@@gregoryviper Yes, a Bandura (Ukrainian Folk Instrument). If you're interested in more I strongly recommend the National Bandura Capella Of Ukraine, they are absolutely incredible.
Looks like the opening of a film where a bunch of kids bump into him whilst singing and, once his song is finished, he tells them a story and the rest of the movie is a flashback.
I'd imagine it as children stealing his CD running from him, he sings in the background as bombs drop and everyone dies, then some scavengers find his CD at long withered corpses and then story starts - or something like that.
SONG NAME: Moon's in the heavens LYRICS: Moon's in the heavens, sparkle the stars above, Quietly on the sea there floats a boat. In the boat's a maiden, a song she does sing there, A Kozak does hear it - his dearheart dies. The song's beloved, the song is so loved, All about loving, all about love How we have loved, and had broken up, Now come together forever again. My eyes, my eyes, eyes of a maiden, Dark, like the night, bright, like the day! You oh dear eyes have taught me to cry and weep, Where have you learned - to mislead people ?
In current song words are a little different: instead of "Пісня та мила" there is "пісня та гарна" and also instead of "вік вкоротили" there is "приворожили"
To add to the video description above: The title of the song is "Misyatsʹ na nebi, zironʹky syayut" (Місяць на небі, зіроньки сяють), whose title translates as "The Moon is in the Sky, the Stars are Shining." It is not exactly a Cossack song, but a romance from the mid-1800s, with lyrics about a Cossack in love. The performer is Mr. Stepan Shcherbak (Степан Щербак), who has performed for years in tourist areas and churches of Kyiv, Ukraine.
@Simon McCreath At this moment, Kyiv is largely intact and its inhabitants who have not yet fled more or less safe, but many other cities and towns in Ukraine have already been obliterated by Russian bombing and shelling.
@@vasiovasio It is called "bandura" and is the national instrument of Ukraine. If the uploader would add this basic information to the video description above (along with the additional information I supplied in a comment above), everyone would be able to learn more.
@@dbadagna A big, warm thank you and a big upvote for including the information about the song, artist and instrument in the description! Part of the charm of watching videos like this is to learn about folk music and instruments of different countries. Future generations will also appreciate keeping the information as close to the material as possible. Stay safe, everyone.
I met this great man, Stepan, back in 2011 and bought his CD. Now that the war is going in Ukraine, brought me some sadness and nostalgy from those days i was enjoying Kyiv and Ukraine, and things like that would be unimaginable. I wonder where Stepan is right now :(
As a Ukrainian Canadian I pray hes okay as well. My Ukrainian grandpa (Gido) always played Ukrainian folk music before he passed away in 2010. This reminds me of him.
My big belated apology! I was so ignorant that I didn't even know I had mispelled Kyiv. I just corrected Kiev to Kyiv. I've never looked back my uploaded clip so far. Due to long and dark tunnel of pandemic, my biz was totally collapsed with no room for U-tube. Now I just resumed my biz and for the first time began to look back my footprints and found that so many friends shouted at me "Kyiv, not Kiev!!!" I'm so sorry not to even read you. Better late than never, though. I just corrected wrong information. Through you I found that 1. The name of the old Cossack man: Mr Stepan Scherbak 2. The name of the instrument: Ukrainian Bandura 3. The theme of the song: Moon's in the heavens 4. The name of the city: KYIV, not Kiev!!! 5. I even corrected the name of the country Ukraina the way we pronounce and write in Korea, not Ukraine the English way. p.s. I'm not a good U-tuber but I'll try to be a better creator from now on. If you kindly subscribe my channel and like it, I can make it!

Crying for Ukraine and for the beautiful Ukrainian people who are once again suffering under the hands of Russia. My mother played this song often and each time would cry. I asked her one day why this song meant so much to her. She said my Did (grandfather) used to walk in his orchard after supper and sing this song to himself. Now she is with him again and I cry for the both of them and for the sadness in Ukraine. God Bless UKRAINE! Spasaite Ukraine 💙💛🇺🇦🇨🇦
God bless you all in Ukraine 🇺🇦. We support and love you all . We are so proud of you all , the way you are standing up to fight for your home land . 🇺🇦. This gentleman has a fabulous voice and the way he plays the musical instrument is beautiful. Ukraine 🇺🇦, you are such wonderful , peaceful people , so when your country has to fight for your democracy and land , against a Russian dictator, who has a bigger fight on his hands than he thought , you have amazed us all with your bravery. 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

