTION!!! - TO THE #SIDEPULL!!! - #HACKAMORE!!! - FOR BEGINNERS!!! - PART 1 is brought to you by #REININGTRAINING, #HORSETRAINING, #HORSES, #CLASSICALTRAINING, #BLUEDIAMONDREINERS, and the LINKS Below, which shows how useful they can be in giving your horse a comfortable start. It can be used in such a way that your saddle work can be understood in a meaningful way without a bit in the horses mouth. This video was filmed with an apple iPad pro, iPhone 12 , Pixio/Pixem robotic camera system shot at 1080p 60fps with a Rode's Wireless GO lavalier mic system, the coffee was provided by the starbucks rewards program giving you a behind the scenes technical look on how to educate a horse with what you want. The video offers you in site on aid placement to correctly formulate balanced movement with the uneducated horse. While watching the video you will see parts and pieces of what's necessary to guide the horse while making them understand vertical balance which keeps them standing up so they don't lean on your aids while working over their back. The correct use of legs and hands will provide a positive learning experience for the animal and for yourself. You must provide enough time between asking with your aide to give the horse a chance to understand what your after, so be extremely patient. A lot of this is learning how to ride from your seat using the saddle as a tool and backing up your actions with the reins that you hold in your hands. Your personal balance of your seat bones is also critical in the behavior and balance of the animal as well, which keeps your aids at the correct length in order to achieve this harmony of understanding while moving across the ground. There will be many times of which you will have to revisit by showing the horse over and over and over again the exact same aid connection to the movement in order to attain vertical balance without the horse leaning on the aids. You will find thousands of applications of leg to rein or rein to leg to make the horse understand what you're after so the horse can do the exercise all on its own without any intervention. The great challenge to all this is having the horse soft enough in movement with an understanding of what's needed to apply the suppleness of movement in all the gaits. Please enjoy this video and other videos that I have provided on the channel. You can engage with us as I'm used to answering a lot of questions which involve very personal issues about individual horses that riders are seeking answers to. Within the many clinics that I've provided we cover a whole host of issues that all participants can learn from which becomes very informative to all.

Hi! I’m adopting a small Belgian from a rescue...the lovely rescuer has suggested a hackamore as his last job before hitting the kill pen (he’s a healthy, sound 15 yo) was at a dude ranch...lots of her rescues suffer broken teeth and other bit injuries so I’m all for this change. I would love to see more on working with a horse switching from bit to hackemore...thanks! Loved this video!

Hi there, that's great, as you can well imagine the transfer back is very simple as the hackamore works through two handed application just like riding with a snaffle. You can also teach the horse how to go one handed with the application of your seat and legs, basically riding through the saddle. Thank you very much for the comment.

A good idea for video would be to demostrate saddle cues!🏇

Hey Susan , that’s a great idea, never thought of that. Are there particular saddle cues that you and other viewers interested in.? Thank you very much

I really enjoyed this. I am subscribing. You explained withiut being a jerk. Some people are so stuck on certain ways of doing things but never consider that horses have their own likes and dislikes. Good stuff

Hello Grace, I was shopping at an English tack shop many years ago. I do believe that it’s possible to find something suitable at a Western tack shop as well. Please pay attention to the quality of the product as not all leather is equal. Thank you very much for the question 😃

Can you show more about how to use your hands with the sidewall? Also can you explain "doubling"?

You can use your hands just like a basic one ring snaffle bit...side pulls are just about direct pressure with no leverage mechanisms so is about as uncomplicated as it gets. Some horses do absolutely great in them especially when they are the real sensitive types. Make sure they are fitted properly - not too low. So you can use your hands like a snaffle with the side-pull so is different from the bosal hackamore, in which you need to use your hands/ride differently. And, therefore is one of the reasons I really like them. I like the sidepulls with the rawhide noseband - you get a bit more light feel but you can still ride with very soft hands. Plain leather is good for youngsters.

I love side pulls..I had a national champion western pleasure mare, who I put back into a side pull as she was just too sensitive to any bit - the nose pressure worked great for her - she rode all by seat anyway - but she collected up great with the side pull with the rawhide nose band with real soft hands for a lead change or something, anything in her mouth just made her not be fully relaxed. Real shame you can't show in them - really stupid rules that way. Btw, this mare you have looks a bit off in front...and just looks touchy in front or she is an odd/stiff mover...

Specify. It is a mechanical hackamore. Saying hackamore is too generalized. Because there is also the traditional hackamore that does not have leverage.

Why do your horse slow its head too much?
@hockeycoach1on1

Hi there, in our training we strengthen the horses back by stretching the lift through the carriage and frame. In doing this it starts building muscle to start with teaching collection. Thank you very much for the question
