The Jeep Compass is more like a pair of trail-running sneakers than heavy hiking boots.

With the new Grand Cherokee, Wagoneers, and V8 Wranglers, it's easy to overlook the little Compass. But the Compass has an all-new interior for 2022, complete with some impressive technology. Cliff takes this 2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk for a spin on and (slightly) off-road to see if it can compete with the Subaru Forester Wilderness, Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road, and Ford Bronco Sport.

Test drived it just for fun but really impressed.. Almost all the Tech inside.. Perpendicular and Horizontal parking sensors , Bird view camera . Reliable engine no turbo and nothing . 177 hp from 2.4 liter so it’s gonna long last.. Extra premium feel interior .. It’s a trail rated car so under skid plates better departure and approaching angles So it’s perfect for someone looking for a CSUV with some small offrod capabilities.. 4low with Rock mode is Really aggressive in wheel breaking it can do something

I’d take this over that. That’s boring the Jeep can off road and has better tech and more gears.

Just moved one on the lot today, it is honestly in that territory in person, plenty peppy and an okay interior for the compass name.

In Europe it’s 48k€ (which is 55k US$) for the Trailhawk at least. Jeeps are expensive. But in the EU it’s a Plug-in Hybrid for that money.

i drive an 03 tj wrangler with a brand new inline 6 4.0 on a 6.5' lift with 35' tires long arm and a lot more lol. so going up hills at 45mph is standard lmao. i just bought this trailhawk for my new daily driver for work. as were a hardcore jeep family. the small engine is perfect for the 112 mile i drive a day for work. i 100% did not want a gas guzzling beast like my wrangler. this the perfect sub for a daily driver car but made by jeep. having the trailhawk trim just helps make it feel a bit more like an actual jeep rather then a soccer mom daily driver lol.

I have a 2017, and what he says about the powertrain is true. It's not exactly refined, but so far it has been pretty bullet-proof with 120k miles on it (although the start/stop system concerns me, and I disable it whenever I remember). I think it also has decent power. I used to think the response issues were related to the 9-speed, however someone recently said it's more likely the throttle mapping, and that a pedal commander will improve the situation significantly. I haven't tested that theory yet, but it makes sense. Fuel economy is mediocre at best. The only time I get decent fuel economy is on long highway trips, but normal mixed driving is on the worse end of the spectrum, so the lack of performance definitely doesn't result in fuel savings. I don't hate it or seriously regret my purchase, but I'd probably avoid it until they made some serious improvements to the transmission/powertrain (like offer the 4xe in North America) AND drop the price to something more competitive. Other issues that would give me pause before ever considering another Stellantis vehicle include: - problematic auto stop/start system with $500 auxillary battery not covered under warranty (extended) - $500 main battery seems excessive and also isn't covered under warranty. - Refilling the AC costs $400 because of a proprietary part or process. That's 4 - 5 times as much as it should cost (I had to refill my AC because I had to replace my rad that sprang a leak after 100k miles, and draining the AC is part of that process). So basically, I think there are things that Jeep/Stellantis made more costly than they needed to be. Some minor concerns I had, which may have been addressed in this refresh include some of the seat plastics cracking under load due to poor materials and design, and plastic in the gear indicator window, and on the drive mode selection knob cracking due to sun exposure.

I'm pretty much ready to buy 2022..approval and payment agreed..just needed signing..but I waited to see more negatives about the trailhawk, because I love the positives. Your comment on the warranty, thats the extended warranty? Not the 36k bumper to bumper?

Powertrain really is the weakness of the Compass. Not sure if buyers in this segment care about that but was let done by how poorly the powertrain performed on an otherwise nice product.

The 2.4 is a Chrysler, not a Fiat engine. The Tigershark, as it is called, is the same engine that was in the PT Cruiser and Dodge Caliber. Honestly I don't understand why they haven't put the 2.0 turbo in this car yet.
@robo08ify
@robo08ify 2 года назад
Actually the engine was developed in a partnership between Fiat and Chrysler engineers and had the magical ability to make oil disappear.

My sister had a brand new 2019 model few years ago with the 2.4L...First issue was at 2000 miles all the oil was gone and they couldnt explain where it went..2 issue 5000 miles new engine had to be put in...3rd issue new engine had no oil after 12,000 miles...I thought it was very nice but too many issues.

$41,000 for that before stealership markup? Someone could buy a loaded out Subaru Crosstrek Limited for $10,000 less!

First fix reliability then raise your price. Shoppers, there are better options around. Maybe some other time; not this year. It looks nice though.

Only makes sense to buy these below invoice + any manufacture incentives. Dump it when the warranty runs out. These never lease well.
@Natethegreat200c

Keep it when the warranty runs out. It’s a very reliable car. It’s a Jeep. And it doesn’t have a turbo or a DDCT trans like Hyundai and kia’s. It will be reliable.

@@Natethegreat200c Coworker bought a Compass, first time it rained the headliner was soaked. Poor windshield seal. Looking at a 2020 Compass Carcomplaints would disagree with you. I've owned my fair share of Chrysler, Dodge, Daimler Dodge and none of these were "reliable". That 2.4L Tigershark is well known to have problems. That Aisin is a good Toyota transmission.
@Natethegreat200c
@Natethegreat200c 2 года назад
@@BTC909 the 2.4 doesn’t have problems way to lie. They HAD oil burning which is fixed and can be fixed for all engines since no internal parts are replaced with the fix. You can look up a car on the car complaints website and even any Toyota will look like a lemon. What’s your point of naming car complaints? Do you hear the name of the website?? what did you think you would find? The lottery? You’re going to find issues. I stick to forums and OWNERS within consumer reviews. That’s it

Materials aren’t better. Comparing top trims of the new one vs my moms 2020 compass the old one has much much less hard plastic. All they did for the new one to fool you all is stitch the dash ... no one noticed all the new plastics vs the old one but hey. If you like it I love it. I was disappointed

Still trying to copy and catch Land Rover. Even the badging on the steering wheel, on the rectangular plate, is a copy of a Land Rover styling cue. Jeep should focus on building Jeeps - affordable off-road vehicles, not upmarket “poor man’s” LR knockoffs. Also, for 40k, you could just buy a base four door Wrangler with options. A better off road vehicle.