@@SteelM4chine Don't trust media, look for what's actually happening on alternative outlets, Brazilians are appalled by the Russian government's temerary actions against their Ukrainian brothers, sisters, cousins, grandparents and so on, I'm more appalled by Russian soldiers following Putin's orders to lay siege, strike and barrage on their own relatives than by that murderous psychopath himself (Putin), that one we can very obviously except nothing good from, he's an autocrat, a dictator, a mafia boss and a tyrant, but the average Russian soldier is a just a regular teenage guy with a gun, they all got families to think of, I can't understand how could anyone agree to follow orders to murder their own relatives and friends from a close neighbour like Ukraine. As for the Brazilian government, Bolsonaro isn't gonna be messing with Putin, because the Brazilian armed forces are for territory defence only and humanitarian missions, we've always been a pacifist country, only not as much as Switzerland, we got people from everywhere you can imagine inside our borders, that's what makes up Brazil, where you're from isn't counted against you and your heritage is respected and embraced, one more reason not to go to war against anyone, as a Brazilian I hold no national hatred against people from other countries, and one thing is the people, another is the mafia that's ruling them (the government), we're also pretty libertarian as well, we hate the idea of going to something as insane and barbarous as a war, only if we must to defend ourselves and our own country, our cities, families, friends, just like Ukraine is doing, and by the way there's already Brazilians going over there to fight on your side, along with people from all over the world, for the existence of Ukraine as an independent country, so there you go. We're also gonna be happy to welcome Ukrainian and Russian refugees inside our borders, should they make it to here, we don't send fleeing and desperate people back to their tyrannical dictatorships or ruined nations, we're not that kind of people, there's always a place for someone to start over in Brazil and remake their lives, yeah sure it's tough, but so is for everyone else as well, and being a foreigner won't count as much as the person you are as it does in other countries, so you're all welcome! Also, the Brazilian government is actively carrying out a FAB (Brazilian Air Force) operation to rescue both Brazilians and refugees by plane from Kiev to Brasilia (Brazil's capital) and repatriating refugees with Brazilian citizenships, so yeah we're helping in many ways, both fighting as independent volunteers and officially rescuing people to Brazil.
lyrics: There is moon in a sky, Stars are blinking. The boat is floating in a sea quietly. The girl is singing a song in a boat. Cossack listening it and his heart is dying. That song is so nice, That song is so lovely. It's all about love ('kohannya') It's all about love ('lyubov') It tells about we loved each other And about broke up And now we together forever. Oh, eyes, eyes. Oh, girl's eyes. They are dark like a night, And they are clear like a day. You, eyes, shortened my age. Where did you learned to kill people? In Ukraine we can learn the words of this song in a school. I still remember

Imagine the things this man, at his age, has seen in his lifespan in Ukraine. Lets say he is 75, roughly. He would have grown up in the Soviet Union under Stalin, been a boy when Sputnik orbited the globe, experienced those years of Soviet prosperity, then witnessed the economic decline of the USSR first-hand, glasnost and perestroika, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the independence of Ukraine, the battles betwwen Ukrainian democrats and pro-EU movements and corrupt Putin allies in power, the invasions of Russia in Crimea and the Donbass and now the Russia-Ukrainian war. What a life. I wish him well.
Many old people remember the old times and events. But, alas, the elderly are rarely remembered. P.s By the way, can you explain one thing to me? Do you really think that the disagreement of Donbass and Crimea with the military coup in Ukraine is an invasion by Russia? That the referendum on March 16, 2014 is nothing, despite the fact that it was as democratic as possible? That Russia attacked the Donbass? Especially for me, as a refugee from Donbass, whose house was destroyed by the Ukrainian Army, the last moment is interesting.
@@gonorrheadischarges3021 It is a common misperception that the Soviet economy was always falling apart. If you look at the actual history, there's really no doubt whatsoever that the Soviet economy was, in fact, doing quite well right up until the mid-1960s. It was during Bresznev's time in the Kremlin that things started to fall apart. Any historian can tell you this.
